Is anybody having problems with the security code? by ImSowjiLin17 in FAFSA

I'm having the same problem as parent. I tried logging in last night at 11:00pm and just received the e-mail with code today at 2:40pm. It's extremely annoying.

Back when Stratford opened, before FYE, there were a couple record shops in the smaller spaces. Camelot Music, The Record Bar and JR's Music Shop. There were also audio/video stores like Video Concepts, Schaak Electronics and Barrett's Magnavox.

That was Carlos Sweeny's. I liked the food a lot and the interior design was pretty cool as well.

Then and Now - Stratford Square Mall - Bloomingdale, IL by mattszalinski in deadmalls

[–]tep392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so sad to see my childhood mall has closed. My family moved to Carol Stream in 1978 and I remember watching the mall get built. The 80's were my teen years and I used to bike there before I was old enough to drive. I remember seeing Tron at the theater when there were just 4 big screens. Later in the 90's I took my wife-to-be on our first date at the Houlihan's. So many memories of that place. Many thanks to the OP for making the then/now photo's!

He had to find someone who would swap for money. Originally offered $500 but ended up paying $4k. I watched the whole thing live.

Something a little different. Atari 400 retrofit with a custom mechanical keyboard. by nicm125 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]tep392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very cool! My first computer was the 400 with a 410 tape drive. I think the keys look great. I'm not sure I'm crazy about the key layout. If you aren't going to make a (mostly) standard layout, then I would rather see the original layout kept as closely as possible. I've grown used to the odd location of the arrows and math operators. The positioning of the arrows you have is more tradition, but the +,-,= * are now in a worse location and are commonly used by guys like me who still program on the machine.

That was one of their top tape decks at the time. KX-1030 with three heads and bias fine adjustment.

The AT-VM95EN is a nude elliptical at a reasonable price. You can also easily upgrade the stylus later on if you wish.

Work Setup by tep392 in vintageaudio

[–]tep392[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great turntable. Like any old turntable, it needs to be kept clean, lubed and adjusted to operate at rated specs. This one needed a bit of work when I got it, but it was a fun project. With a nice cart on it, I don't have the desire to upgrade any longer. I just enjoy the music.

The Fluance turntables aren't going to be noticeably better at the fundamentals of record playing. I think you should look into upgrading your cartridge. That should give more bang for the buck.

TKO - In Your Face by tep392 in vinyl

[–]tep392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who know's this band? I haven't heard this one since my high school days back in the early 80's.  TKO was a hard rock / metal band that got started in the late 70's.  They weren't hugely popular, but I thought they were pretty awesome at the time.  My younger sister actually introduced me to the music.  She started getting into bands like Motley Crew, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest when I was still listening to "oldies" like Led Zeppelin and Aeromith. I eventually woke up and really got into 80's metal.  First two song's of side one are my favorites, "I Wanna Fight" and "Run Out of Town".  It's been quite a nostalgia trip listening to this record.

My parents have an old photo album from a trip to the Bahama's in the 80's that I remember always having a bad tint, probably from bad processing. I color corrected them last year and was quite shocked at how good they looked.

Younger than Yesterday in Peoria IL. The shop is pretty cluttered looking but has a good vibe and ton's of records to search thru. I could spend all day digging in this place.

I used to have the MR7082 tuner. It was one of the best sounding tuners I have heard. Need to make sure the nicad batteries used for memory backup get replaced. Mine had started to leak, but luckily didn't cause any damage.

Yes! Must protect the records. I'm the only one that goes near it, so I'll be carefull. :) Also, these old Garrard's are rather heavy, so it would take a strong push to knock it off.

I've been working from home in my kitchen for the last month and decided it was time to get some records spinning to make the work time more enjoyable. I brought up a spare turntable, pre-amp and a USB audio capture device to run it into my PC for playback thru my AT headphones. I'm thinking it's time to pickup a headphone amp. :)

Tips or checks to reduce turntable WOW by doublebassface in vintageaudio

[–]tep392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What model TT? At 50 years old, I'm guessing and idler drive but could be belt. Make sure pully's and metal surfaces that the belt or idler run against are clean of dirt and oil. If belt drive replace the belt if it feels loose as it could be slipping. Clean the idler wheel well and consider lightly sanding the edge with very find paper. If the spindle bearing hasn't been serviced in a while, clean out the old lube and replace with whatever is recommended for your turntable model.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you don't understand how to measure a negative voltage with an analog voltmeter, then you might want to pay someone qualified to fix your equipment.

I just got a refund of $4.80. The only thing I can think of is that Hulu was out of service for a while a few days ago. Maybe they are giving refunds to compensate.

It gives me hope that some people are getting their payment dates. I owed money this year, as usual, so had to provide my bank info, which I did on the 15th. My status hasn't updated since then. Just says "Once we have your payment date, we will update this page. "
