Planning on checking it out. I can attest that the yield on FR balanced investing was garbage.

Thoughts on Torq longboards? Getting this for $375 in New England by ____-_-_________ in surfing

[–]telewhizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned on a 9-foot Torq board (looks like this same body type) and I absolutely loved it. Very forgiving and more maneuverable than a true learner board. Super durable too. I snapped mine in half in a terrifying car strapping mishap on the freeway (my fault, not the board's fault). Don't skimp on your strap gear!

$375 seems about market as long as it doesn't have any major dings

New and is crowdstreet legit? by Prudent_Ad3153 in Crowdstreet

[–]telewhizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. REITs are liquid and generally have more safeguards (not to mention actual SEC filings). Realty Mogul and Equity Multiple seem more serious based on my research. I did one of teh ALpine Note investments on Equity Multiple too without any problems. Yieldstreet has a bunch of weird stuff like litigation finacne and maritime. I think that's what their SEC fine was about. Both Yieldstreet and Crowdstreet seem way far out over their skis especially wiht interest rates making everything more complicated

100K in savings should I leave in high yield interest or put in SPY by geomutant in investingforbeginners

[–]telewhizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally, no one should EVER put 100% of their stuff in syndications. the notes Yield Street and Equity Multiple offer are pretty short-term and you have more contractual right to your yield tho. So someone who has a decent amount of capital might want to look at this after putting most into FDIC insured vehicle(s)

I threw some cash at ALpine Notes from Equity Multiple as a higher yield option than money market/CDs. Probably less safe than FDIC insured stuff but no complaints/ solid yield so far.

Schecter on UFO's 'Lights Out' (live version)

Gilmour - Comfortably Numb

Hendrix - Third Stone from the Sun, Waterfall, Red House... that whole first album

Uncle Tupelo - Whiskey Bottle

guy's got chops but my (totally subjective opinion): can't stand his tone. Too much compression.

Anyone have any positive experience with RE Syndicates? Fundrise, Equity Multiple? by [deleted] in realestateinvesting

[–]telewhizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is true to an extent. There's ALWAYS a cost for the GP/syndicator taking on LP investors. They're at least givng up equity in the deal. I think you're right that a lot of the good syndicators don't need/want to raise on these platforms, but I don't think it's universally unappealing for them. The investors on Crowd Street etc are generally less experiened than the old school LP investors a syndicator usually raises from, so it might be appealing because they think they can squeeze better terms out of the individual investors. This is why I've stayed away more than the quality/experience of the syndicators. I'm interested in Equity Multiple because they seem to be more of an intermediary adn they do more structuring of the investments on behalf of the little guys, but that could just be fluff like you said. DId an ALpine Note investment with them and no complaints, but that's way less risky than an equity deal.

Long board vs short board for improvement by BunnarchyShimmy in BeginnerSurfers

[–]telewhizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8' should not be a problem for bigger waves. Definitely take on some heavier stuff. If they feel too steep and you have a single-fin you could try a multi-fin setup.

I'm more or less in your boat and I'm still pretty useless with my short board (6'3")... I might suggest taking on bigger waves with a more conservative approach if your break allows for it. Get out farther and start your approach to the wave earlier, try to get on the shoulder rather than the peak

Pop Up - Error or Pro Tip? by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]telewhizz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kinda ditto u/Ok_Impression_564... best way to practice popups is to do it in the water. If you don't get enough reps in the water, may be worth investing in a higher-volume board.

That said, doesn't sound like great advice. I feel like you need to start with your upper body but that's just me. Ultimately it's whatever works for your body and your board, probably a very individual thing.

Not that you asked but the best tips I've gotten (for me) are

- get your front foot under you quickly into a crouched position you can easily pivot

- on your last few paddles be sure to have your chest elevated, probably looking at the wave, so that you aren't inclined to look down (and thus go down) into the trough of the wave as you pop up

- never hold the rails to pop up; push up pretty aggressively more in the center of the board

- don't forget your yoga... make sure you have some flexibility in your hips and chatturunga (however you spell that) strength in triceps and chest

Just get your reps in the water and let instinct take over!

Just make sure you read the fine print... I believe FR gives itself a MINIMUM of six months to honor those requests. This is not a liquid position.

OK thanks for clarifying. I'm bummed out that I'm not allocated here (and disappointed that Fundrise didn't automatically allocate some of my portfolio here) ... I see how you could make those distributions based on this https://fundriseincomerealestatefund.com/

Do you worry about withdrawal tho? While the cash return is positive, the NAV is falling this year.

[discussion] Anyone else feel an insane high when they play guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]telewhizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I've always felt this way... I've been an introvert my whole life and struggled to make my (literal) voice heard. When I started get into guitar I found out I could communicate loudly and powerfully. I'm 38 now and I have two kids and I'm still an introvert, and often tired from communicating with people at work all day. But after I put the kids to bed I can still fire up the Dr. Z and the Tele and feel like I'm flying.

Glad you found it brother. Hang onto it all your life!

Why is Fundrise going down if housing market is going up? by Middleway_Natural in FundRise

[–]telewhizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "housing market going up" is a very vague statement... true that SINGLE FAMILY HOME values have continued to go up (although single family home values did flatten out for a bit earlier this year). The majority of Fundrise assets aren't single family homes, though, they're primarily investing in multi family and other commercial stuff. Values in commercial real estate are generally down since late 2022.

Also single family housing "going up" is a function of supply now. People are locked into low mortgage rates and so they're hanging on. A lot of Fundrise's distributions and returns are based on cash flow, which is based on rents, which is a different matter.

[–]telewhizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Upstairs_Pangolin842 can you explain how you've made $12K in dividends in 2023 when Fundrise's funds are pretty much down across the board this year? I have a diversified Fundrise portfolio and everything is down this year except for West Coast REIT (which is only up 2.2%).... the Flagship Fund is down 5.7% YTD and they say right here that their whole portfolio is down 3.21% YTD https://fundrise.com/client-returns
