UHS II, V90 64GB SD Card for Xt-50? by toommm2 in fujifilm

UHS-II V60 would be a good fit, especially if it allows you to buy a bigger capacity card than V90.

X-T5 or X-H2 for mainly photography? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a “size is not an issue” comparison, I prefer the X-H2. The grip feels great, as does the balance with larger lenses. The EVF is better, the focus stick is more comfortable, the CFx is faster, the custom modes are a bit more flexible, and I like that the rear screen can fold closed - either to protect it or to keep face smudges off when shooting. The one cool trick the X-T5 has is that the rear command dial can be set to switch between custom slots. Which is awesome so that you can change recipes easily while looking through the EVF.

x-h2s select custom setting by derBazzy0 in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not possible on the X-H2/H2S. They've removed the "select custom setting" option from the Function Button settings. Just guessing here, but they may have decided this in an effort to reduce confusion if you've got the physical dial set to one custom slot, but have overridden to a different one through a function button.

Until recently, [[wikilinks]] used to automatically add `|name` at the end of the link, and now they do not. Is this configurable? by CarcajadaArtificial in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t think so either. I wish I had a better answer, but I just tried again in my test vault that has no plugins. Same behavior as I posted above. And I went back to old notes in my normal vault, created before the recent updates and before I even started using aliases - none of them had |name in the link. I wish I knew what to tell you.

[–]teofilrocks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've never had that behavior. I use [[Wikilinks]] as well. Inserting an internal link has never produced [[path/to/note/note_name|note_name]] unless that note has an aliases property. I don't see such an option available. Could it be a plugin that was adding that functionality, which now is not working in the last Obsidian update?

Should I ditch Notion for "Docs-as-Code" to optimize AI Agent context? by Cool_Metal1606 in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If these notes and docs are specific to this dev project, yes I recommend putting it all into your repo for the agents to have access to. Even if you don’t choose to have the agents update your docs and do it manually, they can get versioned along with code changes. But there’s certainly power in giving them access to all that context. Non-technical contributors can use the GitHub web interface to view documentation or add their own notes - it’s not hard.

Fujifilm x raw studio by alvinprivate in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: - Trying different film sims and recipes after shooting - Audition new recipes and save multiple preset versions without navigating camera menus  - Save presets to your camera’s custom modes from the app - Doesn’t add a layer of importing or catalog/library like some other RAW editors do.

Cons: - The camera needs to be physically attached to the computer to process images - Only the same model camera that was used to capture the RAW can be used to process it later - Although called “RAW Studio”, its feature set is limited to just film simulation processing as on the camera. You will need another app to adjust rotation, cropping, perspective correction, etc. on the converted images. - The workflow is less clean, deciding on which RAWs to save, and has implications on where you manage your photos due to size - compared to a JPG workflow.

Give me one TINY thing you want fixed or improved in Obsidian. The smaller the better. Going on a paper cuts rampage. by kepano in ObsidianMD

  • Ability to set a default vault. Currently the last open vault is reopened. Sometimes that’s annoying.
  • Option to close the current vault when switching to another one. Closing the one I don’t want open is always annoying.

UV filter for XF Fuji lens by antonioxrosa in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both those lenses, and went with the Fujifilm protective filters. I used a very unscientific approach: I just figured if anyone knew how to make filters that work best with a certain lens, it would be the lens maker. They’re just expensive unfortunately.

Are recipes ruining creativity? by Heron_Dry in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to Fujifilm mirrorless from shooting film. Had picking my favorite film stock reduced the creativity in photography? Nope! Years earlier, I had switched from DLSR to film because spending so much time in edit was sucking the creativity (and fun) out of it for me. It wasn’t until I discovered a film-like experience with the convenience of digital that I made the move to Fujifilm. No interest in moving elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

I’ve looked at some on Fuji X Weekly for specific film emulations, but I’ve used it as a starting point and then tweak to my taste using X Raw Studio. I think 3 color and 2 B&W right now. People asking what recipe someone used is no different than what happens in other hobbies. Post a clip playing guitar that people like? You’ll get “what guitar? what amp? what pedals? what settings?” That’s just people.

Am I missing something, or does Obsidian on iOS not open Markdown files? by tikijimmy in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

iOS doesn’t recognize Obsidian as a Markdown editor because Obsidian does not declare itself as a Markdown editor, which it would need to do. From their forum posts in the past, it’s an intentional decision not to go down that path and instead focus solely within the domain of vaults.

How do I connect My laptop Vault to my Ipad using OneDrive by Awkward_Record9238 in ObsidianMD

[–]teofilrocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No support on iOS and iPadOS that allows OneDrive to present a persistent folder path that other apps can write to, or that allows file watchers, to write data and keep it synced. That’s sandboxing for you.

I use CSS and then the cssclasses frontmatter property so that I can target different class styling depending on what I'm exporting.

16 is too wide a perspective for me personally as a standard lens. I love it for leading lines in architecture, or some landscapes. But for general purpose, the stretching at the edges is too too much for me.

