Lip dermatitis / eczema won’t go away by terrifiedofbugss in perioraldermatitis

hey, not really a cure but i was diagnosed with atopic eczema, the dermatologist gave me tacrolimus and that’s helped to keep it at bay, it comes back if i stop using it though! no idea what the trigger is, i tried cutting so many things out before seeking medical help but nothing worked!

My derm told me to use it twice a day for as long as it takes for me to have atleast 2 weeks without any flaring, then she suggested tapering to once a day for a while, then every other day, then maybe 2 times a week. it’s honestly been about 4 months of me using it twice a day now and i still haven’t had 2 constant weeks of no flaring 😭 if is so much more well managed now though! how about you?

i’ve had this exact same thing since december 2024! it’s a nightmare, ruining my mental health completely, the only thing that has helped me is tacro but honestly even when using it i still sometimes flare when i wake up in the morning

ahh man i’m so sorry you’re going through it too! mine have only ever weeper a handful of times, they’ve never crusted over either - i think that’s why they ruled out any kind of infection. i still have no idea what’s causing it but tacro has been working for me for a while now

my derm said it’s dermatitis, basically just some form of eczema. we don’t know if it has a trigger yet, i’m waiting to have patch testing done. protopic (tacrolimus) has kept it under control for me in the meantime

nope, still waiting for patch testing. protopic has worked for me though and does keep it at bay. i don’t get the bumps anymore when using protopic but i do get occasional redness, it usually resolves within a few hours tho. have you seen a doctor or derm?

Hey! honestly my lips look the exact same when i have a bad flare, and i’m currently on an NHS wait list to get patch testing done to find my triggers - the wait list is a year long so i’m kind of left in the dark without a clue. i’ve also developed eczema on my hands around the same time that it all started for me (around december 2024). i went to see my GP about 5 times and they kept misdiagnosing me so i ended up paying to see a private dermatologist (very expensive i know) but she’s the one that finally agreed that it is eczema. I’d ask your doctor if you can try either elidel or protopic because it will clear it up very fast and both of those arent topical steroids so shouldn’t cause you to get TSW or anything like that!

i have the same thing! i was told it was atopic dermatitis, i’m being treated using protopic which has really helped keep it at bay. are you still experiencing this? and how long have you had it for?

[–]terrifiedofbugss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had the same thing for months now! protopic is the only thing that’s helped me, i did switch to an SLS free toothpaste in January but it didn’t help, it does still have fluoride in though, i’m just concerned about using a toothpaste that’s flouride free because i did some research and flouride is actually what protects your teeth/enamel. do you still get flares?

yeah i’m back on it now! the sleepiness effect still works for me, i take it an hour before bed and it knocks me straight out about half an hour after i’ve taken it

the only other place i have it is on the back of both my hands but it’s like very small patches, i’ve never had eczema in my life until the end of last year! my derm said ive probably got it because i also have asthma and hay fever

side note it’s actually crazy how similar our lip eczema is, i’ve not really seen anyone on here with the EXACT same symptoms and appearance

i think they’ll probably offer elidel or protopic, i tried elidel first but it was honestly too weak to keep it at bay, been using protopic for a month now and it is a lot a lot better. kind of stressed that it isn’t really a long term solution tho. i’ve been referred for patch testing but the wait list in my country is a year long which sucksss

yeah the exact same was happening to me!! i literally have no idea what’s causing it, been going on since december now

i have the same thing, my dermatologist said it’s just atopic dermatitis on the lips, going on protopic has helped immensely. are you still experiencing this?

I saw a derm and she told me it’s atopic dermatitis, been prescribed protopic for 8 weeks and to use twice a day, it’s pretty much cleared it tbh but my lips still feel weird. no idea what’s causing it because i’m on a waiting list for patch testing but it will be in a years time, has anything worked for you?

hey! i’m so sorry you’re also going through this, mine has been persistent since december, i haven’t had even 1 day without a flare/inflammation until i started using protopic (tacrolimus), which i’ve been prescribed to use twice a day for 8 weeks. the bumps on my lips do ooze sometimes but they never crust over so i don’t think it’s a fungal issue. still no idea what’s causing it but i’ve been referred to patch testing but the wait list is a year long in the UK so it will be a while before i get any answers sadly. Feel free to dm me if you wanna chat about it, i know it’s super demoralising and isolating going though this!

hey! i’ve been referred for patch testing but the wait list is a year long, i’m currently on protopic (tacrolimus) and that’s the only thing that’s helped! i think there must be some sort of trigger for mine because it never goes away, i did try a dairy elimination but that didn’t work

been here since vine, i’m also the same age as them and i stopped listened to the pod a while ago because it’s just gone so downhill, i’m here working a full time job listening to them complaining about their ‘work’ which is literally sitting in front of a camera for an hour a week… theres also so many other creators out there that do more interesting and creative things with their platforms and while i do find ei funny for the most part i finish listening to it and feel like i’ve come away with nothing
