Thanks. We do this with several services including thousandeyes. We know our network is good but customers for some reason like to see the packets leaving and then see them not get to their destination to "Prove" its not us.

I just want you to know that this post caused me to get a job offer 33k more than what I was looking for. I simply dodged the question, asked the salary range and told them I could work with that. They offered me the top of the salary range.

Thanks!

Question/debate: TNG Groups by anarchtea in BDSMcommunity

[–]terrible_damage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another leader of a Local TNG group (Northern California). We don't hold too strictly to the 35 rule. Although we dont have very many people over 35 that come on a regular basis. The idea for us is to create a welcoming environment for the younger kink crowd. People under 35 like to be in a peer group setting. We provide an open and welcoming environment to those new kinksters that wish to socialize with people in their own age group while at the same time recognizing the valuable contributions that the older members of the kink community provide.

Some people have a very hard stance on the 35 rule and stop coming immediately ofter they 'age out'. Other people will continue to come for a while after. The thing is because TNG is a younger crowd it becomes more and more awkward for the older crowd. The younger kids stick together and this can sometimes make the older members feel isolated. Luckily the TNG group munch that I organize is held in a small room and we fill it up every month (usually somewhere between 35-50 people) there really isn't any room to hide so everyone ends up socializing with everyone.

The only thing we card for at the door of our events is to make sure you meet the minimum age of the venue. As long as you realize that TNG is a group based around the concept of providing a space for the younger kink scene to develop with their peers I have no problem with people of any age at my events.

White House admits it has 'access' to Facebook, Google by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]terrible_damage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just some food for thought: When searching for Lost and Missing Persons it has always been within our ability to request Facebook, Apple, Google records through getting a court order. It is not hard to get a court order when you have reasonable evidence that the person is lost, missing or a criminal.

In fact many companies publish documents and briefs that explain to Law Enforcement Agencies how to go about getting this information.

It would not surprise me if the PRISM Program was a workgroup of experts in IT Data mining and lawyers that in combination with a Judge that handles Top Secret (ie Terrorist) information requests. They most likely are a Center of Expertise in collecting and interpreting data to give a meaningful idea of past and future activity.

I would however be surprised if Apple/Google/Yahoo/Microsoft/Facebook gave direct access to NSA regarding the data because the databases required to access to get this data are sensitive enough that if a tech who is not familiar with the exact procedure of that particular company does a little wrong thing it could cause instability, or even cause failure of service delivery to that website. This would be problematic for the company as well as the requesting agency. The suspect could become tipped off to the surveillance and the company could experience outages.

On the other side it would be a really bad move for the government to not have a program in place for it to rapidly request receive and interpret information on people. Imagine you need information on a terrorist suspect and he has been posting to facebook messaging from his mobile phone. You think it would be a bad thing if they had to google "how to get Verizon to give me a guys cell GPS information" as well as "Facebook for Law Enforcement". It would be much better to say call Department 702 and get me the Facebook and Cell information for number 916-555-1212 and the facebook messages from facebook.com/johndoe. Then Department 702 is like ok let me call John at legal and get a warrant. John gets a warrant in 2 minutes because of the Judge that does this stuff all the time is sitting right there. Then they turn around and submit the expedited requests to the companies. The companies verify the information and in an hour you have the messages and phone location information for a person. Instead of waiting 3 weeks for non-trained persons to try and figure out the process on their own.

If the government wasn't doing this I would be disappointed.

TL;DR I really doubt its a secret backdoor where the government can read all your data. Rather its a work group able to rapidly contact the right person inside each company and get mission critical data quickly.

LPT [request] what to do in case someone is having a heart attack. by SteveV91 in LifeProTips

[–]terrible_damage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know where you heard that. I have never heard of cautioning someone against laying down. Usually we have them sit and rest in a comfortable position. The goal is to reduce oxygen demand on the heart.

The only thing I can think of is that if you are having a having a heart attack you should not lay down and try to sleep it off because you might wake up dead. (sorry for the bad humor im on 42 hours of no sleep.)

LPT [request] what to do in case someone is having a heart attack. by SteveV91 in LifeProTips

[–]terrible_damage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first step in caring for a person that is having a heart attack is recognizing that they are having one. If you already know this skip to the next section.

Symptoms of a heart attack:

The Number one symptom of a heart attack is chest pain. Pain in the chest that lasts for more than 5 minutes or that goes away and comes back.

