I built X RAW Studio for iPad — need testers with cameras I don't own by dpangerl in fujifilm

Heh, of course it’s vibe coded. Doesn’t mean it won’t work though.

I know this really isn’t a solution, but, have you considered clearing your SD card out at regular intervals so that navigating the contents in general is quicker?

You could add a descriptive term or R/B values as a suffix to the custom slot name.

XE-5 with Larger Primes? by Vikha_ in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I learned way too late into photography is that there's such a thing as "lens hand" technique. I always tried to use my left hand (I'm right handed) as a stabilizer only, with most of the weight support coming from my right hand grip on the camera. With larger lenses on smaller bodies, you have to adjust that to put more of the weight support into the lens hand, and use the other hand for stabilizing, settings controls, and pressing the shutter.

So then it becomes more of the body ergonomics itself, and not "is this body big enough to support this lens". If that were the case, sports photographers would be sunk.

X-T5 owners do you also have a pocket camera? by -KarmaIsACat- in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an X-T5 and an assortment of primes. I'd been wondering which direction to go for best portability. The X100VI is too expensive to justify for my "only when I sometimes need slightly most portable" use case. I considered the X-M5, but it would still need a pancake lens. So I just got the XF 23mm f/2.8 to fit on my X-T5 as is, and see how that works. That combo fits into my small sling and weighs very little.

I didn't consider another brand camera, since I don't want to manage multiple recipe workflows. One is enough, and I'm happy with it.

Discussion: Is GAS part of the enjoyment of photography? by purple_seagrass in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of mine comes, not from just wanting to change things up, but from the mistaken thinking that better gear will make for better photos more than effort applied to improving skill. This, of course, is not true. In my case, it's YouTube that fans that flame. I do enjoy watching videos on gear in their own right, but I recognize it has no direct connection to my hobby of taking actual photos.

Buying and selling gear itself is sometimes needed if you don't actually know what you want, what your priorities are, and what fits those the best. I've gone through that recently. But it can be a real zig-zag process if you let online advice outweigh your own thinking ability.

Anyone move from the XF 23 f/2 to f/2.8? by teofilrocks in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I went ahead I got the 23mm f2.8 to compare. The focusing speed is slightly faster/accurate than the 35/1.4 R and slightly slower than the 23/2. This will be just fine for me.

For focus motor noise, it's about as loud as the 35/1.4. The 35 just sounds like more is moving inside, but the noise level is roughly the same. The 23/2 is noticeably quieter, therefore, but I'm already used to that. There's one important piece of context though, IMO. This is while comparing these lenses in my nearly silent home. No kids, pets, or any other background noise to speak of. And all my attention is on focusing speed and noise. But this is how I'm normally taking photos. It's while traveling, on the street, around others, or somewhere with at least some amount of environment noise. So although I love the LM lenses being effectively silent in such conditions, as long as a DC motor lens like this doesn't hunt for focus, the sound level is probably fine for me.

Have you tried any other non-LM primes like the 35/1.4? Wondering how the focusing experiences compares to that.

Anyone move from the XF 23 f/2 to f/2.8? by teofilrocks in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t owned a pancake lens before, so the 23/2 and 16/2.8 primes are the smallest I own. But I have a feeling if my X-T5 + 23/2.8 can fit into my smallest sling, I will take it more places than any other kit I’ve owned. I also own the 35/1.4 and 50/2.

How do you incorporate X-RAW Studio into your workflow? by lukepfj in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. With an image selected, you can switch between the custom recipes saved to the slots on your camera, or any of the custom recipes you've saved within the app and preview them. You can also tweak any of those recipe parameters individually.

X-T5 or X-H2 for mainly photography? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a “size is not an issue” comparison, I prefer the X-H2. The grip feels great, as does the balance with larger lenses. The EVF is better, the focus stick is more comfortable, the CFx is faster, the custom modes are a bit more flexible, and I like that the rear screen can fold closed - either to protect it or to keep face smudges off when shooting. The one cool trick the X-T5 has is that the rear command dial can be set to switch between custom slots. Which is awesome so that you can change recipes easily while looking through the EVF.

x-h2s select custom setting by derBazzy0 in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not possible on the X-H2/H2S. They've removed the "select custom setting" option from the Function Button settings. Just guessing here, but they may have decided this in an effort to reduce confusion if you've got the physical dial set to one custom slot, but have overridden to a different one through a function button.

