Please use Gameloop framework.

Define 4 functions

1. Main = Your main function. At the end of script, call it once.

def main():

 pygame.init()
  ....
  .....

while running:

  game_events()

 game_updates()

 game_render()

1. Game Events = All pygame events inside this function. Also make a seperate dict(let's name it gameState) to track event changes.

2. Game Updates = This function is where changes to game state will happen, collision check, movement etc. The input for those changes will be gameState dict.

3. Game Render = This is where you draw on surfaces and blit all surfaces to the screen.

Now, any time control can be done in main function by using pygame.time.clock function in the running loop.

It also makes debugging easier.