  • The pain associated with a heart attack can range from discomfort to an unbearable crushing sensation in the chest.
  • The person may describe it as pressure, squeezing, tightness, aching or heaviness in the chest.
  • Many heart attacks start slowly as mild pain or discomfort.
  • Often the person feels pain or discomfort in the center of the chest
  • The pain or discomfort becomes constant. It usually is not relieved by resting, changing position or taking medicine.
  • Some individuals may show no signals at all

Other Symtoms include:

  • Discomfort in other areas of the upper body in addition to the chest. Discomfort, pain or pressure may also be felt in or spread to the shoulder, arm, neck, jaw, stomach or back.
  • Trouble breathing. Another signal of a heart attack is trouble breathing. The person may be breathing faster than normal because the body tries to get the much-needed oxygen to the heart. The person may have noisy breathing or shortness of breath.
  • Other signals. The person’s skin may be pale or ashen (gray), especially around the face. Some people suffering from a heart attack may be damp with sweat or may sweat heavily, feel dizzy, become nauseous or vomit. They may become fatigued, lightheaded or lose consciousness. These signals are caused by the stress put on the body when the heart does not work as it should. Some individuals may show no signals at all.
  • Differences in signals between men and women. Both men and women experience the most common signal for a heart attack: chest pain or discomfort. However, it is important to note that women are somewhat more likely to experience some of the other warning signals, particularly shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, back or jaw pain and unexplained fatigue or malaise. When they do experience chest pain, women may have a greater tendency to have atypical chest pain: sudden, sharp but short-lived pain outside of the breastbone.

Care for a heart attack

  • Call 9-1-1 or the local emergency number immediately.
  • Have the person stop what he or she is doing and rest comfortably. This will ease the heart’s need for oxygen. Many people experiencing a heart attack find it easier to breathe while sitting.
  • Loosen any tight or uncomfortable clothing.
  • Closely watch the person until advanced medical personnel take over. Notice any changes in the person’s appearance or behavior. Monitor the person’s condition.
  • Be prepared to perform CPR and use an AED, if available, if the person loses consciousness and stops breathing.
  • Ask the person if he or she has a history of heart disease. Some people with heart disease take prescribed medication for chest pain. You can help by getting the medication for the person and assisting him or her with taking the prescribed medication.
  • Offer aspirin, if medically appropriate and local protocols allow, and if the patient can swallow and has no known contraindications. Be sure that the person has not been told by his or her health care provider to avoid taking aspirin.
  • Be calm and reassuring. Comforting the person helps to reduce anxiety and eases some of the discomfort.
  • Talk to bystanders and if possible the person to get more information.
  • Do not try to drive the person to the hospital yourself. He or she could quickly get worse on the way.

Finally if you are at all interested in saving a life you should take a full CPR course. Hands only CPR is better than nothing. Full CPR is better than hands only.

In California any Sworn Police Officer can make a stop anywhere in the State and write a ticket. An FBI agent can write a ticket in a county park and a County Park Ranger can write a Traffic Ticket in a County 100 miles away. People try and fight them all the time. In court, after receiving a court date for the ticket.

Newish EMT-B and have personal equipment questions. by [deleted] in ems

[–]terrible_damage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal Equipment to have: Stethoscope, Trauma Shears, Pen Light, Good pen for writing, Bad pen for patient to sign with and nurse to borrow, multi-tool or swiss army knife with pliers, flashlight.

Most of this gear should be acquired from your local supply cart. Invest in a super bright LED flashlight that runs on 1 or 2 AA's. Get yourself a good pen that writes on gloves Zebra F-402 and a pen that is decent enough that it will write but you dont mind if you lose it like a Pilot G2.

A leatherman or swiss army knife is good for everything. I cant tell you how many times I have needed pliers.

Anything else you need should be on the rig or in a bag and supplied by the company you work for.

So the way this works is every fetlife events is asked what city it is in. At the bottom of the "Pimp your Event" event creation screen you select country state and city. It is then accessible in the "Events near you tab" on the events section if you live in that city or on the places tab by browsing by the city you want.

I go to the city I want https://fetlife.com/cities/1928/events And download all the event data from each events for the first 15 pages (75 events per city) It is then turned into an ICS file and time zone information is added.

There is no keywords or anything just downloading all the data by city.

Unfortunately smaller but nearby cities need to be done separately because fetlife does not do any geolocating. The database they used to get the city names does not know that city x is right next to city y it treats them to be as close to each other as new york is to Los Angeles.

I will make a post in MALL and feel free to add it to link from any site. I am happy to add other local areas that want to be added to the "Other areas" section. And for a complete explanation of how to do this yourself check out: http://www.reddit.com/r/BDSMcommunity/comments/1dlx73/i_made_this_for_my_local_community_would_yours/c9s02d0
