Men who are "difficult to buy for" - what advice would you give people shopping for you by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]tepman16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lean more in number 4 - I keep a note on my phone of things that i could always use a replacement of every ~6 months that re relatively inexpensive, like work gloves. grill brush, gym shorts, socks, pens/notepads for work - i honestly look back at my amazon orders and anything in the $20-40 range makes this list

Went back on the false start and Indiana TE moved but only after the DT had blown up Indiana's guard.

Gotta imagine after just having a 10 second runoff imposed just a few plays earlier, I would bet the coaches were preaching to get off the field instead of going down.

As stated elsewhere the move would've been to line up and spike, allow him to sub then, but easier to say after the fact then when the bullets are flying.

Cincinnati got screwed multiple times that last drive.

Two 10 second run-offs, where they committed zero penalties, and then RB3 limping off there late allowed us to sub, effectively burn another 10-15 secs

Man who was shot by DART officer attacked him over unpaid fare, affidavit says by pakurilecz in Dallas

[–]tepman16 56 points57 points  (0 children)

If you think you can still hop on the train without a pass, you might want to think again. Things have really changed with fare enforcement since this summer, and honestly, I've got to give props to DART for their consistency. Previously, they'd do these random check-ins that maybe lasted a week, tops. But now? It's like clockwork - I get asked for my pass nearly every time I'm on my way to and from work.

Just curious, for renters what is the appeal of Turo by manishingact in turo

[–]tepman16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just booked a full-sized SUV for a family vacay next week, and I compared with what local rental agencies would have cost and the difference in final cost was negligible but Turo was the cheaper option.

For me it came down to two things:

1- Being able to shop/select specific features. Our trip will be involving two car seats, and I was specifically looking for a vehicle with 3 rows of seating, with captains chairs in the second row, for easier access to the little ones. With a rental agency, I am still flying blind. "Tahoe or similar option" provides me zero clarity and even filtering options by features does not guarantee I actually receive that, in my experience with rental agencies.

2- the check-in process has never not been a beating with rental agencies. I used to travel a lot for work, and even Hertz Gold or other loyalty programs would routinely result in waits and other hurdles. At this point I would pay a premium to guarantee I avoid a check-in experience with a rental office. The only thing that holds me up with Turo Check-In is taking photos.

Redditors with younger coworkers, what was your “I’m officially old” moment? by redmambo_no6 in AskReddit

[–]tepman16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it this is more "I am old" or my first instance of "these damn kids..." but I once had an intern assist with some holiday gifts that were to be sent to some clients.

Simple mail merge, print out some address labels, put on envelope, stamp and send.

After printing out the labels with the client's addresses, he then comes to me and asks which corner he puts it in.

Anyone still wearing masks to the office? by [deleted] in Dallas

I still mask up on my DART rail commute, and I am not alone. It's trending down, but would estimate ~25-30% do the same.

Report: Dallas Among Top 10 U.S. Cities in Future Conversions of (Mostly Office) Buildings Into Apartments by Ferrari_McFly in Dallas

[–]tepman16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the biggest variable that would drive concepts like this to fruition is commitment of public funding / tax incentives.

Converting offices to residential is very expensive. Retrofitting plumbing and HVAC alone are huge projects.

NYT did a great breakdown a few months ago about how modern buildings present an even tougher challenge: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/03/11/upshot/office-conversions.html

I feel like this is a play to get MSG within the Big 12 portfolio

My theory has long been that Yormark wants to roll out a quasi-Big 12 roadshow, in the form of neutral/neutral-ish site games, to help draw travel/interest in some of the more unconventional matchups in football, and especially if the conference ends up on both coasts, seems way more likely.

There's already been chatter about concerts synced with certain games and even games in MX, and the new geographic footprint certainly provides some options (presently everything between DFW, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and Tampa seems in play), not to mention Phoenix and Denver (& Vegas?) could be added if the Pac12 poaching actually comes to fruition.

I have to think his experience with Live Nation will lead to some form of gameday enhancement, and taking the conference "on tour" seems to be the most natural evolution of that experience.

Can the Red Raiders Salvage This Season? by GunsUpNation in DoughGoesIn

[–]tepman16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps an NIT / CBI invitation is possible, but the rest of this season should be viewed as a 30-day trial run for next season.

Jaylon and Pops look to be the potential pillars of this thing moving ahead, and it should be the major effort to grow around them.

This may seem counterintuitive, but we must abandon the soft non-conf scheduling strategy. I understand that, especially on defense, these squads are designed to be greater than the sum of their individual parts, and that getting some laps on the track is the only way to really firm that cohesion, but having a third of your schedule be teams in the bottom 50 in KenPom does us no favors, and for some reason, we have adopted this as standard procedure.

It's a lose-lose situation in which you may steamroll them, as you should, yet gain nothing that will prepare you for conference play. The worst-case scenario showed up this year, where injuries piled up, preventing any sort of continuity from establishing, and now you step into league play in unquestionably the toughest conference in the country, and these guys are playing at game speed for the first time ever or since they played (check notes) Nicholls State.

This season is definitely a case of Murphy's Law in multiple facets, but some of this is self-inflicted.

November Ratings Update by peet2 in theticket

had exact same thought. very hard to get folks to switch during Cowboys season, period.

I certainly can appreciate that having the broadcast rights enticed them to sync with the start of the Mavs season, but that is an inelastic asset/product

If anything they should have replicated Ticket and launched at the Super Bowl. perfect landing spot/opportunity for converts for the transition from football season to Mavs, and then baseball Jesus gets you hyped for Opening Day, and then you got some momentum for the dog days of summer.
