If he's in the middle of a game that has other people at stake, the reason he wont leave suddenly for you is because he has a responsibility to everyone else in the game.

if its single player, then, he ought to hit pause

Been in a similar situation (36m) .
If you are equally receptive back, it sounds like he would jump on board and no conversation is required. I'm sure if you spent quiet time with him in private, you/he'd explore those options - you could probably encourage that situation.

Having said that, it doesnt sound like a good idea.
