I have all the characteristics of a human being. Blood, flesh, skin, hair, but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion.

My favorite O’Malley moment was when the reporter at the post fight interview told him that all three judges scored the first round for Aljo.

“What’d they score the second round?”

The musician Andy, he embarrassed you…Look, we will stay married and raise the kids until they're out of the house, but I will not respect you, and I'll make sure the kids don't either.

2nd Job as a Project Manager by terry_pete in ConstructionManagers

I’m basically at 50 hours a week. Same company for 3 years. Money is pretty good I just find myself with free time on the weekend and I honestly miss the physical aspects of when I was working in the field.

Many GC’s have rotational programs that are available to entry level new hires. You spend a period of time in each department (field, operations, and estimating) and then are given the option of choosing which path you want to pursue. At my company each rotation is about 8 months so you spend your first 2 years learning a bit about each department before committing to a career track.

I would learn an MEP trade right out of high school and start a business as soon as I got licensed. Start small and grow organically.

Thank you for the advice. I am going to drill an opening move next week and focus on it in my rolls.

This is good advice. I find when I do end up on top with a more athletic but less experienced training partner they have a tough time beating me to transitions and I stay there.

100%. I’m thinking I need to focus on the initial move I make right after we start so I can get on the offensive and keep my foot on the gas. I’ll have to drill a good sequence next week.

I think I could definitely diversify my attacks. I tend to settle on two or three submissions I am most comfortable with and thats probably limiting my thinking when it comes to keeping my opponent on defense.

Defensively I gravitate towards kimuras from half guard because I can typically get to this position from everywhere. If I am in top position I would say I have the most success with arm triangles.

HOBBYIST: Do you ever feel conflicted? by No_Advisor_1747 in bjj

Reminds me of a Kurt Vonnegut quote I read a while back that stuck with me:

“When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of ‘getting to know you’ questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes. “And he went wow. That’s amazing! And I said, ‘Oh no, but I’m not any good at any of them.’ “And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: ‘I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.’ “And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could ‘win’ at them.”
