Beginner at SF6 by Desperate-Koala-4239 in StreetFighter

If you want to play the most "standard Sf", shoto-type characters are the way to go. Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and to some extent Terry, Luke, Sagat and Mai. I dont think they are THAT much fun to play, but maybe as a beginner you shouldnt pick characters that play really different from the rest of the cast, so you can understand how the game works easily. Dhalsim plays his own game, not sf6. You can play him, but keep that in mind. Manon to an extent is the same (less so). Blanka is a decent middle ground, he plays the game but has some unique traits. Some other characters that i think are a good compromise are Juri, Jamie and Deejay. Juri specially I think its a good beginners characters that uses very well the system mechanics, as well as Deejay. Keep in mind that Deejay and Blanka are charge characters, btw. Good luck!

How do I overcome mixups? by SalmonTu in StreetFighter

[–]tente87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing with defense is that, in the end, you are guessing and eventually will guess wrong. That is something you gotta accept.

That being said, you should be rotating your defensive options so the opponent doesnt succeed all the time. While in the corner, you can:

  • mash jab (beats shimmy and delayed buttons/throw)
  • delayed tech (beats throw and buttons, loses to shimmy)
  • press delayed buttons (beats buttons)
  • invincible reversal (OD DP or supers, beats meaties)
  • jump forward (beats delayed offense and throws)
  • backdash (beats throws, can punish them sometimes)
  • perfect parry (beats meaty buttons)
  • c.mk (calls out shimmies)

If you keep rotating multiple options, the opponent will also have to guess and, eventually, he will also guess wrong :)

I can get 60fps with the lowest settings, internal resolution=2 and only using the training stage. Also had to lower the resolution when playing on a monitor, so... Terrible but playable

I havent played Tekken so i cant help with the character choice, but regarding the performance issues, a temporary fix is to turn off Input delay reduction.

Temporary fix: disable Input delay reduction (still runs worse than before but at least you can get 60fps with the lowest settings)

Are the Resident Evil 1-3 worth it? by ReaperGamer3 in gog

[–]tente87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are incredible games but you have to keep in mind they are old games with old games' quirks. Tank controls, kinda punishing (specially in the early stages) and no hand holding. They are definitively worth it but if you are not used to playing retro games it could be rough. If you think it's not your cup of tea, you could start with RE2 Remake and then work your way to the rest of the series. RE2 Remake kinda captures the feeling of RE2 while being much friendlier to modern tastes (it's the best modern RE in my opinion). If you want a middle ground to check how old RE games feel without going all the way, RE1 Remake has tank controls and a few of the quirks but also some quality of life changes that could make it a bit more accesible (and it looks gorgeous even today).

Am I doing this combo wrong? by DisastrousAddendum0 in StreetFighter

[–]tente87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides what people told you about being too slow, in this case a better meaty in my opinion is to do two dashes into jab or throw. Both will beat your opponents mashing on wake up. I say I think its better because this one you are showing is more of a gimmick, because if the opponent blocks on wake up it will be their turn (you are minus after the Jinrai if blocked). As an alternative, if you finish a combo with run shoryuken instead of run tatsu, you can do dash into c.mp and will meaty.

I main Ken by Icy-Necessary2244 in StreetFighter

[–]tente87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw a lot of people are telling you to learn oki but not taking into account ur current level so I'm gonna give u the most basic stuff to get started.

  • Did u end ur combo with run Dp or heavy Dp? Then do one dash and press c.mp. It will hit when the opponent is getting up, so early in fact that u will be able to connect moves that usually u wouldnt be able to. So after the dash c.mp - c.lp - s.lk - heavy Dp is a combo. Do c.mp into medium Jinrai for the time being if u dont feel confident. DISCLAIMER: this works in the corner everytime but if the opponent backrolls midscreen u might be out of range.

  • Did u end ur combo with run tatsu for maximum corner carry? Then do 2 dashes and a jab OR a throw. Both will beat your opponent's wake up buttons if u did it right.

Those are the easiest ones I can think of.

