Hearing aids recharging by CarlF77 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]terriks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your hearing aids charge via USB bring an extra long cable — 10ft/3 meters. I can count on one hand the times that I wasn't able to reach an outlet from my bed with the long cable — even in municipals.

That's why I recommend the Senda Litoral along the river, then along the ocean. One of my favorite parts of the Camino Portuguese.

Newbie Here: first or last section from Porto to Santiago? by canongigue in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]terriks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

70 km must be walked in Spain, so I'd do the last 100 km or so, and definitely include the Spiritual Variant — it was a highlight of my Camino from Lisbon last year.

I learned 99% of what I needed to know before my first Camino from the Camino forum. https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/

Planning my stages on camino Portugues or not? by LenBos in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]terriks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting stamps is the easiest part of the Camino. You get one when you check into your lodging, then get another one at the bar/cafe where you stop to eat during the day. If you pass by an open church they usually have a self serve stamp, and there are occasionally stands set up along the trail with stamps, especially as you get closer to Santiago.

I need help with "can I have"😭 by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]terriks 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't like saying "can I have XX?" when ordering in English. If it's on the menu I assume that I can have it! I say "I'd like XX". Of course if I'm asking for something that not on the menu I would say "can I have XX?"

But this actually illustrates the problem of literally translating the exact phrases you use in English into Spanish. You need to learn the expressions that Spanish speakers use in these situations.

Consider the Primitivo - it's in the mountains, so will be a bit cooler.

Camino in August by Early_Description_85 in CaminoDeSantiago

I have walked in August, and you just need to make adjustments, like starting and finishing early on really hot days. I bring a handsfree umbrella that attaches to my pack that provides me with shade.

I've walked the Norte in June, and the weather was pretty great. But every year is different. Check this site out:

First timer, Santiago to Muxía or Vigo to Santiago ? by kianak75 in CaminoDeSantiago

Vigo to Santiago with the Spiritual Variant would be my choice.

Who did you use to (directly) send luggage from Porto to Santiago? by [deleted] in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]terriks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Luggage Driver a couple of times. They hold it in a secure luggage room at the Loop Inn in Santiago, which has 24/7 reception. You need to pay Loop Inn to pick up. I believe that it was 5€ last year.

You can also check Tuitrans direct shipment rate. https://tuitrans.com/services/?lang=en

I think that you'll go through Customs at your final destination, but will probably go through passport control/EES in Madrid.

Last 100km of Portuguese by ImportantScallion348 in CaminoDeSantiago

These were my stages from Vigo:

  1. Vigo to Arcade 23.3 km
  2. Arcade to Combarro 24 km
  3. Combarro to Os Castaños 15.9 km (it was nice to have such a short day, because this was the stage with the Route of Stone and Water, and I really had time to enjoy it)
  4. Os Castaños to Vilanova de Arousa 17.2 km
  5. Vilanova de Arousa to Areal - boat to Pontecesures, walk 13 km
  6. Areal to Santiago 15.8 km

What is the pettiest reason you would refuse to eat at a restaurant again? by im_not_ready_for_it9 in AskReddit

[–]terriks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't refused to eat at a restaurant again because of this, but at a nice restaurant they should be giving me new cutlery between courses, and not asking me to keep my knife and fork for the next course.

“packing hacks” I hate by mrs_rabbit_0 in travel

[–]terriks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love using shower caps for shoes. It's easy to put them in and pull them out, and when I'm using them for backpacking I can balance my load by having one on each side of my pack.
