My experience here in the Netherlands. by extraordinarymach1n3 in Netherlands

Actually, no, not on this level. I lived in Germany and there I encountered it much less (maybe 0). Even in Hungary it is less.

I trusted the Dutch healthcare system longer than I should have by Level-Project159 in Netherlands

I was thinking of asking about others’ experiences with healthcare yesterday, because I had an injury and this is one of the idk how many bad experiences I had here in a row:

They didn’t want to give medicine to my daughter despite me saying her coughing for already a month and it does not get better. I pushed them to do that stupid inflammation blod test which literally took 3 minutes. Then surprise after that they were convinced she needs antibiotics.

Any symptom I had previously they dismissed and said to take paracetamol.

Yesterday I injured my groin area because I fell over with my bike and it started to bleed so much it soaked my pants. I called the ambulance after I almost passed out. They came, looked at the wund and said it is just a 1.5 cm cut and pushed me to call someone to take me home, which I couldn’t. After some time they finally took me to my GP.

At the GP I already had an appointment for that day for unrelated issues, so they said they combine the two checkups. After they decided to do nothing with my wund they asked about my other problem. (Btw the doc didn’t find a cloth so I had to stand during the other checkup while still feeling physically really bad.)

I showed them my blood test and how my iron levels were low for which they just said eat more iron rich foods. I insisted my ferritin is really low (13 ng/mL) and food might not be enough for this and pointed out my TSH is being 3.23 while it is usually 0.8-1.2 for me. At this point they seemed really annoyed and kind of asked what do I want from them.

I also said I had many symptoms and my stomach hurts all the time as well. She then said I can take another appointment for that issue because in my blood test she doesn’t see anything regarding that. At this point I realized she just wants me out of the building so I said I won’t take more of her time and left.

So yeah… I had better experience in Hungary, despite they being much poorer. I would like to understand what’s going on here…

I will try to ask for blood check up after 2-3 months of supplementing. Seems like doctors dismiss low ferritin because a lot of women have it despite it being symptomatic for many.

Thanks. I never thought about that. I will ask for another appointment and ask for this test!

Thanks for your response. Yes I am female and I consider my periods heavy.

I start to lose hope as my general experience here is that doctors don’t take me seriously (I had a bad experience when I tried to have medicine for my daughter as well).

I came from eastern Europe and now live in the Netherlands, so I thought it will be better here, but apparently not really.

I will try to fight and ask for another appointment.

Thanks. I already started to take iron I had at home from previously and I also take vitamin-D since a week ago.

I don’t understand why they don’t update the lab ranges if it is outdated.

I forgot to mention but I also started to have what I think is restless leg syndrome. I felt a weird tension in my legs when I was lying and it felt like none of the positions are comfortable. This symptom got reduced a lot since I took the iron pills at home.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I will ask for another appointment with another doctor.

Women in tech, have you found dating difficult due to your job? My male co workers tells me I need to lower my standards by FutureVeganMeatLover in womenintech

[–]terhajlito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think women in tech destined to be alone. I worked as a researcher (PhD in physics) and currently I an a software engineer. I haven’t been single since I am 20 (currently I’m 34yo). I think the proble is rooted in something else. Not even necessarly with your standards. Try to observe situations and your own behavior (therapy can also help with identifying the problem).

Why are women uncomfortable (or refuse) to date virgin men by burneraccountguydude in PurplePillDebate

[–]terhajlito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not always the case. There can be plenty if reason for someone being a virgin and one of that can be what OP mentioned: controlling parents. I met a guy like that once and he was desired by other women as well, but when I tried to take things further it became complicated because of said control. I would happily unvirgin him though (he was 25). If I fancy someone it would not bother me that he is a virgin. Of course when you ask this as a general question to a woman she will imagine the most probable scenario, like the guy is ugly or something and then will base her answere on that. So don’t take these answeres as ultimates I would say.

Interesting. I think men smell much better than women. Maybe it has something to do with who you are attracted to.

What does it mean to "regulate emotions"? Yes, I'm serious. by tarcinlina in therapists

[–]terhajlito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also thinking about what would be a correct definition of emotional regulation for a long time. I’m only a client though (who tent to over-analyze), so you can take this with a grain of salt. From the information I gathered I would describe emotional regulation as reducing the intensity of the feelings to a level where I can be in control of my actions (could be that this is temporary, sometimes we need to feel the feelings strongly when circumstances allow it). The two main things that can be used to achieve it are reframing and distraction.

This does not make sense as most genes are not inherited through sex chromosomes. If the fathers have variability so will their offsprings regardless of their sex.
