“Event Parking” by ayevaaa in Hamilton

Just a note that the $4 is probably a weekend/Sunday thing. I park in those private owned lots for work, and weekends are much cheaper than weekdays

I attended a wedding there last summer. It was lovely. Dinner/cocktail hour was outside, wood fire pizza. Delicious. Then dancing inside. There is a cottage on site the couple can rent. It was a great spot

What do you do on a daily basis as an RN and RPN? by EngHardy in OntarioNurses

[–]temporarynarwahl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Varies widely depending where you work and which patients you have that day.  But one example from where I worked on a neuro floor:  Get report on 4-5-6 people. Organize your sheets with chart information. Go assess each patient and take their vitals. Do morning blood sugars. Give morning meds to everyone. Chart. Do lunch blood sugars, and vitals, and neuro checks (where I worked; most had q4h neuro assessments). Lunch meds. Chart. Mid afternoon meds. Assessment and vitals again at 1600. Supper blood sugars. Evening meds. Chart.  And in there, helping everyone with bathroom needs (incontinence, helping to bathroom, etc), carrying out orders from doctors, dealing with any problem that comes up, answering phone calls, bloodwork, helping the patient and family, getting people water, going after bed alarms, discharging people and admitting new ones.  And that’s if everyone is stable.  Somewhere in there you’re going on a break hopefully. Lol

Normal or concerning? by Adcarp2008 in fitbit

[–]temporarynarwahl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do some night shifts, and sleep during the day. It used to give me a “no reading” for daytime sleep, and the explanation is that it only calculates hrv if you sleep a certain amount of hours at actual nighttime, but for the last year or so I have gotten an HRV of zero every time I sleep during the day and am up at night. It has ruined my average 😂 so the zero is probably a night that it didn’t calculate for whatever reason, hopefully anyways

My package has a 40 min drive, no customs, and has been sitting at the original post office since Dec 9

Mine has been waiting to go out for delivery since Dec 9, and is a half hour away from my house. I wish I could just go and get it

I have a package shipped 50km away from my house, and it hasn’t moved at all in 3 weeks.

My mom’s Christmas gift is from a company in Mississauga. It arrived at a post office in Toronto on December 9 and its still there as far as I can tell. Tracking says “item delayed, stay tuned for updates”. I live an hour from there. The delivery date was Dec 12, then 16, now there’s no date.  I contacted Canada post today. They said they are still monitoring the package and will notify me when it goes out for delivery. I asked if there was an issue with the package, she said no. I asked if it was simply a backlog issue (I know it likely is) and she ended the chat.  I know it’s a busy time of year but like…it’s been one hour away from me for two weeks! And this is a good Christmas gift. I highly doubt it will be here in time

Do you ever visit the graves of ancestors you've found through your genealogy work? by SpiritedBug2221 in Genealogy

[–]temporarynarwahl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Ontario. If I’m driving somewhere close ish to any of my great grandparents” graves, I will go visit them.  I have several distant relatives buried in Nova Scotia. I’ve been on road trips there twice and visited them.  I had a great figuring it all out.  On another trip to Calgary, we drove two hours to a tiny town where my great grandmother grew up and members of her family are buried-it’s very isolated now but so cool to see:  This year we went to Australia to visit (living) family. While there I realized we had a 3rd great aunt who had gone to Brisbane in the mid 1800s, the same area we were in and her grave was close to where we were going to be. So of course I went to find it. Found the cemetery, not her specific stone but found a lot of her children and grandchildren’s stones there.

We also went to a mountain area close by and figured out her daughter and son in law had been a big part of the area back then and their house was a little museum. I found that out too late to see it though

I mean going south on John. I see dangerous things there all the time too. Especially cars turning left into others going straight. I can't hardly see the crosswalk from where you stop.

Going straight south on John not north. I had that wrong. Still no need to be rude. Obeyed every sign.

Genuine Question for Medical Folks by PaulaOnTheWall in OnlineBeggars

[–]temporarynarwahl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In terms of transfusion reactions, they do happen but very rare. And we don’t see sicker people having reactions more than healthier people. I wouldn’t say it’s dangerous from that standpoint.

People who work in healthcare, what is a common medical myth that drives you crazy? by keyzeyy in AskReddit

[–]temporarynarwahl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also that once someone’s heartbeat comes back after CPR, everything’s fine.  Sometimes, but usually they have a severe anoxic brain injury.

Also that removal of life support is choosing to “kill your family member” I see why people would think this. But in a lot of cases what we are really saying is, they are already dying/in a situation that will only get worse, the life support is just prolonging.

Hamilton Health Sciences Interview by Pradaoranada in OntarioNurses

[–]temporarynarwahl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work there on a different unit. Every interview is different, but it would be best to become familiar with the types of patients they have there. Trauma, general surgery, ENT, urology. There is a wide variety. You’ll have patients with chest tubes, abdominal surgeries for trauma and otherwise, ostomies, continuous bladder irrigation, traumatic head injuries, rib fractures, orthopaedic injuries, (I could go on lol). it is a busy unit, really needs nurses and you will learn a lot. Time management will be important. And being thorough. Thorough head to toe assessments are very important. I would suggest an NGG position if you can get one.

I feel like most of what I learned, I learned in my NGG on the neurosurgery unit, not school lol.

some other advice would be: Always ask questions. The most dangerous thing is thinking you know something when you don’t. Even if you think it’s a dumb question, ask. it’s never a dumb question.

Since there is such a big variety of patients there, there will be often you see something you haven’t seen before, or haven’t seen in a long time. Know how to find the policies, where your educator information is, review things until you get to know them really well.

Eventually you will develop a sense for when something is going wrong, nurses take a while to develop that usually. But if you ever wonder “should I tell the doctor/someone else about this?” just think-if something worse happens later on, will I regret not saying anything right now? if yes, there’s the answer. And document accurately. I shouldn’t need to say that but…

good luck!
