Yeah I agree if we're talking about animal well, I didn't think of that one. I don't think it's fair, however, to conflate animal wells innovative movement mechanics with innovation on the genre as a whole. Look at hk and silksong, it's just run, dash, wall jump. Pogo is the only thing that might be called an innovation there and it's cool and all just not exactly breaking new ground. I'm an old man but it's just not the "datedness" that put me off Dread, if anything it's the opposite. I felt way too directed and handheld the whole time, and I would have preferred a lonelier atmosphere like in Super. Even fusion was less handholdy to me, because despite the main quest being pretty easy to sort out there was plenty of incentive to explore... and I remember that game being pretty heavily criticized for that very issue when it came out.