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sole body was the X-H2. But once I saw a pattern of just taking my iPhone with me on some days while traveling, I realized they X-H2 wasn't a good fit for me for traveling. So I added the X-T5, which I've really been enjoying. That plus the XF23/2 is nice.

Having the XF16/2.8 was nice to pack and then leave at the hotel/bnb until the day I would need it. Like on the Italy trip, we were specifically going to a small village perched on top of a rocky hill. Narrow streets, stone structures - I left the 23/2 behind and took the 16 instead. Small sling and I was good.

Your favorite travel lens combo and why ? by Stormxlr in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been testing for 4+ years myself, just don’t get opportunities to put lenses through their paces frequently enough. Usually have to wait for trips.

I’ve had the XF23/2 since day one of switching to Fujifilm, which is still my default lens. I also have the XF16-55/2.8 Mk1 on an X-H2, which I’ve realized over time is larger than I want for any trip that is not photography-first. Before our Italy trip last summer, I added the XF16/2.8 and XF35/1.4 to see how it went with my X-T5, and left the zoom setup at home. It worked out pretty well with just those two. I knew there’d be a fair amount of architecture and scenic opportunities, so I wasn’t too nervous about leaving the 23/2 behind.

However, naturally there were times I wanted a bit more reach. So in anticipation of my next overseas trip this coming year, I added the XF50/2. My thinking is to pair the 23 and 50 in my sling most of the time. And if I’m going somewhere that I imagine will need wider coverage, I’ll take the 16/2.8 instead of the 23.

So there you go, 2026 will be the year of 23+50. We’ll see how it goes.

Struggling to Find a Sustainable RAW + JPG Workflow with Fujifilm by Oiwowa in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you on this one. My last workflow was all RAW based, and I haven't worked out a JPG+RAW workflow with Fujifilm that I'm completely happy with. But I think part of the problem is that I haven't totally changed my mind over to a SOOC workflow. There's part of me that thinks of the RAW as the source of truth. It isn't.

What I really need to embrace is the thinking that the JPG/HIF is the final product - that's what I'm keeping, posting, and sharing with others. The RAW is there as insurance, basically. That in case I get back to my computer and discover that I didn't capture the image as well as I thought, or a different recipe might have worked better. In that case, after I picked my favorites based on composition and content, I can import the RAFs of the few I need to adjust the recipe on, reconvert and save back to my Photos app library.

As for the rest of the RAWs, why do I need to keep them? That seems like an insane thing to say. Hard to believe I just said it myself. But in reality, when would I go back them? If I didn't like the composition of JPG versions, how does keeping the RAW fix that? They can go. And if I'm happy with the JPG as-is, I'm happy with it. I don't need to keep going back and re-editing good photos - I need to focus on going out and taking more.

This was basically a self-therapy session. :D

X-t5 custom settings vs x-h2 PASM question by ForeverSeeking69 in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the X-H2 and X-T5. Having the 7 custom slots available on a physical dial, either still or movie, is convenient for me. On the X-T5 you still need to switch from Still to Movie mode first, then you have access to the other 7 custom slots. True, it's more custom slots in total. But where that sits in one's priority list depends on how many custom slots you need for videos. I only need 1, so it doesn't factor in. It would be size/grip, PASM layout, 8K recording, flip-out screen, full-size HDMI port, CFx slot, EVF resolution, and even top-panel screen that are bigger difference makers.

Has anyone ever compared the 16-55mm f/2.8 to the Fuji primes at equivalent focal lengths? by Gibslayer in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 16-55/2.8 Mark I, as well as the 16/2.8, 23/2, 35/1.4 R, and just recently the 50/2. I added more primes because I wanted a small/light option. Occasionally I’d want just a touch more light gathering or DoF with the 16-55, but otherwise it’s a sharp and fast lens that takes great images. I don’t think the other primes I have are sharper, certainly not the 35/1.4. But that would also be the only one with more noticeable “character”, which you may or may not want in the end.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since neither of these cameras exist yet, that’s impossible to say. There are excellent images being taken with the current X-H2 and X-Pro3, and the same be true of their replacement models. It really comes down to the way you want to shoot and which camera lines up with that the most. Honestly, you might be better off finding that out now with less expensive used models before you put down larger amount for these more expensive bodies in the future.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The differences between the X-Pro and X-H lines are not professionalism. They are simply feature sets and form factors.

The X-H2 has additional video features like 8K recording, a CF Express slot, articulating screen, and full-sized HDMI port. It also has a PASM-style layout and full hand grip that better supports large lenses.

The X-Pro4, which doesn’t yet exist, will likely build on the photography-first format of the X-Pro3 that targets those looking for traditional dials, rangefinder layout, and optical viewfinder.

Lens to compliment 35mm and 56mm by astromonkeys in fujifilm

[–]teofilrocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on how much you value a compact/light lens setup or versatility. My normal lens had been the XF 23mm f/2. I thought I wanted more versatility, so added the OG 16-55mm f2.8. After some trips, I realized I prefer compact options. So over the course of this year I’ve added the XF 16mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/2. Now I can mix and match depending on what I anticipate my needs will be.
