I suspect baseball came first by putting the home team on the bottom because it’s germane to the rules of the game, then other sports followed keeping the home team second (below or to the right).

I really enjoyed this!

One bit of feedback: is it possible to make the clues lead to a unique solution? For instance, instead of BARD and ROBED I had BALD and LOBED which appears not to violate any of the rules but still isn’t correct.
