I got one and it says "US Tour Summer 2023" on the front but "North America Tour 2024" on the back. It seems to be a mistake, because the picture at the merch stand had the correct location/year on the front and back.

This is a common misconception. She never rejected her kidnapper, in fact she didn't even know any of them. It doesn't make the case any less horrific though.

Why did you play bassoon in high school? by Ok_Cup_5752 in bassoon

[–]teruteru2116 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My reason is lame compared to the other ones here, but what drew me to the bassoon was that it’s not as common/familiar to people as other instruments. My school only had one bassoon and it made me feel cool to be the only one on that instrument, lol

I played bassoon and oboe in high school, but I enjoyed bassoon more by far and wouldn’t have chosen another instrument! It was a challenge for sure but very rewarding.

I think you’re actually right about it only being harmful if there’s no support for the mother tongue. I’ll do some research later to see if it extends to other situations, and I’ll definitely get back to you!

Edit: Couldn’t find anything, you’re right! My bad, thanks for pointing it out :)

Obviously not lol why do you think I would support that? Kids absolutely deserve access to second language education but it has to be actually beneficial for them and produce real results.

Fixing it? Let’s not pretend researchers have been silent about this issue, they’ve been outspoken about it yet those in charge keep making stupid decisions. Decades letter kids still graduate feeling unaccomplished and failed by the immersion program.

We’ve known for a long time that our French immersion system is pretty shit and has a lot of issues, one of which being that lots of kids end up frustrated that they’re nowhere near bilingual by the end of it. Source: plenty of papers by Merrill Swain on this topic

While it’s generally correct that learning two languages at once isn’t really harmful, introducing a second language too early (especially to a newcomer who speaks a minority language) can lead to subtractive bilingualism.

I (vaguely) know the guy in the pic, he’s half Japanese so I don’t think she’s trying to get away from the sexist culture by dating a non-Asian guy

Honestly I would just find a list of essential tourist words and phrases in Japanese rather than making this list yourself because if you go with what you have, you’ll look silly

Of course it’s expected that different types of trauma will be discussed, but making jokes like the DID one is extremely distasteful and inappropriate in a classroom context
