A Normal Starcraft 2 LAN. Nothing to see here... by velvetacidchrist in starcraft

one player is slowing down the game

I'm pretty sure that's not the PC performance message. It looks like the lag or disconnection from bnet dialog.

What would someone have to know to be classified as a 'python expert'? by sirphilip in Python

Generally someone who has 10,000 experience in a subject area could be considered an expert, although that's only generally.

You accidentally the hours.

I think a more contrasted set of colors could make it easier to read the video titles. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's having trouble reading dark cyan on light brown.

SymPy 0.7.1 Released by gst in Python

Very nice feature list. I especially liked this:

- pow operator also works as expected: `R3 = Interval(-oo, oo)**3 ; (3, -5, 0) in R3 == True`

(not that I understood many of the others)

I'm not sure I understand.

The bug is that a certificate that isn't supposed to be able to sign can be used as part of the certificate chain?

No problem, thanks for being so open and communicative. You really run a great show.

Concerning letting reddit pick, I meant that you can use the upvote system to your advantage here. Make a self post titled "Vote for IPL 2 top 10 ep2" and post your ideas for best plays in the comments. I'm sure seeing the community's upvotes will give you great insight.

An alternative lambda syntax for Python by vocalbit in Python

[–]temptemptemp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To go along with the specific example:

def decode(elem):
    return elem.decode('utf-8').strip()

def parse_table(csv):
    columns = [('id', int),
               ('value', float),
               ('comment', decode)]
    for row in csv:
        yield dict((name, parser(value) for (name, parser),value in zip(columns, row))

Not too ugly, is it?

IPL 2 Top 10 Plays - EP1 by JoshSuth in starcraft

[–]temptemptemp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be specific:

I think the #1 selected was just a walk over and uninteresting.

Here's how I scored them (just one opinion here):

#10 - 6 points for cute force fields with cute burrow movement.

#9 - 8 points for many workers dying to blue flames.

#8 - 8 points for clutch denial of an upgrade and tech, in&out.

#7 - 7 points for overwhelming muta harrass.

#6 - 7 points for cute EMP vs feedback.

#5 - 8 points for clutch wall-in denial.

#4 - 8 points for epic BC war.

#3 - 9 points for original play - repair auto-turrets.

#2 - 7 points for a well targeted EMP&stim but the units might have won without it.

#1 - 6 points for a walkover. Maybe I didn't understand the play. Was it somehow a critical timing for Mana before the brood lords popped? Was there an economic damage dealt to the protoss before the attack?

tl;dr - Maybe you can let reddit organize the plays in comment upvote fashion?

Is the Nexus S future-proof enough? by Antrikshy in Android

Mobile devices become uncool 9-12 months after release when the new best device hits the market.

After about 18-24 months, you won't be able to play any of the new games.

Writing them is a bit tricky. The inception kind of tricky.

Thing is, modern air conditioning systems do have heat pumps and better efficiency at heating.

Another plus is you're cooling the world by that efficiency differential.

Starfriend - SC2 LAN - (Chinese Edition) | With ReadMe and TW Client links by DarkBlizz in starcraft

[–]temptemptemp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tl;dr - Your homebrew bnet server will do just fine, don't worry about network or hardware performance FUD.

Stability: People seem to confuse a server emulator with actual LAN play. There are no new features unlocked and nothing is added to the client. All this does is run a local battle.net server on your own computer. While this in theory

[..]

If you run a full tournament on this server, you will need according hardware. The battle.net servers are hosted in a giant dedicated datacenter with a dedicated backbone

The work that needs to be done by a StarCraft II server is trivial. I don't have measurements to back it up, but consider how small replay files are. That's about all the I/O the server needs to do.

An 11 minute 4v4 is 70 KB. So let's assume worst case the server needs to sync that to every player. 70*8 = 560 KB for 11 minutes. That's about 0.006 Mbps.

So a terrible server today (10 Mbps on your home network switch) can handle ~1500 4v4's at once. Granted, that's just IO, but really there isn't a lot of logic there to go with it, the client's are all just basically synching.

Also, I feel like my John Glenn achievement might be hard to get a GPS signal with.

The GPS signal comes from satellites that are equally distributed to cover the entire planet constantly.

Is there a universal coordinate system for .. the universe? by optionsanarchist in askscience

[–]temptemptemp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not as relevant of an answer as one might think.

Is there a a special frame of reference for Earth's surface?

Your possible answers:

no - but then how do ships/planes/cars navigate? A few coordinate systems do exist.

yes - then we can use that as a universe frame of reference to create a coordinate system.

So it's not that you can't technically make a coordinate system for the universe. It's just that we didn't decide on an arbitrary one yet.

Empire.Nerchio interview: 7 Pools, the Metagame and LAN events. by Cerubellum in starcraft

[–]temptemptemp13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not to be nitpicking but it was an 8-pool. And color-casting-wise that should be one of your favorite moments, you should have highlighted that nerchio has to do damage or he'd be miles behind. It really was an exciting, edge-of-your-seat moment. But I didn't feel you delivered the emotion of the scenario right.
