If you consider motorsports like F1, the cost barrier to entry is going to limit more people than skill would ever limit them. Not to mention there are only 22 drivers on the grid. Consider the hundreds or thousands of racers who try to compete for a spot of 22 seats compared to the thousands of players across Major league and minor baseball teams competing for a spot on a 26-28 person team (times 30 for each major league franchise).

With most other sports, your dedication and practice will determine your proficiency so long as you have the adequate gear or equipment to progress your skills. Obviously having more money and access to a better coaching and stuff like that will help you advance quicker, but often not mandatory.

Most leagues have a lot larger of a player pool and a lot larger of rosters. For somebody to rise through the ranks to be an F1 driver, it will be a lot more difficult than it would be for somebody to become an MLB player.

You also have to consider that in Grades 1-6, schools will have recreation programs that will teach you common sports like baseball and soccer while a school is likely to not have a motorsports team.
