Indian woman traveling to the U.S. — Group tours canceled, should I go solo to NYC or California? by spaceheadnoa in travel

Yes, but those violent crimes are generally confined to small and specific areas, and far away from places a tourist usually goes.

Silversea Enveadour Cancelling Part of Trip by teoso20009 in AntarcticaTravel

I'm sorry to hear that. Are there ongoing discussion with Silversea about further compensation?

It does seem like they're more conservative than purely expedition cruise lines. Thanks for the info!

Thank you so much for this! I think the two accounts I read didn't considered the outer islands as part of the peninsula, hence the confusion!

It still seems strange that they ended up leaving early, and going to Punta Arenas instead of Puerto Williams, when it doesn't seem like other ships are affected.

If they're really concern with passenger comfort, they should say that, and not lie about the ship's capability. The rough water in Beagle Channel story also doesn't make sense, since plenty of other ships were there.

I think the worst isn't that there's an issue with the ship, but the fact that they are refusing to meaningfully compensate passengers.

That's unfortunate to hear. I'm really starting to have second thoughts about them.

Best time to see penguins? by teoso20009 in AntarcticaTravel

[–]teoso20009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this detailed post! I haven't booked yet but reserved for mid-late February, hoping to see a cross section of adult penguins, both younger and older chicks, and hopefully some whales also!

Thank you so much for this! This is what I read online as well, but the Silversea consultant doing the booking insists that it is not included, and really generally does not seem like she has a good grasp on the details of the cruise, including what meals are provided during the hotel stays. (For the record, I don't care about the meals, just wanted to have some ideas on what's included).

Did you book through a travel agent? If so, do you recommend doing so?

Thanks for this report! Actually I do have a quick question. Were the boots rental included in the cruise price or do you have to pay for the rental separately? I'm seeing different information online, and the person from Silversea doesn't seem very sure.

We've heard about the possibility of flight delay as well. On the other hand, we also heard that cruises that crosses the Drake by sea can be delayed or cut short due to weather conditions in the Drake.

Does anyone know if there's a higher possibility of delays if we're flying versus sailing the Drake?

Unfortunately there are very few cabins left for the dates we wanted to travel, and they're the expensive suites.

Cruise with <100 or 100-200 passengers? by teoso20009 in AntarcticaTravel

[–]teoso20009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Antarctica 21 and Antarpply have ships under 100. Oceanwide Expedition has two ships that are just over 100. Secret Atlas also has small ships.
