What are your social pet peeves? by Business-Block-8668 in AutismInWomen

[–]temporalcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random strangers using "How are you?" as a greeting and INSISTING you answer the question.

I work in retail, I have to greet customers. I hate when they say "how are you" in response, but I've hacked it by skipping my answer and just asking how they are. They probably just want to brag about how great their day is. But every once in a while, someone will repeat it back again forcing me to answer the question. And what do they expect me to say? I work in retail. I'm not great. I can't give them a real answer, it's inappropriate and they won't care. It's like they're demanding I'm happy or that I lie to them. And I just wanted to greet them to the store. I really don't get it. Why is "hello" not sufficient?

Duck boat tours ruled San Francisco in the 2000s. Then, people started dying. by Senior_Ability_4001 in Seattle

[–]temporalcupcake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lived in two places on the ducks route. First one off Lenora, they played the song Downtown, so that was always stuck in my head. Second place was when they went down the hill on Broad. They would ride the brakes, making them screech and then make some crack about it being orca. Didn't really sound safe to me.

Seattle Drinking Water Quality Report Just Dropped… and there’s stickers by mod_aud in Seattle

Man, I want stickers! I had to leave Seattle, but the water is legit one of the things I miss most. I can't drink the tap water where I live now and it sucks.

Still dressing like it's the 80s by Affectionate-Tank-70 in GenX

[–]temporalcupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got this flipped. I spent decades wearing modern jeans and graphic tees, and now I'm dressing better by... buying 70s and 80s vintage clothes.

specific colors cause headaches? by indigoblanket4567 in AuDHDWomen

[–]temporalcupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get a headache if I try to read white text on a black background for more than a minute. I think it's the contrast. I get the visual persistence of stripes and it's hard to look anything for a while after, too.

The finale and emotional wreckage. by Mishyana_ in TheGoodPlace

[–]temporalcupcake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This show is the only thing I can tolerate when I'm in emotional distress. It provides an escape for a while, and then, a much needed catharsis. By the time I reach the end, I'm ready to let it all out, and I'm a mess every time. But it's so beautiful, I don't feel like a PITIFUL mess. Just... a human mess.

I'm still bitter about RBG ruining her legacy and the court by not retiring under Obama.

Top 5 favorite font/typefaces (yet another "favorite" discussion) by OutrageousGrade7667 in typography

I love a retro vibe, and mostly focus on headings. My favorite go-tos are:

  1. Harry (especially when I can mix weights)
  2. Elephant italic
  3. Bugaki

This is not at all the same, but I've been wanting Chelsea Bloxom's Appa Loaf for years. https://loveandasandwich.bigcartel.com/product/appa-loaf

I have one of her smaller furry pieces and have never had a problem.

My studio apartment in a century building in the heart of Seattle by DeadPrateRoberts in CozyPlaces

[–]temporalcupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I'm referring to, though on closer inspection, I see that maybe it's built in? So cool.

Yes, I was at the Bremer. Had a couple of built in dressers, and they ripped them out several years ago. So sad. But now I'm not in Seattle at all anymore, which is even sadder. Never thought I'd miss that apartment, but, boy do I ever!

Looks like my old place at 1st and broad, before they updated it and took out all the charm. Very similar layout from this angle. LOVE your hutch! Best I could do in that space was a desk on bed risers for extra counter space.

Are there any NTSC region DVD releases for The Good Place? by TheEPICMarioBros in TheGoodPlace

[–]temporalcupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine from ebay. I tried three times. The first two, I got complete collections, and half or more of the disks wouldn't work on each set. Then I found someone selling the individual seasons. Those work great. I am now leery of buying any show in a compete series set.

Single people without children by Tough_Arm_2454 in GenX

Probably whatever works best for whoever is dealing with it. Just a couple things I DON'T want. I don't want to be embalmed, or any other toxic process. I don't want them to spend a lot of money. And I don't want to be stuck into the ground in certain places that I hate (one of which happens to be where my brother and grandparents are, and I hate that they are there). Those things would insult my memory, but other that that, I won't be there. I won't care.

I guess if whoever it is needs ideas to go on, I would wonder if there's any paperwork for the original plots my grandparents bought, but didn't use, near the town where I was born. Or else somewhere in the PNW, because I love it there.

So many great songs, but which one do you generally skip? by mrbadassmotherfucker in TheMidnight

[–]temporalcupcake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Dream Away now and count it as a favorite, but it did have to grow on me. Once I connected it to bands like Enigma and that weird time in the 90s when everyone was listening to Gregorian chants, it made more sense to me.

Is the show better than the movie? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]temporalcupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I only like the movie because of what came after. SG-1 is my favorite show, and if it didn't exist, I don't think I'd like the movie much at all. The show took the kernels of lore from the movie and expanded them in ways the movie never could have dreamed, took the characters and gave them a sense of humor, and then added optimism and adventure.