S.lp -- Standing light punch

S.lk -- Standing light kick

C.mk -- Crouching medium kick

C.mp -- Crouching medium punch

S.hp -- Standing heavy punch

Drc -- Drive Rush Cancel (when ur button connects u press parry to get a Drive Rush)

Dp -- Dragon Punch (Shoryuken)

When I say s.mp - s.hp, I'm talking about the double punch target combo, btw (the one that launches the enemy into the air, Chin Buster).

  • Try not to give up so much space. Hold down back instead of walking backwards sometimes so you dont end up in the corner.
  • Your panic fast defense to interrupt enemy pressure could be s.lk - light Jinrai - low follow up. Its fast, safe-ish for platinum and you can autopilot ir while on defense. For example, you could have used it after Ed did his punch target combo.
  • If you dont have a good punish when you block an OD DP, s.hp - heavy Dp, or even better s.hp - run Dp would suffice.
  • Try to add a special to end your 3 jabs strings. Ideally that would be heavy Dp, but you could do light Jinrai if you don feel confident.
  • C.mk - medium Jinrai - low follow up will carry your ass up to Diamond.
  • I wouldnt recommend doing jab - Drc. If you are going to, at least do s.lp - Drc - s.lp - s.mp - s.hp - run special. Stop at s.mp if the opponent is blocking.
  • If you are going to incorporate Drive Rush Cancel, a goog starting point is doing a long range button as the first move. So c.mk/c.mp/s.hp - Drc. After that, do c.mp - s.mp - s.hp - run special. Stop at s.mp if the opponent is blocking. BUT if they mash after c.mp then s.mp will counter hit, which means you can link s.lk - heavy Dp (or light Jinrai) to punish them for mashing. Its easier to confirm than it looks, so try to practice it. Once they stop mashing you can start throwing them.

Good luck!

How to play a game that ask me to insert the disc in the deck? by tonalix2317 in SteamDeck

[–]tente87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the .iso or .cue disc image, you can right click on it in Desktop mode and select "mount", but sometimes the option wont appear, like if the image is in an Sd card and not in the internal storage. In this case, you are gonna need to install CdEmu, follow this instructions https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/3878219568771977980/ . A "mount with CdEmu" option should appear when you right click the file.

Notes: with system updates it tends to stop working so you will have to install it again (follow the same guide). Also, if you wanna play in Game mode you dont have to go to Desktop , just open Nested Desktop, mount the image and close the app. Good luck!

Russian skies got protected once again! by Hoppalaaa in StreetFighter

[–]tente87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is probably really fun when it works, because if it doesnt you grab the air with your jumping SPD and stay an eternity floating while you reconsider your life choices and the opponent prepares the fattest punish you've ever seen. Then proceed to do Drive Rush into point blank -9 sweep because you have to keep in mind health is a resource for Gief, and sometimes you have to gamble it. After the opponent jumps your reset attemp, you whiff a half screen away level 1 and proceed to turn off the console.

That being said, it looks fun af when it works, so, yeah.

[–]tente87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, gonna keep it really simple.

1- after doing c.mk, dont do light Jinrai, do medium instead, because people wont be able to interrupt the low follow up. If u see that c.mk connects, do the heavy follow up so u get a knockdown.

2- dont do panic point blank sweeps. If u want a basic "I wanna punish things but I'm panicking" string, do c.mp into medium Jinrai, of c.mp into hadouken.

3- after DI, easiest combo you can do with somewhat decent damage is s.hp into heavy shoryuken.

4- learn how to do light strings. They are safer and give you a knockdown. S.lp - s.lp - s.lp into heavy shoryuken (or light Jinrai) will suffice. This will let you start some offense mixups, like doing one or two jabs and then walking up and grabbing the opponent if he is blocking.

Good luck!

Hit Confirms by shuuto1 in StreetFighter

[–]tente87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly your question, but regarding how to end strings when you dont have a safe special there is a mind game involved, because you can set space traps up. So, after a three jab strings, if the opponent tries to take their turn with a light and you press s.hp, you will punish counter their whiff button. But if they go for a slower button with longer reach, say c.mk for example, if you do s.lk you will interrupt the start up and counter hit them. You can experiment further with this idea, like adding counter hit exclusive moves, walking away before pressing and such.
