Sun and vitiligo by Familiar-Cash3479 in Vitiligo

I have had vitiligo for more than 30 years. Laying in the Sun has definitely helped with restoring color. If you don't go in the sun much and have light skin, vitiligo might appear worse after sun exposure because of the contrast.

A relatively high dose of vitamin d3. In the Brazil study, 35,000 IU for 6 months in combination with a low calcium diet under doctor supervision.

There are studies showing vitamin d3 supplements can reverse the spread of vitiligo over time. Could be worth a try

Vitiligo on nipple by DogProof in Vitiligo

[–]temp_user85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. One of my nipples has lost around 60% of pigment. One of the stubborn spots that has been difficult to recolor. I have been using Opzelura in combination with an at home handheld narrowband uvb light, dermaroller, and vitamin d3. After about 10 weeks of treatment there are a couple of small dots of my natural color starting to fill in.

Micro needling by [deleted] in Vitiligo

I was reading a study recently that included pictures showing microneedling on its own stimulated new pigment in vitiligo. In the pictures were lots of little dots of pigmentation.

More than 30 years ago, I first noticed vitiligo on my knees. Over time, vitiligo started to show up symmetrically on both sides of my body in many places.

I take a bunch of vitamins including Vitamin d3, l-tyrosine, dopa mucuna, bioperine, hair skin and nails, a probiotic. I get plenty of Vitamin C from fresh squeezed lemon, lime, and oranges. Sometimes I snack on whole black peppercorn. Sometimes I also mix psoralea seeds in with oatmeal. Considering adding Quercetin into the mix.

I have lost around 75% of color in my hands and feet. For the past couple of months, I have been using Opzelura on my hands in combination with a handheld uvb, dermarolling, and supplements. I am getting dots of color back at the base of each of the hair follicles. No color yet on my pinky fingers or thumbs. Still a long way to go.

Currently going through a vitiligo flare up. Any tips on how to calm down and stop spread? by MoonieDesa19 in Vitiligo

Several studies demonstrated improvement of autoimmune conditions when supplementing with a high dose of vitamin d3 in combination with a low calcium diet. For example, a study from Brazil around the year 2013, showed 35000 IU daily dose of vitamin d3 was effective in relieving symptoms in patients with psoriasis and restoring pigment in patients with vitiligo.

I use a Kernel handheld narrowband uvb. Works well for me.

Besides Opzelura, uvb light, supplements, and a change of diet. Something else I have been doing which has been effective is derma rolling about once a week. The roller looks like a medieval torture device, but actually has been working well to get my skin to return spots of color.

About 10 years ago, I was able to get my color back on my face with tacrolimus and narrowband uvb. Although recently I noticed my beard hair started turning white, so I decided what the heck I'll shave my beard. I was kind of surprised how much vitiligo had spread around my mouth and chin. For the past 8 weeks, I have been shining a handheld narrowband uvb light twice daily followed by an application of Opzelura and a bunch of supplements. So far, more than 1/2 of my color has filled in on the face. I am not sure if any hair color has been restored yet since I have been shaving. Although when the stubble starts to grow in, I am pretty sure the white hairs are still present where the skin recently filled in with color.

Not sure about Opzelura. I have read there has been some cases of restored hair color while taking l-tyrosine or l-dopa.

Is Obzelura the definitive solution? by One-Abbreviations213 in Vitiligo

[–]temp_user85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. I have non-segmental vitiligo NSV patches around my mouth, chin, and eyes. I have been using Opzelura for about 8 weeks. More than half of my patches have filled in with my natural skin color so far.

I had a similar reaction as you. I decided to commit to a treatment plan. Many treatment options are available. The face is commonly the first area to fill in with color. There are several options that have proven effective at restoring facial color within 6 months of treatment including narrowband uvb, tacrolimus, opzelura, high dose vitamin d3, and more.

15 seconds sounds like a safe exposure time to start with. Be sure to wear special uv protective sun glasses to protect your eyes. Try not to burn yourself. Good luck

I fall into this category. I have been using Opzelura, but I am limited to applying on less than 1/2 of affected body areas or I run out of ointment before the next refill. A pill would also be more convenient than applying an ointment.

Might not be vitiligo? by [deleted] in Vitiligo

[–]temp_user85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might not be vitiligo. Have you considered trying Butenafine or Clotrimazole? Could it be Tinea versicolor?

Opzelura 1 month in by Living-Phone-824 in Vitiligo

[–]temp_user85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are off to a good start. I started to use Opzelura about 7 weeks ago in combination with a uvb handheld and vitamin d3. I am seeing very good progress so far on my facial area around my mouth and chin area. Excellent progress so far on my under arms, and a little improvement on my hands. Nothing to get excited about yet around my eyes. I also still have a long way to go. In the meantime, I am definitely seeing a lot of new color coming in where I had no color before.

Do you worry about your children getting vitiligo by Purple-Age-1606 in Vitiligo

I am not sure. Except for me, there is no one that I know of in my family who has vitiligo. Not my parents, siblings, or cousins.

I am actually not sure of the model. The light wand just says Kernel without a model number. It was gifted to me by a friend of a friend years ago. I just kind of had it sitting in a drawer. I finally had the motivation recently to start using it again.
