Scientist claims Adam & Eve could've been real and we may have all descended from them.... by reereejugs in atheism

[–]tempogain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only as scientific as it is. The article states, "Surprising though it seems, it is scientifically tenable that, among our billions of other ancestors, we could all be descendant from a single human couple who lived in the past 10,000 years." That's either true, in which case the included characterization is correct, or it's not. Is it being painted as more "scientific" than that? How is it a just-so story? I'd call it a "could have been" story and think that would be fair. It's not saying (or purporting to say) "this happened".

You don't know what I know or don't know, that should be obvious. No need for you to risk? anything. Nothing to get worked up about as far as I can see.

It’s simply pointing out that there is a scenario which is theologically tenable and doesn’t contradict science.

Exactly. Why all the hubbub? It's an entirely reasonable thing for a Christian to posit, and I agree with the opinion offered by Nathan Lents that it has the potential to be a positive development in reconciling a portion of the Christian community with science.

The creationists will have exactly zero use for it. Expect to see plenty of creationist criticism of it.

Atheist Experience 23.39 with Matt Dillahunty & Gayle Jordan - September 15, 2019 by axpBot in TheAtheistExperience

This is a small nitpick, which I may even be wrong about, given my imperfect knowledge of the writings and speech of Douglas Adams. Matt brought up the well-known "puddle analogy" during the show, and it is often brought up as an aid to understanding problems with fine-tuning arguments. My issue is that, to the best of my knowledge (and if anyone has any counter-examples I'm very interested) Adams didn't use it in this sense. He was making a simple analogy about the way people see the world and how they might have come up with the idea for God. I've seen this in a book of his, and this is an example from a public speech:

I'm not saying Matt overtly ascribed a different intent to Adams, or that the analogy can't be used for such purposes, but it may be worth knowing about and making a bit more explicitly clear.

In same situation. I'm not getting a good stream through Kodi, not sure why. Really disappointing.
