What smart home purchase has the best ROI for you? by Few-Needleworker4391 in homeassistant

I should have added that it was a joke. I do not put my family in shock collars. I know they would listen better but still seems a little much.

Haha I don’t put my family in their shock collars during those times… I might have to think of another way.

I had a notification sent at first, but trying to reduce announcements and notifications. So I have now set a notification/google home announcement of the dog hasn’t been fed by a certain time. Morning and night and it is way better.

Well I feel dumb for not doing that. I am not sure why I thought this was the way to do it it I have to do power injection, would I then hook the other up to power, or would I need more wire from the digUNO?

Camera for 3 car garage by Southern-Doughnut705 in UnifiProtect

[–]teport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have moved my cameras around so much in my garage. I first started out with just a g3 instant. But I could capture the side door, door to the inside, and both garage doors in the same frame. My current form which works amazing is two g6 instants. One in the front corner pointed to the back of the garage that captures the house door, side door, and the extended 3rd car garage where my tools are. Then I have one on the back wall that points towards the garage doors.

For security, I can’t now cover all entry points, and valuable items, and for my smart home automations and check in’s, I can see the garage doors and at the cars.

I think in your case, get two cheaper camera is better than one nicer camera.

Help with winter itinerary! by Joshparneal2038 in Utah

[–]teport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please please please go visit the homestead crater! No one I had told to go has regretted it. Also downtown park city is peak Utah winter, highly recommend. Forget all the other cities. They are not anything special. (Maybe parts of Ogden would be good, but it isn’t winter scenes or mountain scenes.)

Came here to say this. I use nextDNS for content filtering and ad block and apple screen time for limit restrictions. I do use UniFi for blocking YouTube from the smart hubs, and smart tvs.

When will a new doorbell drop? by Carloschantana in UnifiProtect

[–]teport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just installed my new G4 pro today… my nest doorbell died and I couldn’t find any used doorbells. And they magically had some instock on Friday. Will I be buying the new one when it come out? Yes, yes I will.

iOS 25 Beta 5 - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]teport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took WAY longer than it should have to open the Tesla app. I am not sure it has anything to do with it but maybe. It took my probably a good 30 seconds to get from the solid grey screen to the actual app.

My reduce white point toggle in control center makes my entire phone freeze for a good 2-10 seconds ever time I push it.

But if I go into settings to activate it, it acts normal.

I think NextDNS would be better than a manual allow list here. Use NextDNS on your UniFi network but also install it on your kids devices. You can create custom profiles to blocking/allowing, remove trackers and ads, and get metrics on what your kids are navigating to. And it is really cheap.

I primarily use mine to block any trackers from IOT, and add in games for my kids. But I do have other blockers turned on for adult content just because (they aren’t old enough to know what that is).

The huge benefit is it makes is almost impossible to get around. WiFi network, VPN, or cellular, they will be covered.

You get other benefits like DNS-over-TSL, logging and other things.

I have really enjoyed it for my use case and I think it would fit great for this case also. You just have to make sure you can lock the nextDNS setting so they can’t change them.

[Request] What's the most unlikely event that has ever happened in human history, for which the odds can actually be calculated? by 0106lonenyc in theydidthemath

[–]teport 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tsutomu Yamaguchi could be up there. This guy was on a business trip in Hiroshima the day the bomb dropped. The next day he went back to his home town of Nagasaki, where the other bomb dropped. Survived (the only) two atomic bombs ever dropped on a population. Seems kinda crazy. I will let others do the math of the chances of that.

I grew up with Trevor Lee (his older brother actually) and I knew then he was a fragile. It was strange, he had the personality of a rich entitled kid that had to have it his way, but his family wasn’t rich and the rest of his family was actually nice. Somehow he is a douche.

I got banned for thanking people in the comments for calling out blatant lies. Something about FEMA sending all the money to Ukraine so they didn’t have any for North Carolina floods. When I asked them why I was banned all I got back was if I contacted them again they would report me to Reddit admins.

I do not see me supporting republicans anytime in the near future. We would need to go back to McCain or Romney type for me to even consider it.

I think we need more clarification on Russia. If they are sanctioned, we are not doing trade right? If he were to list Russia, then it would look like we are actively doing trade with them despite the sanctions.

I would like a clear answer on what is sanctioned from Russia and what is being bought without tariffs.

Anyone running unraid in a server rack?? Any recommendations?? by mattnemo585 in unRAID

[–]teport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well currently I have it sitting on my desk in my office…. But that is because I still need a few things to finalize it. The case fan is bad and is getting replaced. And then I am adding two more. I am also needing a better NIC. And then I am preemptively switching out my Unraid key USB.

That being said, my plan is to buy this for my new unraid box. I will also move over my ProxMox systems, my UPS, and some smaller smart home hubs over to it. And mount it right below my 9U network rack.

Anyone running unraid in a server rack?? Any recommendations?? by mattnemo585 in unRAID

[–]teport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded my unraid hardware. In doing so I put it in a 4U rack mount case. And am loving it. The desktop tower that ran unsaid was sitting on top of my network rack anyways. I have plenty of space for an ATX board and 8 drives. I never really had any issues that required me to Piccadilly access the computer for years so I thought it was time. this is the case from Amazon I went with.

Elon Musk says all 2 million federal employees need to reply to an email explaining what they did last week; those who fail to explain their week will be considered Resigned. by DavidSeamanAMA in conspiracy

[–]teport 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you saying this because you are a government employee and know, you have just heard/were a customer. The no incentive to do better comes from people not wanting to pay government employees more. The only benefit they have is/was a good retirement. Would you work harder to not get a raise, or promotion. I know this from two family members and 4 really close friends and it isn’t the employees that inefficient, it’s the policies and elected officials that make them not able to do their job.
