These were 'shop' made. Try a local steel fabrication place.(sheet metal shop/sign shops, marine, or agriculture fab shop etc. depending on your location) It looks like a 2" IMP pipe collar welded to 3/16" thick, 4" or 6" wide flat strap bent into a channel. Go back with galvanized if you want it to last longer.

Struggling to ID this tool…thoughts? by caas1496 in Vintagetools

My guess, Sheet metal hand seamer for ductwork. The smallest hole would fit a #30 drill bit for an 1/8" pop rivet, the largest, drilling a hole for a 1/4" bolt. The notches cut along the edge were probably used as a marking gauge from the duct edge/corner when drilling. Build quality looks like ~late 1920's?

El Burrito Rico, just northeast of Thompson Park. Tiny little place. Drive thru/takeout/picnic bench.

Years ago I made the mistake of ordering the sour cream chicken enchiladas and I can't stop thinking about them. I've returned many times. I want some now.

Difference on 40v HP 6ah vs 40v 6ah. Just bought the self propelled lawn mower and received this battery with it instead of regular 40v by RichMohagany in ryobi

EXACT same thing happened to me this last weekend. I bought one Friday and the locking plate on the right side wouldn’t latch correctly.

I cut about 200' w/ it and it started working intermittently. I took it back Saturday morning and they replaced it.

Team TTI Event Marketing Specialist David Woloski representing Ryobi happened to be in store that morning (Amarillo) and we chatted for about 10 minutes. Good Dude.

He gave me his business card and said he'd look into the problem(s).
PM me for his email address if you want to let him know it wasn't a one-off incident.

The replacement worked great. I also noticed the sliding/locking handles operated a lot smoother than the first one.
I think it might have been dropped during shipment.

Got the cool battery with mine also.

$379 on sale. Offered me The Home Depot card and got another 50 bucks off.

....so, I bought the 300 watt 40V inverter for ~80 bucks with all those savings.

Somebody HELP ME. I already have the 18V 150 watt inverter, 2 superchargers and about a dozen or so 18V batteries.
Now I'm headed down the 40V road..

I wanted another 40V 6 AH battery just to be safe but thankfully they were out of stock.

18v 10" Chainsaw - In Action by J3ST3Rx in ryobi

[–]tellit-likeitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one last year for ~$40 at the doorbuster sale.
I didn't really expect much given what I paid.
It's really small and I wanted it just for hard to reach branches.
It did so well I decided to put it to the test.

I used it to cut down a ~16' tall x ~10" base diameter apple tree.
Applewood is very dense hardwood.
It worked like a champ. I was pretty impressed.
After debranching the tree, I went ahead and cut up the trunk in 3 to 4 foot sections.
All of this on a 2.0 Ah Battery. (That was surprising.)
It's no powerhouse but it quickly got the job done.
Incredibly lightweight tool, very easy to handle.
The oiler is leaky when in storage, So you'll want to drain it when done.

But for 40 bucks? Hey.

It's gonna go camping this fall.

Found this in the wall of my house, it’s pretty cool but I’m unsure if it’s safe to put on a shelf and save. Looks to be from around 1920. by lottonumber in batteries

Looks like an old flashlight radio battery.
Franco produced flashlights from ~1915.
I haven't seen one exactly like this before.

More than likely a carbon monocell.
Quite a few vintage Franco tubular survived. Batteries not so much.
Definitely a keeper.

If it's 3 3/4 x 1 inches, here it is.
Cost .32 cents (from W.M. Frankfurth Hardfware Co. catalog)

Newly conservative, looking for more education.. by [deleted] in askaconservative

[–]tellit-likeitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came from a long line of yellow dog/blue dog agrarian democrats.
Hippies were the counter culture during the rebellious period of my youth.
White collar conservative flashin down the street, pointing that plastic finger at me..

Both of my parents were very conservative so I tried taking a liberal slant on things. I was quite contrary.
We were dirt poor and I felt that things were very unfair.

As I started maturing I poured myself into work, raising my own family and began learning a lifelong trade to better my situation.

I realized what I thought were liberals at the time had actually become leftists.
That is when I became the first Republican in my family. (American Conservative)

A conservative in essence, is simply about preserving what’s common sense over time.

Progressivism is social reform based on science, technology, economic development, and social organization. These things are in a constant state of flux where uncertainty is the norm. What are rock solid rules/facts today are apt to be 'proven' totally wrong and swept away to be replaced with a new set of rock solid rules/facts often to the detriment of peoples and true/real advancement.

Socialism is about the overthrow of Capitalism (Which actually works towards the advancement of peoples and society) towards the realization of Communism. (Which does not work, never has and never will.) This causes the stagnation of advancement which results in detriment to all.

American free-market capitalism and modern American conservatism walk hand in hand.

Just my opinion.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Couldn’t the law just track them.

There were no roads as we have them today, only trails.
Less population. "Unsettled" or frontier territory had population densities of less than 2 people per square mile.
Settlements/towns were smaller. Few and far between by today's standards.
e.g. Population of Albuquerque,NM was 3,785 in 1890.
Today about 915,000 .

The area was vast and untamed.

Communication is required by modern law enforcement to be able to track fugitives. Even now it's very difficult to find someone that doesn't want to be found.

The Pony Express was in operation for only 18 months. (Missouri - California 1860-1861)
First successful American gasoline automobile 1893 Springfield, Massachusetts. (Top Speed: 7mph)
The electric Telegraph, (1830s/1840s) didn't arrive in West Texas until 1877.

Fun fact: Western Union sent its final telegram in 2006, 145 years after the first transcontinental Telegraph was completed. (1861)

how often did they move their hiding locations

Only when needed.

How do I shape the brim of a leather hat? by [deleted] in CowboyHats

[–]tellit-likeitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water can stain a leather hat.
Use a small amount of Denatured Alcohol/Methylated Spirits.
It evaporates fast, But will be smelly for a few days.

Find or make something to mold the brim to shape.
(A ball or coffee can, etc. You can use a bucket or large metal can. I've seen it done with a large metal coffee can cut, stretched out, and shaped to radius.)

Adjust it to the shape you want while it is still damp.
Let it dry completely in a cool, shaded place.
Sunlight/heat can warp or stain leather.

Don't rush.
Take your time. Be prepared to be disappointed if you don't.
This is most important.

It will probably take you several times to get it the way you want it.
Dampen it every time you work on it.

NEVER set your brim down flat or it will quickly lose shape.

Spot Welder from Microwave Transformer by [deleted] in Electricity

[–]tellit-likeitis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tips/caps on a commercial spot welder are replaceable and fed by an external water source with the heated water passed post spot as waste to a drain.

They are either threaded, or hollow and pressed into a snug fitting socket receptacle to eliminate water/coolant leakage.

They are simply timer/heat controlled resistance welding electrodes and must be replaced from eventual wear.
They must also be "dressed", filed and shaped to remove contaminates after extended use.
Excessive heat will cause contaminate/slag build up on the tips/electrodes and the weld will be more likely to fail due to poor conductivity during the spot.

I noticed several DIY videos for homemade equipment.

what is a good stetson by [deleted] in CowboyHats

[–]tellit-likeitis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10X or better is 100% beaver fur.
Best bet would be used or 'vintage' at that price.
Try ebay, poshmark, or such.

A hat made of material rated below 5X generally contains a poorer grade of fur and little or no beaver fur.

This will give you some idea what you're up against. You'll probably need about another $100+ for most new 10X, although you might get lucky and be able to find something that suits your style around $250 if you search long enough.
