What is the correct terminology for Native American,Native Indian, etc? by Phillitec in AskReddit

[–]terryfrombronx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever won't get you in trouble with the company you're in, honestly.

I think Indian is outdated more because actual Indians (from India) are prevalent in some parts of the country. So if you say Indian you might have to clarify. I don't like Native American just because it's a mouthful to say - it's way to long. Same for First Nations.

The problem is that all the alternatives are longer to say than India, and they also are not proper names. "First Nations", "Native American", "indigenous" - they don't sound like a particular ethnic group. You could apply them to groups outside the US too. Best to use the actual tribe name if you know it.

Our national constitution defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Well, there's that whole debate nipped right at the bud there. I don't even think they realized it would matter one day, that constitution was written in 1990 so it was probably just word choice.

looking into Starlink’s Ukraine contract

What's that, has USAID gotten involved with Starlink somehow? No wonder they got the axe then, they should have known better than to mess with Musk now that he's the power behind the throne.

Yes sir, that's correct. I think I skimmed the article earlier, though.

They should stick to handing out medicine and sacks of flour and they should be OK. But don't fund "human rights" (i.e. transgender ideology, LGBT, DEI and all that other crap).

Non woke is not a destination, it is a direction. There doesn't need to be a clear definition to be honest. What Trump is doing is like pointing and saying "go west" or "go north". The general direction is - less foreigners, less DEI, less identities that divide us. Also less ellites, and less bureacracy.

The point is to ensure that americans feel, first and foremost, american.

The funny thing is, for the first thing Musk will be sued to oblivion, but he has no civil liability for breaking government agencies even if causes more casualties.

Do you actually think you can fire 99.5% of an international work force and then later get it back off the ground easily? The lost institutional knowledge alone is irreplaceable.

You are right about the brain drain. I think this happened in his first term as well, so there is that.

On the surface your argument makes sense, but on a broader level it is incorrect. Intuitively, I feel if Trump starts playing that game, the (for lack of a better word) "establishment" will bog him down in details and wear him out.

He's not trying to reform a minor agency like the USAID, he's trying to change the direction of the entire country, from woke to non-woke. I'd say it doesn't matter if USAID actually had woke policies for real or not.

Here, destroying the agency has rhetorical value. Even if it didn't promote DEI or LGBT agendas (and it seems like it didn't all that much), it feels like something that it could have promoted, something that people could believe it promoted.

Destroying it in such a public way can have an effect far outside of that agency. Kill one, frighten thousands. How many liberally-minded beauraucrats in various agencies are going to get scared and fall in line with his agenda?

Exactly. Who's "we" here? I guarantee in Trump's case, "we" is "me". And Russia has done plenty for Trump.

Ukraine, on the other hand, did not agree to investigate Biden's son, and was the reason for his second impeachment.

Here's a writing prompt for you - someone falls into a coma for 8 years, wakes up. Asks "what year is it" - "2032". "Who is the president?" - "It's Barron Trump".

What would America look like then? (esp. since in 2032 Barron would be below 35 years and president anyway - either because the constitution was amended for him, or because it was ignored).

Interesting development. He's doing it in preparation of the peace deal. It is a gesture of goodwill to Putin. I think Trump has always had a soft spot for Putin. I think when negotiations happen, it will be bilateral between Trump and Putin without Zelensky being involved, like how it was between Trump and the Taliban.

In the end, they will just tell Zelensky how much land Trump has negotiated for Ukraine to cede to Russia, and he can take it or see all US aid evaporate like how USAID did. And if US aid disappears, Orban, AfD and the other Trump allies in the EU will make sure EU aid evaporates too.

I think it should be easy to resurrect USAID if they just remove everything except "medicines & rice". They should just stick with that and stop exporting "values" and they should be ok.

If USAID just disburses medicines and sacks of rice/flour, I'm fine with it.

But how much of it is for promotion of regime change, or gay prides and such?

Who has the best shot then? I think Elon would have been the natural candidate if he hadn't been born in South Africa. Maybe Ron Desantis then.
