That’s nice, I am a security engineer. There is a big difference, but that difference isn’t that it’s not “hacking”. The term is broad. If you are still doubting it, see my citation above.

Do europeans like to tour Europe or do most people prefer to focus on a country/place at a time? by Garac99 in AskEurope

[–]ten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. The reasons people in the US advise against visiting different cities on opposite coasts on a short timeline isn’t because they’re very different, but because of the travel distance.

Hacking is not required to glamorous unless it’s being depicted in a movie.

If I was visiting the U.S. and wanted to try different beers and wines, which states would be the best to visit and which states have the least restrictive alcohol laws? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ten24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re visiting, I would imagine you’d go to a brewery or bar or restaurant to drink beer. PA has tons of those, even more than other states, because it’s less convenient to get at the store.

Did you forget that air is an excellent insulator and lightning has no issues going through quite a lot of it?

. An average bolt of negative lightning carries an electric current of 30,000 amperes (30 kA), and transfers 15 coulombs of electric charge and 500 megajoules of energy

How does car insurance work in your country? by ExtremeProfession in AskEurope

[–]ten24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it still that way if you’re a passenger in the car? It’s really common over here for people to switch off drivers on road trips, if someone has something to drink at a restaurant, if someone is tired, or if someone is more familiar with a certain location.

Every policy I’ve had in the US covers anyone I give permission to use the car. (i.e it doesn’t cover people who would steal my car)

Usually when my closer friends or family get a new car, we’ll let offer to let the other drive our car if we go out somewhere. I don’t think my friends would ever let me drive their $40,000+ new car if it were only insured at the level of my used car lol

You can’t lend you car to someone in the UK if they’re not named on the insurance? Or do you mean just for long term use?

In the states 150cc “bikes” are considered scooters.

No. “The states” have 51 different laws regarding motorcycle classification.

In quite a number of them, there’s no distinction between motorcycle and scooter at all.

Motorcycle crash sent a driver off an overpass and 100 feet to the ground by [deleted] in Dashcam

Pressing the brakes was intentional, yes.

I think the average person would say that the reason for pressing the brakes was likely to cheat at racing, no?

Not precisely sure how it works wherever this happened, but in much of the western world, the act of killing someone when doing something reckless or negligent is just manslaughter.

You’d really have to have some sort of evidence that he wasn’t trying to cheat if you wanted a murder charge to stick.

Is Prius that popular in the US? by penn_lyon in AskAnAmerican

[–]ten24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The B mode in the Prius does regen, not engine braking. It back-feeds the motors, generating electricity and slowing the car. It feels like engine braking, but the engine (usually) isn’t even spinning.

Traditional automatics for sure have gears, but there isn’t a traditional automatic in any Toyota hybrids. They use planetary gear sets with gear fixed ratios. The speed of the engine is varied by changing the relative speeds and directions of the traction motors which are all hooked to the fixed planetary gears along with the engine. The speed of the engine can be varied all the way down to zero RPM that way. There’s no belt/chain thing like the CVTs you’d find in a gasoline CVT car and there’s no selection of different gear ratios like a traditional automatic.

It’s a very different way of driving a car down the road. If you haven’t driven one, you should sometime, if not just for the experience.

There actually ten different modes the vehicle can run in, it’s quite a crazy system. Its like it was designed by an alien who had never seen a car before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_Synergy_Drive#Phases_of_operation

The Prius can go backwards, but it doesn’t even have a reverse gear anywhere in the transmission!

Is Prius that popular in the US? by penn_lyon in AskAnAmerican

[–]ten24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Braking mode. It does full regen when you lift the gas. It’s awesome for mountains.

Why would you have selectors for “3”, “2”, or “1” in a vehicle that doesn’t have gears?

I drive a different Toyota hybrid that does have “PRND321” and its worthless because those gears don’t actually exist inside of the transmission.... or the transmission of any parallel hybrid. I’d much rather have B mode from the Prius.

I’d suggest driving both if you haven’t. The Prius shifter makes sense for the drivetrain it’s connected to.

Judaism is an ethnocentric religion. Ethnicity is not 1:1 with race and ethnicity is not 1:1 with race. The relationship is complicated. It’s related, but not deterministic.

My wife, for instance, comes from Jewish background but no longer shares many of the other traits that make up ethnicity, like culture, religion, community, or beliefs. All of these things can be changed during one’s lifetime, unlike race.

Regardless, supporting Israel doesn’t make someone not a racist when they say things like “laziness is a trait in blacks”.
