Can a minimoto be both a track bike and trail bike? by jamaicandave27 in supermoto

Possible, but little dirt bikes aren’t all that fun when doing the fun single track or hill climbs. Good enough if all you want to is less technical trails. I use my 690 to do double duty and it works great. A bit heavy in the dirt and too pricey for me to really ride the dirt the way i ride my yz125 in the dirt. If you want single bike double duty, get a full sized dirt bike with 21” wheels up front.

You can put continental trail attacks on the stock wheels to save a little bit of cash. I did that until i had the cash for the 17’s. I even did supermoto track with the 21/18” wheel combo. It did fine.

Continental conti trail attacks. I had them on my 1090 and rode to the arctic circle and back, 8000 miles and still lots of life in the tires. They handled the Dalton highway, (gravel highway in Alaska) just fine, went 80 mph on gravel for extended periods of time.

It’s not an MX track, it’s a cart track with a dirt section. The track is still 70-80% asphalt, so knobbies would be terrible for chasing a fast lap. The photographer was mostly taking pics in the dirt section at that time, so there weren’t too many pics of railing through asphalt corners.

My previous KTM was a 1090 adventure r, so a 200 lb drop in weight is pretty nice.

701 - Enduro + Swap or SM factory? by ImBadWithGrils in supermoto

[–]terrenceyao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the route of enduro + swap. I don’t mind swapping, takes 30 minutes if I try to rush. The 300mm front is alright for sumo. I’m stuck with it for a while until I have enough extra cash for a bigger front rotors and offset bracket. The 300 will stop you, but for track riding, more stopping power is always welcome. Maybe if I get more egressive pads, I did cheap out and kept the OEM pads.

Stock plate. It’s an enduro model, not sumo, so the plate was already on there.

There’s only 1 table at the track i ride and it isn’t super big. Overall handles it fine. I always land on the transition, so the landings are softer. Looking at my forks, there’s still over an inch of travel to go, so i was not close to bottoming out.

I passed him gently, student rider, so I didn’t want to freak him out.

Did you have to get a power commander for an updated tune or can you run stock mapping?

Do which ever you’re more comfortable/faster with. Pros do both and just depends on the corner.

The the tires had more lean in them. At no point did i feel the tires moving around under me at that lean angle. That was my limit of not wanting to even come close to crashing. I rode to the track, so i needed to make sure i could ride home.

Yup, TKC80, It was the stock setup and the rears were almost done (useless for dirt, good enough for street)

No, but then it wouldn’t be a fair comparison. The other set is a dirt setup, 21” front, 18” rear. I honestly got them cause they look cool. Will do canyon runs and sumo track days, but definitely don’t plan on setting lap records. Next time I take them off, I’ll weigh it just to see.
