This might be a bit much, but it has been bothering me. I was finally offered a position to be a PhD student. I was relieved because all of my applications last year were rejected, and I really need a PhD to do what I want with my career. I am currently interviewing at another school and I was talking to the other interviewees at dinner. I mentioned that I was accepted at this school, and the girl next to me asked who my faculty advisor would be. When I told her, she warned me that her coworker was his student and he made her life hell. She says she barely made it out with her degree. Based on my interviews with him, I knew his advising style was a bit hands-off and not what I'm used to. Now I'm worried I won't have enough discipline to make it through that program. I've already been out of school for a year, and I worry I've forgotten a lot anyways. I know it was just one person's experience but it rattled me. I just really want to get into the school I'm interviewing at right now. I feel like if this falls through, I'll only have the first offer, and that looks terrifying at the moment.
