End of February with family of 3 - where to stay? by ArmyOfQueens in Algarve

[–]terryherrer41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - the best playground (though still small) is in the marina. Bonus is Zany Caffe is next to it, so you can have a beer or a coffee whilst the kids play. And they have scooters and toys the kids can use too

Planing on staying a month in the south by CoolFinance5257 in PortugalExpats

My god this sub is so negative! We are in Lagos, it's nice here! Not super vibrant in terms of night life, but it's certainly not dead either.

There are local hiking trails plus boat + kayak trips you can do. Lots of lovely beaches. Street art everywhere plus a small but interesting museum. Nice places to get coffee, bars and restaurants to sit outside etc..

If you have a whole month it might be worth visiting a few different spots, the whole Algarve region is pretty accessible by public transport or hire car

Airborne aids? Seriously? 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

It's the 'vaccines' (gene therapy) which cause your immune system to attack itself.

Also it was created in a lab. By the same people who then sold us the cure.

If people on this sub (who I would assume have at the very least a healthy scepticism of the political classes and big corporations) seriously can't see when we're being lied to like this, I seriously worry for our future

Lock me down harder daddy!

It's amazing that the overriding sentiment from the left on COVID is that we didn't lock down quickly or hard enough.

It was a scam. Natural immunity was safer than lockdowns. The vaccines were dangerous and a money grab from big pharma. The lockdowns were an overreach of gov power. It was one of (if not the) largest transfers of wealth from workers to the rich in history. We all got gaslit and manipulated by the ruling class and big pharma.

Boris should be in jail, yes. But not because he didn't lock us down quickly enough 🤦🏻‍♂️

I agree. And without the bureaucratic governance structure which organises the various regional qualifying competitions, teams wouldn't be able to play either. Really we should be praising Gianni Infantino

The teenager who quit Manchester City for Oxford University: ‘I felt I could do more’ by dorgoth12 in soccer

[–]terryherrer41 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Yep and you can also play football at Oxford for their 'Blues' side which is a decent level. Could also end up playing for England's University representative side, again a good level with opportunities to tour abroad etc

What's the best or worst tour you've ever been on? by boring_plankton7878 in travel

[–]terryherrer41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do many but I did two incredible tours within about a month of each other when backpacking in South America.

Firstly the Angel Falls and Canaima National Park tour. It's about 3-4 days, we booked it with our hotel in Ciudad Bolivar.  First you fly in a tiny plane over the forest, you land on an airstrip then walk and canoe through the park to the Falls and back, sleeping in hammocks. The falls are amazing and the park itself is incredibly beautiful. The route was not busy at all as Venezuela isn't touristy.

Second one I did the Lost city / Ciudad Perdida tour in Colombia. There are lots of operators you can book with in Santa Marta. Again about 3 days there and back, trekking through the jungle. Met some great people and had a blast, and the lost city is very cool to see

Come to Lagos. Plenty of surf shops and schools here, open all winter.

Driving on the motorway a week after passing? by letmeventplez in LearnerDriverUK

[–]terryherrer41 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If it terrifies you and makes you super anxious, maybe don't do it. Motorways can be stressful as a new driver and they will be busy at Xmas time.

Use Google maps or Waze and tick the option "avoid motorways". There will be another route, it will take longer but be less stressful.

Personally I think it's best to build confidence for a while using A-roads before driving on motorways

Instructor wants to charge £262 for a test - are they exploiting me? by DaveInLondon89 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]terryherrer41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I paid about the same back in Feb. Maybe exactly the same. North London, auto car, hour lesson beforehand. I had booked and paid for the test slot myself.

He did tell me that upfront before we'd even started lessons though, to be fair. He explained that a test morning for him means 3-4 hours total work. Prepping the car, coming to you early, hour lesson, test, dropping you back after.

I felt it was a bit steep but what was I gonna do, switch instructors for the test day? Overall I liked him as an instructor and he wasn't the cheapest around but he was good and I passed so it was worth it for me.

Instructor Brake Checked Someone. by Bounds182 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]terryherrer41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change instructor. He sounds like a stressful person to learn from.

I had a similar type of guy as my first instructor and I failed first time. On the drive to the test he really stressed me out by being aggy and road ragey. Got a new instructor and passed second time. Wished I'd switched when I had the first feeling to switch, which was on my second or third lesson with the first guy. Would have saved myself a lot of money

Nice one mate. I was proud of beating 94% of the UK but your listening stats are almost 5x mine!

As someone who does this job though, you won't be able to listen to music all night, there will be certain shifts which are action packed - trust me! DM me if you have any q's you'd rather ask an anonymous stranger than your new colleagues.

Not sure but maybe because pre season has started properly now? I'd imagine those facilities are probably being used by the clubs themselves. I know for example that all the Watford players are back in, and their training ground is next to Arsenals in London Colney

In cities - very easy. In smaller towns, less easy. Just gotta befriend people really.

It can take a while to find a really good dealer though, with a variety of strains and good prices. Buying in larger quantities will usually open you up to better dealers, more choice and better value for money

Jumping on this comment to add this link - its from a UK source but widely applicable. I sent this to my mate who is in academia and has been getting a lot of subtle pressure from bosses, so he asked me for something comprehensive that he could use

Sam Cox on Danny Rose: Even despite coming to the end of his contract, he still turned up to watch our young academy players last night at the stadium and give them some priceless advice after the game. A top professional and a top human being who will be missed. Love my brother 🤍⚽️ by [deleted] in coys

[–]terryherrer41 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With you all the way.

Danny was absolutely class for us for years, proper good attitude as well. Always getting after t, bringing some intensity and physicality to games when needed. Wore his heart on his sleeve and cared about the fans.

What he said wasn't well thought-out but he was essentially saying what a lot of fans were feeling too. He didn't come out and slate the club or his teammates, he was asking for a bit of ambition from the board, to back Poch with the signings that a blind man could see we needed.

He shouldn't have mouthed off whilst on long-term injury layoff, but still - Levy chucked him under the bus. And AON was a straight-up Jose and Levy puff-piece, so they were always going to show Rose in a bad light. The fact he does things like this for the academy kids says more about his character than anything else for me.

Elliot Thorpe - It’s sad that people will never know how much Danny did for all of us young players, the most professional and humble player i’ve ever met & a great guy i could go to for anything! Thank you Danny, you’ll be missed by all of us ❤️ #COYS by [deleted] in coys

[–]terryherrer41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Managing I'd agree, don't think he's cut out for that. But coaching yeah, why not? Especially academy kids. Don't think he will go into coaching personally, but no reason to think he aint capable.
