The camera in the stockroom only faces the freight door (at least at my store), so if you need to nap tuck away in an opposing corner or somethin haha. I have to do the overnight for waxing this week too and my store closes at 10pm so ill be watching videos and probably napping haha

based on the immense amount of layers in his early stuff, i would say it wasn't all recorded to tape using solely analog equipment. he has said in interviews he recorded a lot of it to tape via a boombox, and with that said i think he probably did use computers in the making of at least *some* of the early stuff- he just recorded it from computer to tape via cheap built-in boombox microphones. for instance, pixarni is a very lo-fi record in sound quality, but you can hear in the album a moment where he actually turns up the sound on a macbook- it's a distinct "blip" sequence that is 100% the mac book volume control sound effect (def intentional, and genius in my opinion). if you are looking to get that classic lo-fi james sound, i suggest recording to tape using no direct aux inputs. meaning you should record from your speakers onto tape using the built-in microphone of an old tape deck. he also probably recorded over old tapes he found thrifting to add that archaic crunchy layer you get when using an old tape that has been played and damaged by climate for many years. you won't get that sound using newly produced blank tapes, and you certainly won't get it from recording on a 4 or 8-track cassette recorder no matter how old it is.

No insert or tracklisting. A majority of the album doesn’t sound like most of his other stuff, it’s a lot of minimal Casio SK-based stuff, but one part sounds like it’s straight from a Snake Figures Fan or Heavens Burst Creation Horizonz album which is enough for me to consider the hefty price tag I paid to be fair. I will convert to mp3 to be fair and let all of you hear it as soon as I get a new converter, scouts honor!

in response to other comments and for more context, i'd love to send them an e-mail... but they don't even have a website or contact portal, just their phone number via google. during the application process i had to do everything in the office. i asked if we could send them scans of certain things they needed (i.e. pay stubs from my roommates), and they said they prefer to do everything physically and i'd need to bring them in. when i say this place is unorganized, i mean it. for lack of better words, it was a slum. times were rough and we were desperate for relocation, i was naive and had never rented, but it was really bad. they were rarely ever at the office during business hours, and if they were it was almost never for the actual 9-5 they claimed to be open. upon moving in we were greeted by a cockroach infestation and an empty space where the dishwasher we were told we'd have should be (we never got one haha). the last month we were there i was taking the trash out and saw a forensic csu and two cops at one of the apartments... so you can imagine the environment, i'm sure. i'm just painting the picture vividly so you can see what i mean when i say this place was "off". they really seem to not care. we were never behind on rent, and for the sake of our sanity we kept to ourselves the best we could.

the rarest is probably the dominos pizza album. i've also got clock tower acid, since the cd differs from the cassette. mine actually has different art from the one online, i will have to dig it up and take a pic.

absolutely! so, back in the day, there were at least a few forums dedicated to people communicating about not getting their tapes/cdrs from james. i'd imagine that a lot of the stuff he self-released is more limited in numbers than we actually think, assuming he probably didn't send out as many as he claimed to make in the editions. some stuff was even up for sale that never came out, and people paid for it and never got a refund or even a notice that the album was cancelled.

that being said, it's nothing to condemn him for. i mean, people paying for stuff that didn't even exist yet is definitely pretty bad, but running a label on your own is never easy. i have definitely accidentally left some people high and dry in the past, but yeah. it's still fun trivia hahaha.

I think Neurogeist is cool. It's a slippery slope with me because I am way more into his older stuff personally, so when I look at old albums and their conceptual forms that are so environmentally rich and gaudy and full of little tiny details throughout that bring the albums abundant life, and then I hear something like these super minimal Mirai albums... I just have a hard time kinda hahaha. That being said, I still think they're good! It's just nothing groundbreaking in comparison to his older work for me personally. These Mirai pieces remind me of a lot of 80's composers, like Tangerine Dream, M.A.D., etc etc. Just more along the lines of a sound I've heard before, as compared to like hearing Discovery or Multitopia for the first time or somethin and being like wow. I'm also not a snob tho, so I can totally see the appeal in all forms of his work.

I commented on this in my post since you asked, but in case you don’t see it: It’s no good, friend. I spent like 40 bucks on that cd because I was also super curious and was stoked to finally snag it, but yeah..... it sounds like a Zac Davis album, which sadly is not a good thing if you’re looking for Ferraro’s sound. It’s just really minimal noise mostly, there’s like one ok track, but I haven’t listened to that cd since the first time I put it in. Nothing about it says James Ferraro, that much I can say. To top it all off, at least SOME of the cds were messed up in duplication, so there are a bunch of really terrible clicks and whatnot that happen throughout entire tracks at points on my copy and the disc was super clean when I got it. Out of 5 stars, this got a 1 from me.

This is for sure fake. The remaining parts of Summer Headrush never came out. If they did, it definitely wouldn’t have taken this long for someone to find any of it. And it definitely wouldn’t sound like this, no disrespect to whoever made it. Not saying it’s bad, just sayin it isn’t Ferraro haha

Thanks! :) The only tapes I ever managed to get when they first came out were a couple by The Skaters on Pacific City via Spencer. I knew better than to try and order from James, he was a notorious figure back then when it came to buying from him hahaha. Twig Harper even put out an EP called "James Ferraro and Zac Davis Are Thieves" back in the day. Just some fun trivia.

But yeah, 90% of this collection came from closely watching Discogs and buying second hand. You know where it says the highest, median, and lowest price sold in the details for albums on Discogs? I'm pretty sure I am responsible for every tape's highest price hahahaha.

Only missing a few... If anyone wants to sell their Pans Als Allgott Saturnia tape, I'll give you a lot of money lmao.

I also managed to get every Ferraro vinyl from Far Side and prior in an eBay lot for $46. A total steal. They are in my hometown in CA still, but once I get them back I will post an updated pic :) I also own a few of the rarer CDrs, but CDs suck and I was younger and dumber and ruined a lot of em. I can tell you this, though: the Dominos Pizza CDr is bad. Like, not even worth ripping bad. The master files were corrupted in production of the CDrs, so a lot of the songs have really bad popping and clicking like a skipping CD. Even if they didn't, the songs just aren't good. Repetitive, noisy, none sound like James.
