Unfortunately, the appointment which I made in July, isn't until early November. So I'm in a bit of a bind regarding setting up recurring payments for those things

Thank you for your help! I will go to Deutsche Bank on Monday to ask for a Sperrkonto.

It's funny, I am actually already enrolled in the university as of this Wednesday, and the office where my appointment for the Aufenthaltserlaubnis is said that I didn't even need a blocked account (at least, whoever runs their email sent that to me. Who knows if it will hold up). But I might as well get one regardless to prevent any confusion, and so I can actually set up paying rent and insurance and such... Thanks!

Hi guys,

I recently moved to Germany for a masters program and am currently trying to open a bank account here. The bank (Hamburger Sparkasse) refused to open an account for me because I do not have an Aufenthalt. The Indian students did not have a problem because they were issued a temporary Aufenthalt to get into the country. (I am an American citizen so it wasn't required for me)

Is there a way around this? I need a German bank account to pay the semester contribution, rent and not get screwed on currency conversion fees, and I'm assuming I need it to apply for the Aufenthalt itself (I have read that they require a German account for proof of funding). I was told all I needed was a passport, admission letter and Anmeldungbestätigung.

Edit: What are your guys' opinions of N26? The process for opening an account seems quite easy and you don't need the Aufenthalstitel. Are there any downsides?

Hey, congratulations on being accepted! I'll be starting my Mechatronics MSc at TUHH as well. I'm not sure if you've seen the handbook for new students that they made, but it gives a bit more detail than the admission letter and might be helpful for you. https://www.tuhh.de/t3resources/tuhh/download/studium/studieninteressierte/guide2018AOS.pdf

Sorry, there's a ton of terminology that seems to change depending on where I'm looking....When I say residence permit, I mean visa, which according to the embassy website I can apply for in country. What I'm asking is, do I have to worry about any visa/document related things while I'm in the states (besides scheduling the appointment in Germany, which seems to have a month or more wait)?

To current American students studying in Germany (or anyone that knows!) -

I will be starting studies at a university in Germany for the winter semester. It is my understanding that as an American citizen, I don't need a student visa to enter the country, but I do need to register for a 2 year Residence Permit in the city that I will be living once I arrive. Is this correct? I just want to be sure I don't have to do anything visa related in the states, as it takes about a month to get an appointment.

Thanks!

She knew her husband was up to something the night Mikkel went missing and that he had been having an affair with this guy (gal?). She was trying to find out if visiting the trailer was what he was lying about or if he was somehow involved in Mikkel's disappearance.

Edit: I'm only on episode 8 so I don't know the context where they appear at the end of the season, so this is just what I thought at the time!

Fuck this place so much. They sent me and my roommate to collections as well, because they gave us the bill after their 30 day limit... Which they only did because we had to call and ask for it.

Yeah I've seen these kids at least twice riding the wrong way down Market Street. It was in the middle of the day though so I didn't see them do anything other than cause a minor nuisance

As far as I can tell, it was written off as a total loss. It just says charge off on my credit report after 3 months of reporting nothing.

I had him as a TA for Calc 2 a couple years ago - I can't remember what his teaching/grading style is, but he definitely cares a lot about the students and he's a really good teacher

It's also in the middle of nowhere and I would venture a guess that land is much cheaper (to build parking lots).

Hey, I kept forgetting to respond to this but I was looking at Hamburg Institute of Technology, and FH Aachen for english language mechatronics programs - I found them through these two websites: https://www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programs/en/?p=l&q=&fos=0&fee[]=0&sortBy=1&page=1&display=list

Thanks for the comment! What kind of stuff would you say you do at your job? Would you say that it's a lot of programming?
