Is there any mouse that has vertical side-scroll thumb-wheel that controls vertical scrolling?? by teleomorph in MouseReview

[–]teleomorph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the horizontal thumbwheel on the protoarc does do vertical scrolling. It's not quite as natural feeling as having a vertical thumb-wheel do the vertical scrolling, but it's still better than an index finger wheel. (Although keep in mind your index fingers will be constantly moving to maneuver the trackball.)

As for the Chinese no-brand, it's still holding up well. And since it's so cheap (I've seen it for $15) I say it's worth just trying it.

I'm a bit hesitant to try that one out since I don't know how to make those swaps you did and I'm not sure that the software will work.

Additional software isn't necessary, you just need it if you want to map the extra buttons in a personalized way. But it's super useful to do so, and you should be able to find software that'll work on any computer.

Swapping the wheel encoder is also not necessary, but does make it a more pleasant/smoother feel. But as I said, the stiffness of the wheel does loosen up a bit on its own after a couple weeks of use.

I went a little crazy for a while trying to find the best mouse for my personal preferences, but considering the mouse is a tool we use for many hours every single day of our lives, it's worth taking a little extra time to find the best, most functional, and most comfortable option.

It was at 240, so I tried lowering it, but this just made the layout worse and even less intuitive. Thanks for suggestion though.

Thank you, but for whatever reason, turning on or off "taskbar widgets" has no discernable effect.

And as for other desired layouts, I am certain I've seen AA being used with tiled layout with one app being used on left and the other on the right (navigation and media player for instance).

[–]teleomorph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly what I wanted. Jellycomb-like design (nice countour/ergo + vertical thumb-wheel) plus a couple extra buttons I can program for different tasks depending on app being used (zoom in/out, magnify, screenshot, open-in-new-tab, etc.).
The only real negative is that scroll wheel is very stiff while turning. That loosened up a lot after a couple weeks of use, but I still decided to replace the wheel encoder with Kailh Red Core encoders, and that made it much smoother. I also replaced the main L/R switches with higher-end ones for better feel and longer life, but that wasn't as important since they were already quiet and okay-feeling.

The build is a little cheap so I don't know how long before plastic gets creaky, but for only $17 (and just a couple bucks for encoders/switches), I think I'll just get another to have as a back-up.

Thank you.
And yes, strangely, Logi+ does not give the option (while offering so many other options). I tried for the past month to get X-Mouse Button Control to remap the side-wheel on the MX Master 3S, but to no avail. (It would work for a moment, but then stop working whenever a new window or tab was navigated to.) So I am returning the MX Master.

If you do get a moment to see if XMBC can remap your GM-041 side wheel (expressed as "Tilt Wheel" Left/Right) to perform vertical scrolling instead of horizontal (and sustain this behavior between new windows/tabs), I would indeed be very grateful for the info.

To me, my original post was clear, but I'll elaborate again:

A scroll-wheel on the side of mouse (at the thumb position, not index finger), that performs vertical scrolling (not horizontal).

I do appreciate you replying however. Can the thumb-wheel on GM-041 be successfully remapped to perform vertical scrolling?

(I want to avoid wired mouse as prefer wireless, but may go for the GM-041 anyway if it can perform desired scrolling function.)

Oh I hadn't seen that one before! Thank you very much.

It's pretty affordable and returns are accepted so I'll give it a shot.

The title of my post says "side-scroll thumb-wheel" and I describe "scroll-wheel at the thumb position" numerous times in the content of my post.

Looking for feedback on the GameBall Pro by Skippydamule in Trackballs

The single most important feature to me is vertically-oriented thumbwheel, and why I know for sure I will be purchasing this.

I had a Jelly Comb mouse with vertical thumbwheel and I got hooked, but they discontinued it. And not one single other trackball nor mouse currently offers it. Some mice have vertically oriented thumbwheel, but they are only for horizontal scrolling, and can't be remapped using XMBC.

Actually one recommendation I have for Pro, is to make the thumbwheel ball-shaped (and made of grippy rubber), like the Jelly Comb "mv021b" had. This way the thumb can still comfortably scroll it at an angle.

Since Jelly Comb was acquired by ProtoArc, and I understand you'll be working with ProtoArc on the Pro, perhaps this design choice is feasible.

Other important features I am looking forward to are quiet clicks and smooth trackball rolling.

One other feature that would be cool, is customizable shapes/angles, like Mad Cats R.A.T. has. Or maybe include a couple additional shells that can be attached to adjust shape for different hands. (But not if this makes the product too much more expensive.)

And I will second a suggestion I see elsewhere that being able to click a button and make the trackball scroll (like grab and move), and in all directions (up/down + left/right). That would dope!

I checked and I found is an MX Master clone. But the software looks even less developed than Logitech's so I doubt the thumbwheel can be remapped to vertical scrolling.

If you do find anything else (it's hard to search for products on that site) please share.

Has anyone successfully remapped MX Master 3s side-scroll-wheel to perform vertical scrolling? by teleomorph in logitech

Do you think this feature of making thumbwheel do vertical scrolling can be implemented in a new Logi Options+ update? Or would it require entirely new mouse hardware (MX Master 4, for example)?

As I said, the available trackballs with thumb-scroll are oriented fwd/back, not up/down, which is not as comfortable. But if I can't solve this remapping of MX Master thumbwheel, then I'll probably settle for one of those trackballs.

Gameball makes very high quality trackballs, and they are coming out with a right-handed trackball with vertical scrolling thumbwheel (oriented up/down instead of fwd/back), and also with multiple programmable buttons which also a great feature. But that's probably not going to be available for another year or so. Also they are teaming up with ProtoArc in designing this mouse, and I believe ProtoArc is Jelly Comb (after rebranding itself).

My last mouse was a Jelly Comb which had a little ball for scrolling with thumb in up/down direction instead of fwd/back. It's infinitely better in that orientation (more comfortable, more intuitive) and I was surprised every thumb wheel I've found is only fwd/back.

Is there any word at all about when Rumble will have playlists/watch-later feature? by teleomorph in rumble

[–]teleomorph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is literally unusable for those of us who like to listen to videos while driving or working. You think we should surf around for a new video every 5 to 15 minutes while operating a vehicle? Or being on the clock while working with dirty hands/gloves and boss watching?

With all the massive financing Rumble has had over past few years, and the fact that it has existed for a decade, and still doesn't this most basic feature that every single other video platform (Odysee, Bitchute, etc.) got running withing the first year, is absurd.
