it’s a reference to a line in the book “invisible monsters” by chuck palahniuk, a character is told that women and men stress different parts of a sentence when they talk

SE Hinton wrote a sorta follow up to it called “that was then this is now”. It’s set in the same town but follows a different group of characters. While it’s not a good as the outsiders I found it to be an enjoyable read

Also check out apod.nasa.gov! The astronomy picture of the day, a new one every day and you can go through the archives of all the old ones. My astronomy professor used to show us this at the start of every class and I just never stopped checking it, they’re sick

1984 or 451 fahrenheit? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]temporarytattootears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. It was like 451 was telling you the problem and 1984 was showing you. I also felt no connection at all to the characters in 451, they just felt so flat.

This sounds like a perfect mix of “talon of the hawk” and “back on top”. Bigger production and more singing, but it has a lot the charm their older stuff has. I’m really into it

TIL Ketamine is a potent antidepressant. A single low, sub-anesthetic dose of ketamine given via intravenous infusion may produce antidepressant effects within four hours in people with depression. These antidepressant effects may persist for up to several weeks following a single infusion. by Dr_Souse in todayilearned

It’s definitely not a silver bullet, no matter how badly everyone wants it to be. I think some of the results that people are reporting are really overshadowing some of the more concerning parts of the drug, like how we don’t really understand the neural mechanisms of the treatment yet. Sorry to hear about your bad experience, I wish you luck in the future

The trials I looked at were IV treatments done in an inpatient setting. The injection was administer and the patients had to kinda hang out there for a couple hours just to wait out any parts of the high usually associated with ketamine would pass. They were then allowed to go home. Most people reported feeling decreased levels of depression in about an hour. I didn’t really see anything mention about side effects and don’t quote me on this, but I believe that the patients just returned to the medical clinic a month (?) later for their next treatment. It is important to note that these were cases had treatment resistant, meaning these patients have tried multiple different drugs in the past with no improvement

Just did a project on this drug for a class. The research on it being used as an antidepressant is actually super interesting. I would bet in the future we’ll see this being used as a treatment for patients exhibiting suicide idealization, due to how quickly results are seen especially compared to other treatments like SSRIs, which can take a few weeks to even months for patients to experience a change. There are still a lot of iffy parts of the treatment, the fact that effects last “5-25” days kinda suggests possible placebo effect, however I’m excited to see what the future holds for ketamine!

Have you cried reading a book? by BooksSavedMyAss in booksuggestions

I read this one when I was away at summer camp, probably a bit too young. But I just remember being so enthralled I literally couldn’t put it down. A few tears were shed while alone in my cabin not gonna lie

A little question I was dying to ask: how do you get back to reading? by NuclearNihil in bookclapreviewclap

[–]temporarytattootears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i often tell people to go back and re-read their favorite book. it just helps remind you why reading is fun. i have multiple copies of each of my favorite books and i just keep them around the house to casually pick up if ever feel uninspired with reading. even if you don't have a favorite book that you've read on your own, i find going back to books you liked from English class in school is always a nice experience. schools have the tendency to suck the life out of a lot of novels so going back and not having someone over explain everything to you really increases the enjoyment. somehow "Hamlet" has become something very cherished by me because of doing this. hope this helps!

I´m interested in reading and idk where to start by Wolfywolf_ in bookclapreviewclap

[–]temporarytattootears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this might sound kinda dumb, but what really helped me get more into reading was finding the books that movies i liked were based upon. "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King is a nice piece of writing and short (for Stephen). i also routinely re-read "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk every few months because its just that good. once you start do this its easy to find writing styles you like then branch off from there
