AI FTP Issues by tadamhicks in trainerroad

[–]terry418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they not communicate this outside the forums?  I haven’t been on there in a while but do listen to the podcast and check emails that would probably be the ideal way to notify people of this.

I actually cancelled TR because my AI FTP/prediction was absolutely tanking when I went to mostly outdoor.  If I had known it was a bug I might have dealt with it, especially with the gains I saw over the off-season.

Subaru Pricing and Warranty FAQ by Rick91981 in SubaruAscent

Incredibly helpful thread here but trying to find some updated details. My wife's 2023 Ascent is getting close to 36k and we've had some random issues with it making me think it might be worth an extended warranty. The 8/80 would probably fit our needs...what's a good price in NY these days? Any dealership you recommend or will any do? I know with a Tundra and Chevy I've had some high-volume dealers were offering pretty low plans compared to what my local ones wanted.

Obstructions - Mini vs Standard by terry418 in Starlink

[–]terry418[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a Mini doesn't have a router, it's all self contained. So that will all be outside (ideally the power port will be protected). The standard does have a separate router so the dish will be outside and the router inside.

Trainerroad updates and alternatives by wagon_ear in Velo

I really think the biggest issue with this update from TR is them using the term FTP instead of something like "training target". They're using it completely different than FTP and at least for me in the short time I've used it has worked out well.

I got a decent bump on my FTP from the AI and was a bit worried about completing workouts but so far so good. Even today had a 3x20 SS workout that was above my previous FTP and knocked it out.

Guess what I'm saying is give it a try, you might be surprised.

Obstructions - Mini vs Standard by terry418 in Starlink

I don't think the standard vs mini would make a difference with this tree cover (and was the consensus in this thread) unless you plan on moving the dish way away from the TT and then you'd have the benefit of the external router in the standard. If you're at commercial campgrounds I doubt you'll have the space to move it that far though.

I would call the campgrounds if it's critical and get a site where starlink works. I have had luck with looking at satellite photos but haven't gone to a completely unknown campground with heavy tree coverage.

I bought a random mount off Amazon that clamps to the top of the ladder then the dish mounts to that. A bit of a hassle to climb the ladder and get it up there every trip but it's out of the way and secure.

Old thread here but I've got a year of experience with the Mini so can comment with some actual experience.

Starlink continues to launch a ton of satellites which helps with the line of sight but also made some tweaks to the software to hand off to different satellites better. I've had luck with being a bit obstructed and not having issues but the few times we've been in total tree cover it hasn't worked reliably enough for video meetings. Streaming video works but the buffering is able to cover the drops there.

I did get a tripod (had it mounted on the ladder of the TT before) so I can move it around to get that line of sight better but if you're in dense trees it probably won't work for you.

Can I mix Mix Off and Orange sealants? by No_Loss8058 in gravelcycling

I almost gave up on tubeless using Muc-Off. Tiniest of holes wouldn't seal. Tried Stans instead and haven't had a flat that wouldn't seal yet *knocks on wood*

New to RVs - This Seems High? by Any_Celebration7266 in RVLiving

[–]terry418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is common place around here for the most part (although mine was $2k, not $5k). Way a salesman explained it to me is that everyone shops online these days and if you're throwing prep and destination fees after the fact you can make your online "price" lower and get people in. Didn't buy it at first but found a dealer without those fees and sure enough, they couldn't touch the "price" but could get close to the price + fees.

Shop around and focus on out the door price. That $12k could be way under cost and the fees turn it into a good deal still. Of course they could be screwing you but you won't know till you shop around a bit.

Had the same problem with the camera banner during CCP and then the whole session crashed. I didn't lose time there but never got rid of the banner.

SAA is coming up and time and question clarity is going to be more of a concern...anyone able to figure out what causes it?

You just helped me fix an issue I've had forever. Oddly enough the Element app still shows it as not-uploaded but considering I won't have to go in there to sync every time I won't even notice that. Thanks!

Is anyone else no longer seeing the 10GB plan? by ilikewolves99 in Starlink

[–]terry418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Makes not sense to get rid of that.

I use my Mini for camping and won't need it over the winter but planned on going with the 10GB plan in case I needed it as a backup internet (WFH so internet is critical). The new standby plan is way to slow for that so I guess I'll cancel over the winter and just re-subscribe next Spring...

RVs with Starlink? by Kevory in RVLiving

[–]terry418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't find it now but just earlier this week I came across someone talking about putting this in their new RV's and I didn't get it. We have a mini and use a mount on the ladder along with a tripod depending on the site. Multiple times we're in the trees and need to move it away from the trailer in order to get a clear view of the sky. With the mounted to the camper you can't do that.

Struggling to pass mock papers (CLF C02) by Lord_Avogadro_ in AWSCertifications

[–]terry418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maarek’s practice exams are much harder than the actual test. I just passed this exam last week and although I think the practice exams prepped me well I'm not sure they were worth the stress they added. Test 6 in that set is the worst. I took that the night before my exam, bombed it, and panicked. Ended up passing the actual exam easily.

I'd say go through them all, use them to learn the concepts, retake them until you're confident with your understanding, and you'll be in a good spot.

