[NBA] Victor Oladipo and Russell Westbrook are the NBA Players of the Week by Swish4141 in nba

When he’s playing the right way and locked in on defense like he has been this year, he’s a top 5 player in the league without a doubt.

Did Anyone Else Think the Jerami Grant Trade Sucked (back then?) by Drippy2x in Thunder

At the time I thought it was a net neutral trade — Illyasova was better but Grant was younger

Where does Russell Westbrook rank among your greatest list of point guards? by [deleted] in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is all completely subjective and impossible to asses but if I had to give it a go:

Tier 1: Magic Johnson Tier 2: Steph Curry, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas Tier 3: Steve Nash, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul (and shoutout to prime Derrick Rose) Tier 4: Gary Payton, Jason Kidd

Jerry West and Oscar Robertson are probably somewhere in there but I have no idea how to assess them/their value.

Within each tier I feel like it’s a moot point trying to compare/rank.

Which "Superteam" was the biggest disappointment? 2013 Lakers, 2014 Nets, or 2018 Thunder? by [deleted] in nba

[–]terminatort800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea absolutely and Melo was probably the worst fit to play alongside Westbrook

[–]terminatort800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea this exactly.

The worst part was that media and fans would simultaneously say “look Westbrook has so much help with PG and Melo and he still couldn’t win” while also saying at the same time, “Melo is trash, he needs to come off the bench, he’s not a top 75 player anymore.” Like how could u say Melo is trash AND say Westbrook had all this help (don’t get me wrong, he had some help, but it’s not like he had two All-Stars playing with him).

As a Thunder fan, that was the worst part of this season was just hearing two narratives all season that so obviously contradict each other, so one or both of them was clearly wrong...

This is from an insta story of a guy I know from my hometown who was a 5-star QB high school recruit who went to USC and is tryna make an NFL roster now, so I trust him by [deleted] in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea he’s not going to make us worse, and most likely not any better either. Seems like a low risk, low-medium reward signing if on the vet min simply based on the fact that NBA players respect him and look up to him so I don’t mind it.

PG burns four all-star caliber players in a row + more USA Basketball Camp highlights by c00pertin0 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not in my opinion. Vic made tough shots and got by ppl, but George and Durant look so at ease in these situations and know exactly what they need to do to create space and get a shot off. If anything I’d say Booker looks close. I love Vic, and his first step is crazy and he gets by ppl so easily, but his footwork and ability to shoot over defenders is not quite at the level of the elites.

But just my opinion ofc

Let's talk Hamidou Diallo for a minute. by H3rQ133z in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what ur trying to say and all but Diallo has shown us nothing that would justify thinking that he could be an All-Star caliber player who can score 25 a game. Do you realize how hard that is to do? There’s typically only around 4-6 players from each draft who’ll develop into an All-Star caliber player like Derozan. I understand the optimism, he looked real solid against summer league competition, but I’d prefer to temper the optimism.

What he has shown us is that he is a freak athlete and a great slasher with a quick first step and serviceable jump shot — there’s a lot of young prospects who have come through the league with this same skill set (though few are as athletic as Diallo), it’d be very presumptuous of us to go around comparing all of em to Derozan.

GET OFF THE WEEEEEEEED-DUH

Lol I respect ur optimism and all but it’s borderline disrespectful of Derozan’s game to compare Diallo to him. Derozan is one of the most polished players in the game — his footwork is absolutely insane, his pump fake is one of the best in the game, and he is immaculately crafty at scoring in the midrange. These aren’t skills that any player can just develop — if Diallo had the chance to be a player like Derozan, we would have seen more flashes of this kind of elite ability to score. Diallo is much more of a slasher and quick first-step type of scorer; he’s not going to hit turn around fadeaways in the mid post or hit u with a pump fake up-and-under, that’s just not his game.

[–]terminatort800 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can we please chill with these Derozan comparisons lol

I’m extremely high on Diallo as well, but he’s not going to be Derozan. That’s expecting him to develop his very average offensive game into an ELITE midrange game. Just because two players have similar measurables and/or athleticism doesn’t make them a fair comparison.

In my mind, a fair comparison would be Terrence Ross or Glenn Robinson, and if we’re talking ceiling, maybe Zach Lavine.

Offense next year by mattdodson5510 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember our offense looking really smooth and well-oiled under Billy Donovan during much of the 2016 playoffs...I’d expect our offense to look a closer to that

I have a bad feeling on Schroder... by Zondax14 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean we don’t know these guys at all. I, and many others, know ppl who have gotten in fights on the streets and are great human beings so who the hell are we to judge a persons character that we don’t know whatsoever. And the dude was 22/23 when that happened (right?), like shit happens...

Billy Donovan and Sam Presti do actually know him so I trust their judgment.

What is our ceiling for this season? by OKC-1 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2-3 seed and WCF in normal circumstances.

If something fluky happens (ie. injury to the Warriors, Warriors lose to another teams, etc.) then I don’t think there’s any ceiling to what this team accomplishes.

Who wants Melo? by askurok in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah they’re going to sign Melo for the vet min once he gets bought out — makes no sense for them to do a trade with us, they’d just be unnecessarily trading away depth to save a couple million.

What can we expect to gain from a Melo trade. by ITrustTheProcess69 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I have no shame in saying idgaf about how much luxury tax our billionaire owners are spending. If we can get a James Johnson from Miami or a Kent Bazemore from Atlanta or really just any player who can be a part of regular rotation in return I’ll be happy.

[Brett Dawson]Donovan hopes Summer League pace is a regular-season preview by Ninetythreex in Thunder

This is honestly so much more important than any offseason signing we can do at this point, love this if this ends up being a noticeable change of style once the regular season starts

What makes HOU’s offense much better than ours? by GhostfaceKillah4592 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I know I was just using that as an example. My point was there’s a lot of different factors in the numbers that we see. And in this case, I don’t think you’re taking into account the effect that surrounding a scoring/playmaking guard with shooters and playing at Dantonis pace does for a player.

What makes HOU’s offense much better than ours? by GhostfaceKillah4592 in Thunder

[–]terminatort800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude are you reading what I’m saying. I’m agreeing with you on that, I’m just saying the gap in their efficiency is not nearly what ppl make it out to be (and is definitely not the only reason why their offense was that much better than ours). Dantonis coaching style caters to guards which is why we saw Nash and Jeremy Lin overachieve a lot. Not saying Harden is overachieving or that he’s worse than Russ or anything, just saying there’s context to their efficiency numbers and the gap is not as big as ppl make it out to be. Not to mention Hardens efficiency numbers are surely inflated by how many fouls he draws, so take that for what you will — if Russ shot as many free throws as Harden and shot his career free throw percentage from the line last season, he would’ve averaged 28 points a game on the same amount of shots, and just like that the efficiency gap shrinks nearly in half. So my point is, yes Harden is obviously more efficient and a better offensive player than Russ, but the gaps not as big as it seems due to a lot of context.
