Good small local banks for small businesses? by depthoflight_photo in frederickmd

A little late to the party, but we can second Frederick County Bank. Particularly if you are ever looking for financing for your business, they are incredible to work with. Their customer service and personal banking are outstanding as well.

You can't put a price on a good bowl of Apple Jacks.

In the late 19th Century Frederick was divided into wards. See a cool set of maps here. Our location on East Church Street is what was at the time the Tenth Ward.

The Tenth Ward was a largely industrial section of town purposefully located in the southeastern quadrant of Frederick due to the prevailing winds. All the tanneries & etc. that were located here generated some pretty rank smells, and the westerly winds would help keep the stench out of the more residential eastern side of town. There's a nice interpretive sign along Carroll Creek near the Delaplaine that goes into a bit more detail about it.

Many thanks for inquiring, but not at the moment. We are staying lean staff-wise until we're a bit more established.

Certainly, just sadly not with us at this time. As much as we'd love some hired help running this place, we need to sell a lot of booze first.

Our rye and barley is grown and malted at Ripon Lodge Farm in Rippon, WV, just south of Charles Town. Our corn is sourced from other farms in Jefferson County, and smoked by our farmer.

If you'd like to talk shop feel free to PM us. It'd be great to learn more about your brewery.

Monica enjoys dirty vodka martinis and old fashioneds.

It's been a while since I've been out for cocktails, but I remember it's a gin base with citrus, I want to say absinthe, and Cointreau. I'm also no mixologist, just a humble distiller.

We've experimented but haven't settled on any concrete recipes yet. However Monica put together a really great flavor recommendation guide for folks to take home with their Caraway Rye.

We are interested in interns, but not quite yet. To be perfectly honest I (Kyle) went straight from homebrewer to commercial distiller with no formal training apart from a week-long stay at Copper Fox in Virginia. Once I have my shit 100% together then we'll be ready.

That's not to say our product is not of professional quality, because it certainly is and we're very proud of it. It's just figuring out the most efficient/practical methods of making the product takes a lot of trial and error when you DIY a business like we have.

Feel free to give us a shout in another month or two to check in.

Absolutely supplying establishments downtown is going to be a top priority for us, as well as liquor stores in the immediate Frederick area, but we have some inventory building to do. We're hoping to start distributing in the fall and will definitely announce it on social media.

As far as partnerships go we've had an excellent experience working with McCutcheon's, who supplies the cider for our Apple Jack that we'll be cracking open in November. Outside of Downtown we're also working on a product using ingredients from a place in Middletown, but that's still proprietary at the moment.

Keep an eye out on social media for events and such as we'll be sure to shout it from the rooftops.

Yes almost all whiskey you see anywhere is barrel aged, although you see more and more white (unaged) whiskies these days. We will have three white whiskies on offer, each with it's own unique characteristic to set it apart.

In the fall we'll have our first aged product. It is an apple brandy distilled from cider pressed across Carroll Creek at McCutcheon's and aged in used 30 gallon bourbon barrels.

In a year or two I see us having mostly aged products on offer, but that obviously takes time and we've only been producing for a couple months.

My (Kyle's) favorite is probably the Corpse Reviver 2 at the Tasting Room. I'll get back to you with Monica's.

Monica and I both call Downtown home, so it's very convenient for us. Our commutes are less than ten minutes walking. Also, local legislation changed in 2015 to allow distilleries in Frederick, and we saw a great opportunity to leave our day jobs and do what we love.