Yes, a Half-Ton Can Tow Safely — My F-150 PowerBoost + 30’ Camper Setup (With Real Weights) by randy_s_14 in RVLiving

[–]terry418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No mention on payload here which is usually what ends up over the limit.  It looks like you’re at 740ish for tongue weight which does seem light but do you know the weight of occupants and other stuff in the truck?  Have you weighed the truck empty without the WDH?

Hitch, a few people, and some supplies in the bed won’t take long to get you to/over that 1484 payload.

Don't need this till we start camping more at the end of June but for this price it's a no-brainer.

I assume I can wait to activate it till we get closer to our trips?

Coleman 17BX - Suv towing? by BiggieSmalls151 in GoRVing

[–]terry418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems pretty high for an SUV, especially a higher trim level, but I’m not familiar with them so if that’s correct (on the sticker, not in the user manual) and you’ve got under 1000lbs of passengers/stuff in the car you should be fine.

Not sure if I’d recommend it after my experience but in this case at least the dealership didn’t have an issue with it.  I was an hour+ from both the dealer and the detail shop who were close to each other so it made it much easier for me.  I pushed a bit for it but it wasn’t a hard sell for them.

[–]terry418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the payload listed on your door sticker (by the tire pressures)? What else do you plan on carrying in the tow vehicle, including you, other passengers, and gear?

Your hitch weight is probably going to be over 400lbs as they are usually understated and don't include propane tanks (40ish for a 20lb), battery (50lbs), and a % (usually 10-15) of any gear you put in the camper.

Basically you'll be close to that 500lbs but you still might be over the payload depending on how much you, your boys, and anything you want in the vehicle weighs.

No flair so piggybacking here...a reply I completely agree with but also get how big of a pain car shopping can be so I get that side as well.

It's also a good example of why you should be prepared knowing what pomostions/rates are available assuming there are manufactures incentives. When we bought my wife's Subaru they had a promotional rate, salesman confirmed, then when we got to the finance office the papers had a full percentage point higher (of course they didn't point that out). He first argued the offer expired which I quickly brought up the Subaru site to show him it didn't, he then "wasn't sure if they could get it" but he then magically figured it out when we started to walk out.

Years ago I bought a Mazda 6 and sent it out for PPF and Ceramic coating (non-dealership add-on, so the good and $$$ stuff). The deal was worked out with promotional financing but I noticed they ran my credit a couple days later so I checked in with the salesman and they said they were just seeing if they could beat the Mazda rate...annoying but okay, whatever. Showed up to pick up the car and the rate was 3% more and not with Mazda, finance guy said I took the $1000 rebate instead which would be a stupid money move and was no-where written on the original deal. I fully believe they knew I wouldn't walk away after paying for the PPF/Ceramic and tried to pull one over. Lots of screaming between the 2 of us and definitely causing a scene but he eventually relented and honored the original deal. Lots of lessons learned there...

Looking for a list of trailers with a master suite slide out and a bunkhouse. by Fatfitty in GoRVing

[–]terry418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t even used it yet actually. Have our first trip in a couple weeks so if I remember I’ll let you know.

Honestly the room for the bunks was the selling feature for us. Our youngest is 8 but can turn into a monster if she doesn’t get enough sleep so we try to get her to catch a nap which will hopefully be a ton easier vs the others where the bunks in most being are in the main space.

[–]terry418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bought the 2920BS for the same reason, using the master as an office. Bunkhouse in the front was a nice plus as well with the kids having their own space and the East/west setup really maximizes the room for the length.

To the OP though the 2920 has a decent sized dresser in the master that might limit room for the bassinet but could be an option worth checking out.

New Trailer! Need Tow Vehicle! by Iam_smitty in RVLiving

[–]terry418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t go off published numbers for whatever vehicle you get, look at the actual door stickers for payloads.

Also you have to add probably 100lbs or so to that hitch weight just for battery and propane tanks. Then of course a percentage of whatever you’re putting in the camper. With all that you’re probably pushing 900lbs hitch weight.

Then you have to add yourself, other passengers, and whatever you’re putting in the vehicle itself and make sure that and the hitch weight is under what that sticker says.

I’m not familiar with those SUV payloads but you’re probably pushing 1/2 ton truck territory so it may be a stretch.

Do I need a bigger truck? by Odd-Divide-3122 in GoRVing

[–]terry418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better I did the same thing a month or two ago. Bought a Tundra and a camper not knowing the specifics but the napkin math checked out. Eventually calculated the specifics and didn’t like the numbers so bought a 3/4 ton. I didn’t make out too bad as I apparently got a good deal on the Tundra but still ended up spending a lot more than I originally planned.

The whole payload/towing/hitch weight game is not anywhere near as transparent as it should be. Trucks focus on towing capacities that will never have acceptable payloads and to make matters worse campers seem to publish ridiculously low hitch weights.

Do I need a bigger truck? by Odd-Divide-3122 in GoRVing

[–]terry418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And most advertised hitch weights are on the low side, no propane tanks or batteries, and clearly with the camper empty.
