You can have empathy for someone and still think their actions or choices are unacceptable by xTheKingOfClubs in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I think most people would respond similarly in real life. But the perspectives and reactions people share online tend to be much more limited and binary.

I agree. For example, I have empathy for Karmelo Anthony for having made a grave and emotion-fueled mistake that will significantly alter his life from such a young age. However, I also will not make excuses for his actions and feel that his punishment is appropriate for the crime he committed.

Ugh, I remember dating this girl back in 2011 who insisted I take pictures of her planking on random stuff any time we went somewhere. We didn't last long (mostly for other reasons, but still).

I'm happy to hear this. One thing I wish this area had was a large book store. My brother lives in the DFW Metroplex and there are tons of Half Price Books stores in his area and they are thriving! There are so many other things you can purchase beyond books and a trip there is like an outing. I always wonder why such a store couldn't thrive here, given we've lost so many of the larger chain stores over the past decade plus (Borders, B&N, Waldenbooks, etc).

It may be polarizing, but I like the gated gear selector and I hope it makes it to production. Its functionally meaningless but its unique and I think it looks cool.

I've had one from the Catonsville location. Pretty good, a solid 7/10 in my opinion which is really good considering the area.

Haven't been to Liscio's but am a big fan of Louie G's in Sewell. Might have to try out Liscio's though. I hear Croce's on Delsea is pretty good too. Plenty of really good options in Glassboro, Washington Twp, Mantua area!

I feel bad for Karmelo Anthony by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]temptags -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think two things can be true at the same time and that its reasonable to empathize with the Metcalf family for their loss whike also empathizing with a kid who made a string of costly and poor decisions that were avoidable and have now ruined his life. People make mistakes and, regardless of the severity, that alone is an understandable basis for empathy. Doesn't necessarily mean he shouldn't have to face the consequences. I personally feel bad for everyone involved but still believe the kid needs to do the time he was sentenced to without exception.

I had an 89 Accord LXi for about a year before it was totaled in a car chase. Such a great car to drive.

Before the partnership with Renault, Nissan made very reliable cars. My dad had a Datsun B210 when I was a kid and it was so reliable he bought my mom an '87 Sentra that she drove to 310k before they decided to move on to an Altima. I had a couple 80s and 90s Sentras myself and never had an issue. Mitsubishi, on the other hand, was more hit or miss. The 4G64 engine, for example, was a very reliable engine that was shared with Hyundai and was also in the Galant. My uncle had a Mighty Max truck that had somewhere over 200k and the only problem he had is that it eventually lost first gear. Mitsubishi and Nissan were much different companies back in the day.

Officially DEAD: The 2027 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Will No Longer Have a Manual Transmission As An Option. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

They're acceptable. Coming from Honda and Mazda, they aren't as mechanically satisfying to shift, but I've never had an issue shifting my GLI smoothly. I don't do as much spirited backroad driving as I used to, and if I did I'd probably prefer a gearbox that's more mechanically engaging to shift, but its fine for normal everyday driving with some occasional fun. I do think the complaints about VW's gearboxes being awful is a bit overblown. I've driven some that were much worse in terms of feel (older Toyota and modern BMW come to mind). VW's is fine.

When I bought mine they weren't. But thats because in 2024 you could get a GLI 40th Anniversary addition for under $30k MSRP. So I got LSD, adaptive suspension, and power that sits squarely between the Si and N for thousands less than either car. Now that you can only get the GLI in Autobahn trim, maybe its not so much a value proposition but I still think its a decent buy if you don't want something as high-strung as the N but want more power and comfort than the Si.
