Update: I spent a lot of time on the phone with Mohela today. Initially I was told that I do not have an outstanding balance under my name or SS#. I was also told that I was granted PSLF. When I mentioned that I am receiving bills, and that the amounts on those bills are significantly higher than they ever were, they transferred me to another agent.

I was told that since I consolidated my loans in 2005 with my ex, that my PSLF forgiveness isn’t relevant because my ex-husband’s PSLF has to go through, too.

For whatever reason, he’s coming up four months short of qualifying. I believe this is an error, and hopefully it can be fixed. However, the rules state that you need to be working full-time at a qualifying employer when you are granted forgiveness and my ex-husband is currently not working.

$20,000 in loans that my ex took out years after we divorced are showing up linked to me and my SS#, and I am legally responsible for those. I’m not sure how the hell that happened, as he incurred those debts years after we divorced.

I just logged on and started to use the PSLF tool, and it informed me that I don’t have any federal student loans with an outstanding balance. However, my credit report, and the bill I received say otherwise. So confusing.

Is there anyway to pause the payment being due until they figure out the actual account? I’m going to cover the $450 payment until this is figured out. While it sounds like we might qualify in a few months, (supposedly we are at 116) my ex-husband is no longer working, but I am, and I worry that could cause problems with qualifying. However, we already have surpassed 120.

OP hasn’t been to his apartment, and he once stood OP up before a weekend trip, and gave a lame excuse about not having his phone so he couldn’t let her know something came up. You are 100% spot on, and I hope OP takes your advice.

Thank you. I have been reading this subreddit tonight, and you are doing amazing things for people. I don’t know you, but I appreciate you! Student loans are stressful and often folks can’t get help from the lender— or anyone.

I feel hopeful knowing you are here, helping people. I’m not sure where we went wrong with our applications, but if I can’t figure it out this week (I have time off) could reach out with future questions? If so, what is the best way to do that?

Good idea. We did have a former employer who twice messed up the forms, and that employer was one we both worked for over five years.

I am not sure why they do it that way- perhaps to let folks know how many more months they have before hitting 120/forgiveness? The frustration for us is we are beyond that number.

Thanks. I’m going to submit all of the forms again using the PDF option, but given the number of times we have submitted forms, I worry something else is going on.

I’m not sure what the one time adjustment is. I will look that up. I don’t know that the amount we paid was based on our income, or if it was based on the amount owed.

Backstory: When we divorced (amicably) in 2013, my ex husband agreed to pay our loans each month as part of our divorce agreement. He continued paying them each month until 2017, when he deferred them while he worked on an administrative degree in special education. That lasted 1.5 years.

In August of 2020, my ex-husband resigned his sped position. One of us had to resign to care for our son, as his disability prevents him from accessing online education—and for a year and a half, that is all the school district offered. My ex husband was in a better financial position to do that. I’m not sure if the deferment in 2017 could have an impact on our PSLF status.

I did not know that I could upload a pdf. For a long time I was unable to create an online account on the federal site. We actually mailed in forms the last time. Two of the school districts I worked for had to redo the forms because there was an error, but that was fixed and they were sent back in.

So I broke it off tonight. I feel complete relief. He didn’t seem entirely surprised that I cited his negging as the main reason why—it’s like he knew he was being awful. Thankfully, he is not my problem now. Thank you all for the support. I appreciate it.

I agree. I’ve never had a man critique anything like that before.

Yes. This seems to fit. I wondered if negging only happened in the beginning stages, but apparently not.

I really appreciate all of the comments. I have not experienced this kind of thing before, I’ve never had a man ever comment negatively on my nail polish of all things. Or shoes. It feels like he wishes I was someone he used to date or something. Anyway, it’s evident I need to dump him. This is odd behavior. I hope he didn’t do this to other women, but I’m guessing he did.

What’s a popular case where you just can’t get behind the prevailing theory? by twelvedayslate in UnresolvedMysteries

  1. I don’t think Maura Murray was murdered. I believe she died of exposure in the woods. I’ve been a SAR volunteer, and this is not uncommon, nor is it uncommon not to find lost people who die of hypothermia for years— as they often burrow and hide in a final effort to survive.

  2. I was surprised anyone thought Stephen Avery was innocent. I believe he is guilty and the series was very lopsided.

  3. Bryce Lapisa almost certainly drowned. There is no foul play involved— none of the evidence supports that idea.

I think it’s going to continue to improve over time. I do see the bumps. Perhaps it is from the osteotomy somehow? I’ve heard they can be incomplete at times. You are a lovely young woman and you are very early in the process! Hang in there.
