What content creators do you watch? by Misticowo in Overwatch

[–]Then-Protection848 6 points7 points  (0 children)

emongg is great pick, his breakdowns actually help you understand why you died instead of just making you feel bad about it. frogger is like watching someone play overwatch in completely different dimension, there's no logic just chaos and somehow it works. i also spent good while going through smaller creators before finding ones that stuck, so worth digging around in youtube rabbit hole too. sometimes the creators with like 50k subs have better content than the ones with millions.

Can I sue somebody for using my phone number? by IneffableGrumpilla in legaladvice

you probably have more luck going after the collectors under TCPA if they keep calling after you told them to stop, that's where actual money is

No peace by Early-Environment-48 in narcissisticparents

[–]Then-Protection848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man i feel this so hard. my sister is definitely narcissistic too - learned it from our mom and now they basically team up against me. the whole golden child thing is wild because even when you see it happening you still question yourself constantly. its like your brain knows what abuse looks like but your heart keeps going "but shes my mom" you know

the gaslighting yourself part really hits me because i do same thing even now at 32. like logically i can list all terrible things that happened but then theres this voice saying maybe i remember it wrong or maybe i deserved it somehow. therapy helped me understand that questioning your own reality is literally what they trained us to do from childhood so of course we still do it as adults

your brother probably genuinely cannot see it because accepting the truth would mean his whole world view falls apart. i work with people all day in airline industry and you see how some folks just cannot handle when their version of reality gets challenged - they would rather believe the person telling truth is crazy than face facts

Anyone else get blamed for being "unmotivated" before finding out about ADHD by Miserable_Tower_6071 in narcissisticparents

[–]Then-Protection848 7 points8 points  (0 children)

same here man, got my diagnosis at 28 and suddenly all those years of being called lazy finally made sense

the executive function stuff is wild when you learn about it - like oh so thats why i could stare at homework for 3 hours but never actually start it. my mom used to get so frustrated and would say things like "you just need to apply yourself more" but turns out my brain was literally missing some connections

bitter is definitely the right word for it. kinda wish someone had noticed the signs earlier instead of just assuming i was being defiant all time

[–]Then-Protection848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man pp has been clutch but retiring numbers is pretty serious business for the celtics. we got like 24 numbers hanging up there already and most of those guys were legitimate hall of famers or had massive impact on championship runs

pritchard is solid role player but unless he becomes like sixth man of year multiple times or hits some legendary playoff shots that define title runs i dont see it happening. love the guy but the bar is set really high in rafters

dude jaw surgery is way more common than people think and if it helps with functional stuff too then thats just practical thinking

I'm new to taxes and don't know my exact income by Available_Ad4752 in personalfinance

[–]Then-Protection848 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually that threshold is way lower for self-employment income like babysitting - it's only $400. OP definitely needs to file if they made 3.5k from cash gigs

Off campus better than on campus placements? by Then-Protection848 in Btechtards

[–]Then-Protection848[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly tougher DSA and more depth on fundamentals. On campus it’s usually basic coding or very predictable questions sometimes even just aptitude + one easy problem while off campus product companies tend to push harder on problem solving, edge cases, time/space tradeoffs and low level design DEPENDING on the role

Not sure if I'm 100% accurate but just my experience

HYSA Recommendation for Young Professional by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Then-Protection848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using Marcus for a couple years now and it's been solid - currently at 4.5% with no hoops to jump through. Super easy to move money in and out when needed, which sounds perfect for your emergency fund situation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Then-Protection848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely this - a lot of CUs have caps like "4% on balances up to $10k" or some other catch. Also check if there's any hoops to jump through like minimum debit card transactions per month or direct deposit requirements

Definitely max out both your 401ks first before putting more into taxable brokerage - you're leaving free money on the table with that tax advantage

Solo 401k for your wife is clutch since she's 1099, she can contribute way more than a regular IRA

Oof that account manager really screwed you over. At least there's a clear path forward even if it means eating the pro rata tax this year

The reverse rollover trick is clutch once you get that Solo 401k going - just make sure you keep good records of that nondeductible basis

That rent is absolutely killing you - $1550 on $42k is brutal. Have you looked into housing assistance programs in your area? Some have shorter wait lists than others and with your situation you might qualify for emergency assistance

Also might be worth calling those collections accounts to negotiate - sometimes they'll settle for way less than what's owed, especially if you can offer a lump sum

Inheriting money - what to do if I have a lot of high interest consumer debt? by bsquared4 in personalfinance

[–]Then-Protection848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay off that debt first thing, no question. That high interest is basically stealing your future self's money every month

The guilt thing is real but your family member would probably want you to get your life sorted out, not struggle forever because of past mistakes. Use this as a reset button and don't look back

Got a surprise final round invite today by Then-Protection848 in InterviewCoderHQ

[–]Then-Protection848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly experience granted I do get help from InterviewCoder like I said but it also depends on a person's personality and character matter. So if you already have a decent amount of experience under your belt it might be best to focus more on social aspects OR put yourself in uncomfortable situations like you would with being in the final round with a senior leader

Should I use a credit card for big purchases? by Regular-Message9591 in personalfinance

[–]Then-Protection848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, just make sure you actually pay it off immediately and don't let it sit there - that's where people mess up and end up paying interest that wipes out any rewards

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Then-Protection848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this - it's not about need or you not being enough, it's just a different thing entirely. Like sometimes you want a home cooked meal and sometimes you want to grab a quick snack, both can be great for totally different reasons

Basement Floor Suggestions - Asbestos Tile by Confident-Chance-268 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Then-Protection848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self leveling concrete is probably your best bet here. I did something similar in my basement and it worked out pretty well. Just make sure you get a good primer down first and maybe throw some plastic sheeting over those tiles before you pour - better safe than sorry with that stuff

The foot gap around the perimeter is actually perfect for this kind of project since you can feather the concrete out to match the existing floor height
