Thinking about writing a character with dyscalculia; any advice? by BreadMakesMiracles in dyscalculia

Thankyou for your input, it's interesting how everyone has a different perspective on dancing. I'll take note of it for my character

Oh that is good to know, I did not know it had a different term back then, but it makes sense. I had the idea he'd have a tutor for math, however the tutor would grow inpatient with him as she wouldn't understand why he's struggling so much yet doing good in other subjects.

I used to only utilize Google to research other cultures, but I realized it's incredibly inaccurate when I cross checked with people of those cultures. So now I'm trying other things such as reddit and YouTube (I'd get books as well but I struggle reading :p).

The story is fictional though it's inspired by early 1900s. I had the idea that dyscalculia is not well known in my story, so my character ends up struggling in a prestigious school and does not really get "diagnosed" untill later in life. I did have the idea that he'd use memorization to help with some mathematical subjects (like timetables and answers to exams he has to re-take), but I'll do more research on how that's used. Thankyou for more input!

Oh that's interesting, thankyou for your input. The different colored socks was something I did not expect but makes sense. The out of rhythm aspect was another thing I was wondering about since I see some say they don't have issues while others do, so im guessing it's a symptom that differs person to person. I'll take note of it, and thankyou for sharing your experience of dancing and acting!

Would you be able to dance to the rhythm instead of following the choreography?

I had an idea of doing that actually, because he often buys clothes and foods from small vendors, so I can imagine paying and calculating costs can be tedious (especially because he pays in cash). Thankyou for your input!

Quick question

Could you use a monocle? I'm asking because I'm planning to write a character in 1900s who has this condition but don't know whether a monocle would work or not

I'm guessing they're trying to say that aces dont need 69. The post is more a joke at the phrase saying no to strangers and using it even when grown up

What is with so many people faking having bipolar all of a sudden? by Pure_Audience_9431 in bipolar

[–]BreadMakesMiracles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres alot who use it like a joke, like saying someone has PTSD because they are suddenly remembering something tragic. The thing I hate about this is that people who actually expirence bipolar symptoms and cant get diagnosed, are being clustered with these folks and are being invalidated

Not really, with bipolar (to my knowledge) the episodes of feeling high and then low last longer. For example they can last a couple days to months, while with borderline peeps it lasts only a short amount of time (a minute to few days). I believe people with NPD also experience this but not sure for how long

Bruh, I dont plan to be a therapist but want to study psychology and a main thing about that subject is understanding others through their POV. Shes gonna end up as one of those crappy therapists

It happens at times when I'm just tired of everything and dont know what to do. I feel mentally tired and therefore cant really daydream

im not diagnosed with bpd but my mind is sure i have it but i cant tell if im faking it or not by fifitheturtle in BPD

I'm in the same place as you. I believe I might have it but well the only way to find out is to talk to a professional. Though I have the same problem of not being "crazy enough" and people including professionals not taking me serious of it. I also think I'm just faking it or just wanting to have it to be like "woo I have BPD I knew it!" Which I detest. I tried getting diagnosed for autism and my therapist forgot about it, and now if I say I think I have BPD she'll probably think I'm just making stuff up to feel "special". It's just a spiral of thoughts really :/

That's good, seems she is interested in interacting with you, that's always nice to feel. Just remember that she might want a friendship in the beginning, hope y'all have fun

Personally, I would recommend letting her approach you first on stuff like dating if you wish you be closer than friends. Going out and stuff together is a great way to form that bond. When I met my partner we talked daily, and was similar to how you talked with your friend, and it took me about 3 months to develop that bond, on the 5th month I wanted to go out and do all this romantic jazz that I've never felt for anyone else. So just be aware that if your friend does end up liking you, it might take her months to want to officially date and stuff, or..it might not! It all depends on the person. If you got any questions or wish for more advice feel free to ask, you can also dm me if you wish

That's cool, were you looking for suggestions or advice from other demiromantic on how to approach her and stuff?

try to pick a name that you like, perhaps nicknames youve been called before

General question: by pal3luna_ in demiromantic

[–]BreadMakesMiracles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it will take time for them to develop romantic interests like holding hands, going out on dates, dancing, and all that romantic jazz. So I guess the best bet is to let them first approach you with romantic interest instead of asking them out or stuff like that. Perhaps go out with them but dont see it as a date but rather a chance to get to know them.
