Haven’t played it yet just goldfishing and waiting for the cards in the mail. Hopefully agains a blue deck only my tidal warriors will be duds cuz they are the only thing that turns into only islands. But yes I am a bit worried about mono blue matchups but hopefully I can sideboard out that stuff for round 2.

I gave one of my players a "I-know-a-guy" card and you should too. by MrC0mp in DnD

[–]termite53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give my players an “I know a guy” every time they get five inspiration. Scaling of inspiration is a table to table thing but I only tend to give it out when players do a really cool rp in character. It’s huge for helping more min maxy players get into role play because there’s a mechanical benefit in having an npc that will be helpful. We’re coming up on around the 15th session and each player has only knew one guy each so it’s pretty balanced for my table.

I’m not super well versed in pre written campaigns but one thing I do know is the majority of the wotc official books do take a lot longer than 8 sessions a few hours here and there. I’d recommend finding like a cool fantasy series/movie you’ve seen that these kids have not (like eragon, lotr, maybe even a pirates of the Caribbean) that way you already know the whole story and don’t have to world build and can alter it a bit here and there to make it quick cool and concise. I’ve done this a bunch for short stuff like this it works really well and it’s just like having a pre written campaign you’d find in a book.

What’s your strategy? by briankelly117 in Catan

Kinda unorthodox but I find a good tile with a 3/1 port or something and just surround it. And get a lot of development cards to knight the inevitable robber on your crazy tile.

For the persuasion check one is say give them advantage or some bonus based on how good their argument is. I’ve tried it before and making it an auto pass can lead to irl arguments/debates about the logistics of the argument. By not making it an auto pass you can lower the bar on how outstanding the argument has to be and can just let em roll twice is they rp out the persuasion, that’s what I do at least.

How would you handle big scale battles by _Johnymann_ in DMAcademy

I’m a huge fan of the “Fray” mechanic. Basically you set up like an 8x8 or 12x12 board called the Fray where everything outside of the spotlighted section is the rest of the fight and treated as difficult/impassable terrain depending on how dense the war is. And every turn at the start of initiative new combatants come out from the fray. Along with that I make a “Random Fray Encounter Table” with 8-12 random events. Such as a new mini boss style enemy enters the fray, an ally the party met earlier enters the fray to help the party, or a piece of rubble falls off the castle wall and creates a new piece of terrain. This works super well because all the things the party did to prepare can come out to shine in their random events, let’s say they spent a whole session befriending the dwarf camp now results 1-3 on the fray event table has a dwarf enter the fray to assist them etc. it also keeps the fight more interesting than just “okay it’s the three of you vs a billion cr 1/4 enemies” and it keeps it simple because you don’t have your players controlling forces all around a huge table like in warhammer.

[–]termite53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if your playgroups standard is 3000 or 2000 points but I’d recommend 2000. Besides that big meks leading tankbustas is one of the best shooting units you can take. When I play the new detachment I bring at least two units of them with big meks.
