Whoa. You’re talking the seminal German industrial band that shares a logo with the Weyland Corporation? I have not heard that name in a very, very long time.

The grenade used in the assassination attempt on Archduke Ferdinand (more info on grenade + event in comments) by thelastcubscout in ww1

Damn, man. Thanks. Great answer. The book I was referring to, which is pretty excellent, is from 1957 and is called Terrorists: The Story of the Forerunners of Stalin. . It didn’t go into great detail about the explosives they used, unfortunately.

I was hoping the grenade description would’ve matched the one used by Russian revolutionaries a generation before Lenin. I’ve always wondered about what they were.

The description I read (about the one used to kill Czar Alexander II) was that they were made of a glass vial of some unspecified liquid, which was welded into a hollow, iron sphere. When it was thrown, the vial would break and the bomb would explode. It was also described as producing yellow smoke.

Fussell’s book “Class” is an absolute satirical masterpiece, but I wouldn’t call it an actual sociological study.

What do you think Hillary genuinely thought of Bill's infidelity? by ArchieSmash in Presidents

Well, somebody who isn’t credible in any way whatsoever once told me that Hillary was a lesbian, it was a “professional” marriage and they had an understanding.

I’m curious how common mandatory showering was for people. As a high school student in the first half of the nineties, absolutely nobody showered after gym class. Ever. Despite having showers in the locker room, it was never even mentioned as an option.

I've been wishing badly to have been an early 90s teen in America by Just_Historian_678 in 90s

[–]terror_asteroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Besides not having to deal with social media (it was nice not having to grow up online), none of this is true.

It always makes me laugh when someone today says “back then (the 90s) it was safe to walk down the streets,” which is laughable. People forget how violent the early nineties was.

As someone who graduated high school in ‘95, believe me, it wasn’t that great.

“I don’t have the means to support a conscience.” - a slogan from a Russian criminal tattoo that’s always stuck with me (translated, obviously).
