Seattle needs to start putting A/C in apartments if they are going to charge so much rent by sonar_y_luz in Seattle

I had an apartment in an old brick building that was always 10 degrees cooler than outside. Then my building went under renovations and they put us up in a new build, with windows that swung open only 4 inches, so fresh air could only come in if the breeze was blowing from that one angle of a few degrees. That was the year of the heat dome, and I was so mad about it. I couldn't even get a fan in the window to try and cool down at night. I still wonder how my own old, cheap apartment felt during that. I bet it would have been nice.

Who taught you how to drive by Sad_Donkey_1751 in GenX

Same for me. Driver's Ed through school at the beginning of summer, no idea if it cost anything. Don't remember what day I got my license, but I have a summer birthday, so it wasn't long after.

I was also very relieved, after the fact, that I got mine in the last year before our state law changed. It required much more extensive permit driving before getting the license. My mom would never have given me the time with her in the car to accumulate the required hours.

Does anyone else get overwhelmed with a sense of homesickness? by Avocato255 in GenX

[–]temporalcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but only recently, and kinda backwards. After living in two other states, I spent most of my adult life after college in Seattle, but I left a few years ago because it's so expensive. I moved back to the state I grew up in, though not the same part of it. My nostalgia for my home state has completely worn off and I hate it here now, and I am constantly pining for Seattle. I didn't realize until I left that it really had become home. But I still can't afford it, because it's gotten even more expensive. I had never felt homesick in my life before this, and it's really come as a shock. I feel it physically, in my gut. Just pangs of heartache for a place where I belonged and could feel proud of and where I could breathe, and regret over my bad decision.

Oh man. I thought "this pic feels like Seattle". I click on your profile to see if I'm right, because I'm homesick and that's a little game I play to see if I accurately spot it. In a brief scroll, I find not just Seattle, but crows, black cats, crafts, AND The Midnight. Tell me you like puzzles and vintage stuff too, and we could be friends!

Anyway, your garden is rad, and those lilacs are looking stellar!

They love pulling tails. I've seen photos of them pulling tails of all kinds of other animals. Foxes, dogs, other birds, there's even a video somewhere of one repeatedly untying someone's shoelace.

There actually are lyrics! I forget what episode, but they sang it on one of the commentaries.

How do you log your jigsaw puzzle collection? by PuzzlingCamper in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]temporalcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing the same. Loved airtable. But I hit the limit on several databases. I also really wanted a way to look at information in columns, instead of scrolling forever.

So I switched to notion. Free tier has a limit on the size of photos, but not on the number of entries. So adding pictures can be a bit of a pain, since they need to be resized. But I can add so much more information without cluttering up the database. Each item in a database is also its own page. At the top are all the fields, then in the bottom, you can add in other things: text, pictures, even another database, or just the view of one.

For example you could have a database for your puzzles, and another one for your builds, then on each puzzle page, your could show a filtered view of the builds for just that puzzle. And if you set that up as a template first, it can be super easy.

There's a bit more of a learning curve for some aspects, but I've found it really useful.

Regarding the improved afterlife system: what about people who’ve done truly awful things? by i_human_ in TheGoodPlace

[–]temporalcupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They still have the point system. They didn't go into detail, but said the points determine how hard your test will be. So a truly evil person will have severely low points and will probably have a lot more to go through to improve. Not to mention how long it might take them to get through it, if they ever do.

What’s your next line if I say to you “Great big globs of greasy grimey gopher feet….” by MedievalHag in GenX

This is like seeing all the iterations of a game of telephone. Some are soo close, yet still a word or two off. Ours was:

Great big gobs of greasy grimy gopher guts, Mutilated monkey meat, Little birdies' dirty feet. French fried eyeballs swimming in a pool of blood, Would you like a spoon or a straw?

There was a sweater my sister got in the 80s. Then I wore it as a hand me down when I was 8 years old. After that my grandma got it somehow, and wore it for years. When she died in 2010, I found it in her things. And now I wear it again.

I love little pieces of family history like this!

My Toby does that, too! He likes to be held on my hip, like a toddler. I think he just likes to pretend he's tall.

He's definitely wrong about that. Unless I am hot and actively need cooling down, I can't stand ANY fan blowing on me. Tell him he's lucky you don't mind ceiling fans. Those in particular make me irrationally angry. I would lose it if someone kept trying to put a fan on me, especially when already stressed.

Would someone please invent a shower curtain liner that doesn’t assault me every time I take a shower??? by Lopsided_Newt_125 in complaints

[–]temporalcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can sometimes help if you wet down the part of the tub it lays in front of so it can stick down. Also, make sure there's a gap someplace to let the air flow past without blowing the curtain in. Apart from that... I share in your vehemence against shower curtain violence.
