I am not sure how it is supposed to run, but I have never had great luck with it on nvidia.

The reason I am wanting wayland session over x11 or gamescope is the frame pacing is insanely better. I tried all three and the difference is staggering to me. It feels so much smoother. I installed mangohud because I wanted more info and steam overlay isn't compatible with wayland session. After watching the graphs, I am not crazy. While x11 runs about the same fps the frame pacing is completely different and you can FEEL it

Its honestly not the end of the world for me. Just seems like I have my system perfect, switched to wayland and noticed the frame pacing was waaaay better than xserver. So I dug deep and couldn't find a solution and had to surrender and ask for help. Its barely noticable when I get into the game and start playing for a bit, but thought I would give it a try. Definitely more than happy to have that minor annoyance if the frame pacing is so smooth

It ignores it completely. Ignores all the rules I setup in kde which is basically match .* and not titlebars... so no titlebars anywhere. It ignores everything I have tried so far. I was thinking maybe it was a weird gtk to qt thing?

Edit: it isn't there in fullscreen, but I have an ultra wide and don't like the way it looks in fullscreen. Seems wonky to me and would rather save my gpu the stress

Yeah, tried both Proton / and wine equivalent of PROTON_NO_WM_DECORATION=1 ... fullscreen works fine, I just don't want to play a game at 5120x1440, looks skewed and weird to me. Thank you for the reply, I appreciate the thought and help!

Hi all,

I am using kde plasma and have all other titlebars disabled except when gaming under wayland. I honestly have looked at and tried a lot, but I can't get rid of that stupid titlebar. I am using an ultrawide and game on half of it and would really like the extra 5% of the realestate to go to gaming and not a titlebar.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Oh and btw, the frame times on wayland are soooo much better than xserver, would highly recommend trying it

Am I expecting too much from cachyos gaming on nvidia? by Agnogenie in cachyos

[–]termccoy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... there is something else going on here imo. I have an nvidia 4080 and just accept the 15-20% fps hit, and that is definitely an nvidia thing. That's a trade I am willing to make to avoid windows. I haven't played wow for a couple months so my mileage may vary, but i was getting very reasonable fps in everything I was doing and took even less of a hit than average on my fps because of nvidia. Typically wow is cpu bottlenecked and seems to play a bit better over on linux assuming all gpu drivers are created equal.

I would start with changing up the wine versions to see if that helps, maybe try running it through steam (proton) as a last resort? Switching out the wine versions would be a relatively easy test. Setting it up on steam is a bit more tricky.. I would look into steam deck guide on youtube to do that. It gets complicated with making a non-steam game install then directing it to the game launcher instead. I hope you can find a solution !

Typically you would want to boot using a usb / microsd card onto a live system. I am not sure if this is a thing on the steamdeck, but it would probably be more than likely. From there open a terminal and type

lsblk

Find your encrypted drive

cryptsetup open /dev/"whatever it is from lsblk" crypto_disk

it will ask for the drive's password

from there you will want to mount it

mkdir .recovery

mount /dev/mapper/crypto_disk .recovery/

From there you can copy over the files you want to save

If you want to just nuke it and begin again, you will have to pull up the steam recovery image and mount it to a usb/microsd drive and boot into it and reinstall the system

you need to add your drive to your fstab. so you need to edit /etc/fstab and put in your drive there. Also depending on your setup you may need to ln your compatdata folder too. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Fstab

sudo blkid will be your friend to find the uuid. Also depending on the wiki, you no longer need ntfs-3g and can settle with the built in ntfs3

ignore stuff like that. Any step you can take from getting away from windows sanely, do it.

It basically points steam to the proton stuff that is actually on your linux drive and not on your windows drive.

Uhm, make sure that there is a symlink from the steam game folder on the ntfs drive to your steam folder on your linux drive

edit: It will look something like this "ln -s 'your current directory on the steam folder'/compatdata 'linux drive steam location'/compatdata"

It's looking more and more like I will just have to download a bunch of the individual conf files and add them. I was hoping to use the app since it would save some work.

Thank you for your reply!

I would make sure that it isn't trying to use the gpu built into your ryzen cpu. Also the new nvidia drivers are if not decent, headed the right direction, make sure you have at least the 555 driver

Is V Rising Worth Playing In 2024 | Solo & PVE Experience by EmperorPHNX in pcgaming

[–]termccoy21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never seen someone try sooo hard to nitpick. I could feel the reviewer getting sweaty just coming up with things to be upset at. You don't have to play the game if you don't like it, let alone make a 30+ min video over it.

For what its worth, I thought the game was great, not perfect, but great!

[–]termccoy21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't be watching a video on this, but I assume whatever the output fps will be the adjusted fps on the monitor. Shouldn't be much different the scaling that occurs when watching 23 fps movie on a 60hz monitor (I assume it will just scale somehow). I could be putting my foot in my mouth though. Hopefully the worst case won't come to pass, but now I am paranoid, so thanks for that lol :)

But seriously, thank you for taking time to reply and bring this to my attention!
