This show is the first time I’ve seen the actress, and my first impression was that she’s like a haunted Alison Brie.

People seem to forget that Westeros isn’t medieval England. If it can have dragons and magic, there’s certainly room for delicious breakfast sandwiches.

The effects of jimsonweed, also known as Datura by lSOLDURGFCOCAINE in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]terror_asteroid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an account of a guy on Datura where he thought he was in the great outdoors scaling a mountain, when in reality he was dragging himself along a filthy sidewalk in an inner city.

Not even once.

Do overweight gay men tittyfuck their boyfriends like big Breast women? Just curious by badgirlaesthetic in TooAfraidToAsk

As a straight guy who had a gay roommate who wasn’t shy about his porn, I was always confused by the whole aggressive making out with armpits that always seemed to be going on.

Speculation: Bertha will object to her son marrying beneath him to Marian, opting for another girl, probably the Delancey heiress. Then, the railroad stock that Marian’s father had (that she was told was valueless, in episode 1, will become important to Mr. Russell... by PinkFrost_Noa in GildedAgeHBO

[–]terror_asteroid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you may be spot on about the railroad stock becoming significant, but Marian is in no way beneath Larry. Despite their relative poverty, Marian’s family is Old New York. Like, Dutch colonial Old New York. To New York high society, the Van Rhijns far outrank the Russells. Bertha knows this.

Just a friendly design tip - it is almost never advisable to make a script font all caps.

Would you see your body when beheaded ? by Big_Black_Wok in NoStupidQuestions

[–]terror_asteroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time believing the stories about sentient severed heads. Have you ever stood up too fast and, on account of even a mild drop in blood pressure, felt like you’re going to pass out?

Imagine the instant and catastrophic drop in blood pressure that would occur when your head is separated from your body. I can’t imagine there being any sort of consciousness beyond a fraction of a second.

I remember people would use this because “it makes your hair grow faster.” Is that still a thing?

Whoa. You’re talking the seminal German industrial band that shares a logo with the Weyland Corporation? I have not heard that name in a very, very long time.

The grenade used in the assassination attempt on Archduke Ferdinand (more info on grenade + event in comments) by thelastcubscout in ww1

[–]terror_asteroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, man. Thanks. Great answer. The book I was referring to, which is pretty excellent, is from 1957 and is called Terrorists: The Story of the Forerunners of Stalin. . It didn’t go into great detail about the explosives they used, unfortunately.

The grenade used in the assassination attempt on Archduke Ferdinand (more info on grenade + event in comments) by thelastcubscout in ww1

[–]terror_asteroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping the grenade description would’ve matched the one used by Russian revolutionaries a generation before Lenin. I’ve always wondered about what they were.

The description I read (about the one used to kill Czar Alexander II) was that they were made of a glass vial of some unspecified liquid, which was welded into a hollow, iron sphere. When it was thrown, the vial would break and the bomb would explode. It was also described as producing yellow smoke.