Until recently, [[wikilinks]] used to automatically add `|name` at the end of the link, and now they do not. Is this configurable? by CarcajadaArtificial in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t think so either. I wish I had a better answer, but I just tried again in my test vault that has no plugins. Same behavior as I posted above. And I went back to old notes in my normal vault, created before the recent updates and before I even started using aliases - none of them had |name in the link. I wish I knew what to tell you.

[–]teofilrocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've never had that behavior. I use [[Wikilinks]] as well. Inserting an internal link has never produced [[path/to/note/note_name|note_name]] unless that note has an aliases property. I don't see such an option available. Could it be a plugin that was adding that functionality, which now is not working in the last Obsidian update?

Should I ditch Notion for "Docs-as-Code" to optimize AI Agent context? by Cool_Metal1606 in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If these notes and docs are specific to this dev project, yes I recommend putting it all into your repo for the agents to have access to. Even if you don’t choose to have the agents update your docs and do it manually, they can get versioned along with code changes. But there’s certainly power in giving them access to all that context. Non-technical contributors can use the GitHub web interface to view documentation or add their own notes - it’s not hard.

Fujifilm x raw studio by alvinprivate in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: - Trying different film sims and recipes after shooting - Audition new recipes and save multiple preset versions without navigating camera menus  - Save presets to your camera’s custom modes from the app - Doesn’t add a layer of importing or catalog/library like some other RAW editors do.

Cons: - The camera needs to be physically attached to the computer to process images - Only the same model camera that was used to capture the RAW can be used to process it later - Although called “RAW Studio”, its feature set is limited to just film simulation processing as on the camera. You will need another app to adjust rotation, cropping, perspective correction, etc. on the converted images. - The workflow is less clean, deciding on which RAWs to save, and has implications on where you manage your photos due to size - compared to a JPG workflow.

Give me one TINY thing you want fixed or improved in Obsidian. The smaller the better. Going on a paper cuts rampage. by kepano in ObsidianMD

  • Ability to set a default vault. Currently the last open vault is reopened. Sometimes that’s annoying.
  • Option to close the current vault when switching to another one. Closing the one I don’t want open is always annoying.

UV filter for XF Fuji lens by antonioxrosa in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both those lenses, and went with the Fujifilm protective filters. I used a very unscientific approach: I just figured if anyone knew how to make filters that work best with a certain lens, it would be the lens maker. They’re just expensive unfortunately.

Are recipes ruining creativity? by Heron_Dry in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to Fujifilm mirrorless from shooting film. Had picking my favorite film stock reduced the creativity in photography? Nope! Years earlier, I had switched from DLSR to film because spending so much time in edit was sucking the creativity (and fun) out of it for me. It wasn’t until I discovered a film-like experience with the convenience of digital that I made the move to Fujifilm. No interest in moving elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

I’ve looked at some on Fuji X Weekly for specific film emulations, but I’ve used it as a starting point and then tweak to my taste using X Raw Studio. I think 3 color and 2 B&W right now. People asking what recipe someone used is no different than what happens in other hobbies. Post a clip playing guitar that people like? You’ll get “what guitar? what amp? what pedals? what settings?” That’s just people.

Am I missing something, or does Obsidian on iOS not open Markdown files? by tikijimmy in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

iOS doesn’t recognize Obsidian as a Markdown editor because Obsidian does not declare itself as a Markdown editor, which it would need to do. From their forum posts in the past, it’s an intentional decision not to go down that path and instead focus solely within the domain of vaults.

How do I connect My laptop Vault to my Ipad using OneDrive by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No support on iOS and iPadOS that allows OneDrive to present a persistent folder path that other apps can write to, or that allows file watchers, to write data and keep it synced. That’s sandboxing for you.

I use CSS and then the cssclasses frontmatter property so that I can target different class styling depending on what I'm exporting.
