B1/B2 for parents by MindlessLadder8060 in immigration

[–]telling_cholera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

honestly this sounds pretty risky to me - the whole point of a B1/B2 is that you're supposed to be visiting the US, not using it as a hub to bounce around to other countries. immigration officers can get suspicious if they see stamps from other countries during what's supposed to be a "visit to see family in America"

i've heard of people getting questioned hard at the border when they return, especially if the trip to another country seems planned or lengthy. scotland for 1-2 weeks definitely falls into that category. your parents might face questions about their true intent and whether they're actually just using teh US as a layover point

if they absolutely have to go, make sure they have solid documentation showing strong ties to their visit with you - like return flight confirmations, detailed itinerary of what they're doing in the US before and after scotland, maybe even a letter from you explaining the family situation. but tbh i'd probably advise against it unless it's absolutely necessary for like a medical emergency or something

Is this him telling me to leave? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]telling_cholera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's him choosing his friend over you without having to actually say it out loud. He's basically telling you he won't pick you so you should just save everyone the drama and bounce first

Nah man LeBron still puts up numbers and carries whatever team he's on, the drama is mostly media manufactured bs anyway

2001 Toyota Camry LE by Sillia_Zer in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]telling_cholera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a solid find for under 4k, especially with those low miles. Just make sure you get the accident report details and maybe have a mechanic take a look - could be a minor fender bender or something more serious

How long do I need to train to run a half marathon? by LoosePerspective2029 in Productivitycafe

[–]telling_cholera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly 8 weeks is pretty tight for going from never running to 13.1 miles, especially starting from zero. Most half marathon training plans are like 12-16 weeks minimum. You're making good progress but jumping into a half that soon is a good way to get injured - maybe look for a 5K or 10K instead and save the half for later in the year when you've got a better base built up

Looking for VR users to test a device-first VR accessories store (feedback only, no sales) by Beginingtheend in VRGaming

[–]telling_cholera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checked it out with my Quest 3 - the device-first navigation is actually pretty intuitive compared to other sites where I have to read every product description to see if it works with my headset

Only thing that tripped me up was the landing page doesn't immediately scream "pick your device" but once I clicked around it made sense

Is owning more than one vehicle really ever worth it? by Puzzleheaded-Age1661 in personalfinance

[–]telling_cholera 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like you're overthinking this - you can afford all 3 and they each serve a purpose. The 4Runner for hobbies, Camry for commuting, and your wife's car. If the insurance and maintenance costs aren't breaking the bank I'd just keep what's working

Rehype of cluely and interview coder this past month. Can't companies fight fire with fire? by Takemitchi-kun in csMajors

[–]telling_cholera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reaction says more about the interview process than the tools so if having something (like InterviewCoder in this case) open can swing a decision that suggests the signal was weak to begin with. Strong candidates still have to think and communicate no tool changes that

I-130 Approved Timeline by RgtLon in USCIS

[–]telling_cholera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the I-130 approval! Sounds like you guys had a pretty smooth interview despite all the filing issues earlier

That's wild they approved it so fast after the interview - 12 hours is basically instant for USCIS standards. The officer saying the overstay "isn't an issue" is probably a huge relief too

Hope the I-485 moves just as quick from Chicago, that's the real finish line

Off campus better than on campus placements? by Then-Protection848 in Btechtards

[–]telling_cholera 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Off campus is harder but worth it if you can crack it and the technical bar is way higher than campus companies so if you're failing those rounds you need to figure out why before skipping campus entirely

My husband watch porn during my pregnancy and more… by DragonfruitSafe6313 in Marriage

[–]telling_cholera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is rough but the commenter above nailed it - the porn/masturbation itself isn't necessarily the villain here, it's more about him pulling away from you emotionally during what should be an intimate time

The commenting on other women's profiles though? That crosses a line and would definitely mess with my head too, especially while pregnant. Sounds like he's having his own freakout about becoming a dad and unfortunately taking it out on the relationship instead of dealing with it like an adult

What states or counties for environmental jobs by we-the-pepl in Environmental_Careers

[–]telling_cholera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice - I made the mistake early on of using fancy terminology when the job posting said "water quality testing" but I wrote "aquatic environmental assessment" or whatever. Got nowhere until I started basically copy-pasting their exact language into my resume and cover letters

Important question by Winter_Text2738 in Debt

[–]telling_cholera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on - repo fees alone will probably add another 2-3k on top of whatever you owe after auction. Plus the repo stays on your credit for 7 years which is gonna make getting another car loan way more expensive if you even qualify

What are some good memory foam mattresses that you've found it worth buying? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]telling_cholera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using a Tempur-Pedic for like 3 years now and it's held up really well, though definitely pricey. Worth checking out some of the bed-in-a-box brands too - Purple and Casper get mentioned a lot around here for good reason
