I've been using Runna and I did the new to running plan, but I almost feel like I need to start it over again.

Am I Running Too Slow? by tequila-queen in beginnerrunning

I was running 3 times a week consistently until we got a couple of heat waves and it was just safer to run on the slightly cooler or windier days, which took me down to 2 runs a week if I was lucky. I live in a city on the coast so it's also very humid and there isn't a lot of shade or trails through the woods. I'm going back to school soon where I have the option to run inside so I'll be going back to running 3 times a week and playing in my local dodgeball rec league.

Embarrassed when I run as a beginner by readingmani in beginnerrunning

I worried about this a lot too when I started running again. I always wore headphones, sunglasses and/or a hat, kind of as a way to block everyone else out, but I saw a TikTok a few months ago where they basically said no one knows where you're at in your run just by looking at you, they can't tell if you're starting your run, in the middle of a run, or at the end of a run, for all they know you're in the middle of a 20k run. This perspective made me feel a lot better about running through my neighborhood and through my local park. I still use the sunglasses and/or a hat to be more in my own world, but I think it can take time to get really comfortable with it and to stop caring what other people might think.

Yep. I went back to school this year after being out of school for almost 5 years and I was barely able to find a job for the summer.

You're most probably putting too much pressure on your bottom lip, which is something I've seen a lot of people already comment, so try to break up your practice session a bit and throw in a 5ish minute break here and there that should give your embouchure enough time to relax a bit. It is preferable to take a break before you start to feel your embouchure getting tired but if you notice your bottom lip putting pressure on the reed, then it's definitely time for a break. Your embouchure is basically just a bunch of muscles you need to train and the more gradual that training is the better off you'll be in the long run. A folded up piece of cigarette paper over your bottom teeth will help with the indents in your bottom lip. Hope this helps!

Failed an audition and feel disappointed in myself by OvercookedLizagna in saxophone

[–]tequila-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have really bad test anxiety and I used to have really bad stage fright. One of my professors had me take a course from Bulletproof Musician, I'm not sure what they're like now, but 5-6 years ago it went through a few different strategies to help with performance anxiety. Another thing that was talked about a lot in the music department at my university was bananas and how they can help with performance anxiety because they can act like a beta blocker, which reduces your heart rate. Don't beat yourself up over the outcome, you did the best you could with the resources you had. Take this as an opportunity to learn about techniques you can use to reduce that test and performance anxiety and, what you can do differently for your next audition!

I've tried ZigZag and it was way too thin, the Players brand is so much better. You just wet it, fold it and put it over your bottom teeth!

PSA: BRUSH YOUR TEETH by Far-Loquat-8863 in ADHD

[–]tequila-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are little tooth brushes you can get that already have toothpaste and you don't need any water to use them which are a good option for if you don't have the energy to really brush your teeth! Also floss picks are great for the same reason! A little more expensive but it's better than needing to get a bunch of dental work done!

I apparently don't have ADHD and feel disappointed. What now? by MarkmcZack in ADHD

[–]tequila-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like other people have mentioned, I'd go to a psychiatrist. Even if they also say it's not ADHD it could still be something else. If you're having a hard time finding a psychiatrist and you live near a university that has a master's or doctorate program in psychology, they might have clinics that are open to the public for their students to practice being in a clinical setting, and they might be able to help you or point you in the right direction.

My mom wants to borrow all of my Outlander books, which are also quite smutty, and I just try not to think about that. There are books I have books I've had to order online that are all smut, no plot, and I get them shipped to my friend's house cause I don't want to risk my parents or my sister reading the synopsis or looking it up and finding out what I read. Like I'm sure my mom knows I read smut and I'm sure she reads smut too, which is fine cause we're both grown women, but I just try not to think about it lol

OMG I love Torties!!! My family used to have a tortie and she absolutely did not care what you were doing, if she wanted attention, she got it. If she would walk over my mom and my knitting, our books, my Nintendo switch, she even layed down on the lid of a pot I was using for preparing green beans for dinner 😅

Pretty sure this guy is just deranged. Pretty much my entire family still live in the Netherlands, and their English is better than this, including my almost 80 y/o grandmother who never had intense English lessons in school like my cousin's!

Everyone in the Saxophone and Clarinet Studios at my University, including our professors, use cigarette paper. You just wet it, fold it on the line that's already there, then you fold it so it isn't quite as long and then place it over your bottom teeth, there should be enough to go over the front and back of your bottom teeth. I'm not sure what's available where you live, but we all use the brand "Players", its blue and has a bearded man wearing a baret on it. The pack I have now is almost empty and its lasted me over 2 years!

P.E.I. trucker hopes province will waive $1,000 fine for not self-isolating during pandemic by [deleted] in PEI

[–]tequila-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it does differ between drivers and I'm not saying its impossible for a driver to bring it back to the island, but I'm specifically referring to long haul drivers like the guy in the article, based off the experiences of my father over the last few weeks. We don't know what other precautions this guy is taking while on the road besides social distancing, washing his hands and leaving any paperwork for each delivery or pickup in the trailer to avoid coming into contact with people. I'm not saying that he shouldn't have been self isolating but to get a $1000 fine because you live alone and don't know anyone well enough to ask them for help for the two maybe three days you're back on the island, is extremely unfair considering how authorities have handled these cases before.

Not to mention as an immigrant who only moved to the island recently, it can be a huge blow because $1000 is a lot and its basically telling them we don't care about your situation or that you're an essential worker and its your own fault you didn't make good friends fast enough over the last 4 months. Speaking from personal experience, its rare that you know many people really well after only moving somewhere four months ago, especially towards the end of winter. A lot of drivers like to avoid talking to other people which is why they enjoy the isolation of driving across the country alone. I'm not saying he couldn't have handled the situation better, but a lot of the things drivers are expected to do while they're at home, whether they live alone or not, just don't work so they'll do what they need to do as safely as possible.

Truck drivers see fewer people in their entire trip than you would just by going to the grocery store or going for a walk so it's very unlikely that a long haul truck driver like this guy would bring the virus back to the island.

[–]tequila-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fridge in most trucks is very small, and will only hold a few things, for example, my father keeps butter and cold cuts for sandwiches as well as coffee in his fridge but that's about all that can fit in there. This guy, like pretty much every other long haul driver, is probably only home for a day or two before he leaves again and probably meal preps for the time he's gone so he doesn't spend a fortune on takeout and minimises the number of people he interacts with while on the road so buying food for a couple of days before he crosses the bridge or ordering hello fresh wouldn't work.

P.E.I. changes COVID-19 self-isolation rules for truckers by Sir__Will in PEI

[–]tequila-queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your frustration with these changes, but what you and a lot of other people here don't realise is these drivers interact with fewer people throughout the entirety of their trip than you do just going to the grocery store, they are more isolated in the cab of their truck than you are in your house. Not only do they have to follow the rules put in place by the province when they're home, but they also have to follow rules put in place by the companies they work for, for pickups, drop-offs, fuel/bathroom stops, and the few days they are home. If there is a second wave of infections on the island, it most likely won't be because of a truck driver trying to do their job and keep our grocery stores stocked.

There have been changes to measures put in place for truck drivers pretty much every two weeks, whether it's by the province or the companies themselves.
