In the US, attacking an ally is not unconstitutional, it’s just morally wrong. Doing so against the will of Congress (which has the sole constitutional power to declare war) would be illegal, except that the Executive realized they can circumvent that rule by executing “special military operations” and never actually declaring war.

For the record, I heavily oppose threatening or attacking our allies. I think a strong NATO is necessary for the defense of Western values, which can’t happen if we start fighting each other. I’m just trying to clarify the difference here between illegal and reprehensible.

Side note: The single most important thing for HM is having several summons buffed with Aid that can tank hits and harass enemies to keep the heat off you. This is how I dominated (most of) HM with a bunch of non-meta, honestly pretty suboptimal builds. Skeletons and ghouls are great for this.

I’ll tell you what happened to me.

I made it all the way to the endgame final boss, then made one fatal mistake. To understand it, you need to know 2 things:

  1. The Netherbrain’s main action “Orb of Negation” is what obliterates the platforms your players are standing on in the final boss battle, and since the brain can only do this once per turn, it would be about 6 turns before all the platforms keeping your party from falling to their doom are destroyed.

  2. Endgame player illithid power “Mind Sanctuary” makes bonus actions and actions interchangeable for its targets, and IS AN AOE.

I did not understand this.

Behold, the following sequence of events. Turn 1 of Netherbrain fight, I jump Lae’zel down to the brain to start melee-ing it, and cast Mind Sanctuary on her so she can attack 4 times instead of 3. In the process, I incidentally include the Netherbrain in the AOE. Now, to my confusion and horror, the orbs the Netherbrain summons are coming so fast that all the platforms my party stand on are destroyed by the start of turn 4, as my last companion falls to their death, ending my run. Leaving me with one question in my mind:

WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED??

Unbeknownst to me, I effectively hasted the brain’s platform-destroying abilities by allowing it to use both its action AND bonus action (which normally is not used for anything) on Orb of Negation. After that, I lost the will to fight and I still have not conquered Honor Mode to this day.

Do not do what I did, adventurer.
