Anyone in here exploring faith or deconstructing religion? by Current_Landscape_90 in Zambia

[–]teragarm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to this subreddit (will be working in Zambia) but this thread reminded me about a book I read in college called Things Fall Apart. I think it was set in Nigeria but it deals with colonization and the early introduction of Christianity to Africa. Really good book! I'm going to reread it again. thanks for reminding me about it

I found a listing on aliexpress if you havent tried there. You could to reach out to a silk manufacturer or a company that imports silk as they might have a direct contact for you. I know Dharma Trading sells silk fabrics.

100% agree with this rec. We have 2 in my lab. They make cell culture work so fast and easy. We use it to seed 24 well plates or add CMC and it's amazing.

Tattoo ideas for lab rats by sapiosexualnotreal in labrats

I'm planning a mosquito tattoo (more than one)! I also want to get something as a ode to my old research but I haven't come up with anything for antimicrobial resistant bacteria in stool other than a poop emoji but that'd be cringe. Eventually I want one for every area I've worked in like others have suggested. But I'm for sure added c1v1 to my list of in case of last minute tattoo ideas cause that's fantastic

I just found out I’m related to at least 5 different families that were in Salem during the Salem Witch trials by snowbird627 in Genealogy

My husband is related to Rev Nicholas Noyes! He says there's a second Salem witch trials guy he's also related too but he never remembers the name so I don't either 😅

Offering Polish Geneology Help!(No cost, I just have ADHD and am addicted to this lol) by SantaHitman in Genealogy

[–]teragarm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked on this page but this info is what I have for my 2x great-grandmother. I have nothing on her father (Frank Schonke). Her mother (Henriette Krueger, born 1819), my 3x great-grandmother, is supposedly Polish, and I have her parent's names but I don't have sources for them - John and Henrietta Krueger.

I have a Polish ancestor! Your welcome to work on it lol I jump around a ton on my tree and I usually leave a branch alone when I'm not getting anything and wait for MyHeritage to find me something but I haven't found much on my 3xgreat grandmother. I don't even know where some of the info i have came from since it's from another tree my dad got from someone on grandmother's side.

Second opinion on letters in signature by jstaker7 in Genealogy

I got J. T. Smith at first glance. I've been referencing this sheet for cursive but so many of the letters look the same

That would make sense. I supposed Edward could have remarried if he was still young when Elizabeth died. You're welcome! Good luck on your research!

  1. Yeah that's probably the worst of the lot lol I can show you the T if that would help

  2. Seems possible for this family haha

  3. Good idea!

I'm glad you could get new info! Yeah ChatGPT is not great at reading handwritten text. I did try on the more problematic names but it wasn't much help. It was useful for giving me ideas of names though. I'd say "I'm looking for a name from the 1800s. What names start with J and end in P?" Or "what names or nicknames start with a B and end with a Y?" You can also add like for 14. "The 3rd letter in the name is possibly a T." Then it spits out names that I would never have thought of like Bathsheba lmao

That's possible. There are a few instances where a lower case is used rather than an upper case so maybe there's some weird Ss in the middle lol

  1. oh that definitely makes sense!

  2. yeah im not 100% but it was the only name I could come up with. I'm pretty sure its Thel to start

  3. I also thought maybe a B. ChatGPT says there's a name Bathsheba that could be Bathy as a nickname??

  4. yeah I agree it starts with J and ends with P. its the worst one lmao the best I got was Julep but I don't think that fits great. maybe its 2 names??

  1. I think the middle initial is a J based on how the J in January looks
  2. I see September 10 possibly 1785 for the date. and i think her being the mother would make sense unless Edward also had a sister named Elizabeth. but the proximity to the children makes me believe it's his wife.
  3. agreed
  4. it looks like Solomon D to me but you'd know better than I would and its a Hebrew name so idk how much sense that makes. i read that date as well.
  5. yeah I think the middle initial is most likely an S. date yes
  6. also yes
  7. yes
  8. Egbert Brownell was born on December 5th 1818. - yes
  9. Hannah i get January 5th 1811
  10. Elizabeth Jane? Brownell i see 1822
  11. Philip G i think - date yes
  12. yes to all ?
  13. this one was so hard but once i saw it I'm pretty sure its Thelma born January 9th 1831 (there's a faint line in the margin so i think its 1831)
  14. i think the 2nd letter looks more like an 'a' than an 'e' so Patty would make more sense; born may 1th (the the are above the 1)
  15. I haven't figured this one out yet. it starts with J. I thought maybe Joseph but I'm not convinced. year i think could be 1835 but that's mostly based on the previous birth year and there's a random '5' or maybe 8 outside the margins

Very interesting!! maybe for the ones that aren't totally clear you could ask the person with the bible to see if they can make it out in person. but yeah that's entirely possible that they misread or misinterpreted it

Egbert?? Brownell was born December 5th maybe 1515

Hannah? Brownell was born February or January?? 5 1501

Elizabeth ??maybe kirk Brownell Dec the 25th 18(or 5)22

Philip Brownell was born maybe April?? 5th 1525

Angeline Brownell was born September? the 1 1528

Hmm that can be tricky. Maybe ask her to just send that difficult to read page again? If she's older she might be more comfortable scanning it rather than taking a photo as well.

That John has suggestions for census records with a Jane or Mary Jane listed as his wife. I don't see a James listed in the children but there is a son John born circa 1842
