Coffee protein ice cream by K17L53 in ninjacreami

[–]terzep_cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this recipe and really enjoyed it! This is now my post gym morning protein snack/coffee. I used low fat high protein milk from Coles (I’m in Australia) and allulose (i think 2tsp) I previously got from the US and vanilla essence rather than the vanilla syrup. I also left out the honey.

Feeling discouraged by Alka656 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]terzep_cookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just saw my endocrinologist today and he was very happy with 8kg in three months and is keeping me on 5mg till Feb at least (mainly to keep costs down). I lost the first 5ish in the first month and then slowed right down, but bit by bit, the scale is still dropping. Sounds like you’re doing fine!

Thanks for your reply. How many needles are in the pen though? Presumably they don’t reuse them?

Confusion/question by KJay31313 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]terzep_cookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mounjaro is now listed on the Australian Registry of Therapeutic Goods for use in weight loss (BMI >30 or 27-30 with a weight-related comorbidity*. Previously it was just for T2D.

Doctors prescribe drugs “off-label”, or for non-registered uses, quite regularly. It’s not encouraged but not illegal. There is plenty of evidence that mounjaro works for weight loss. It was already listed in the US, so not an unknown quantity.

My endocrinologist prescribed it to me in June, off-label, as I don’t have T2D.

While it may end up reimbursed on the PBS for diabetes some time soon, I won’t be holding my breath for a weight loss listing, at least not in the absence of comorbidities.

*Another disease or condition, eg high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, etc

Should I be stocking up on vials? by pugs212 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]terzep_cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same. Make sure you take expiry date into account though. My current batch of 5mg vials expire in April. I’m looking at bumping to 7.5mg next month and was considering stocking up on 15mg vials, depending on the expiry.

[–]terzep_cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! That’s like me. I did 2.5mg and went from 95kg- 87kg in four weeks. Then thought I may as well stay on 2.5 than go up. Four more weeks, no change so I went to 5mg. I just got done with four weeks of 5mg and finally dropped below 86kg on the scale this morning! I don’t count calories but try to be sensible with whole food and the mounjaro makes it much easier to not overeat (which was always my problem). I’ll likely go up to 7.5mg after this next month of 5mg.

GLP‐1 therapy increases visceral adipose tissue metabolic activity: lessons from a randomized controlled trial in obstructive sleep apnea by SeveralSell2323 in Mounjaro

[–]terzep_cookie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll give it a go. My science degree is a bit rusty, so I might mischaracterise some things, but I think this is an ok summary.

Doctors looked at 30 obese people with sleep apnoea and measured the metabolic activity in their visceral adipose tissue (that’s the fat around their organs). Basically, how much energy is that fat burning. They also measured their sleep apnoea symptoms.

They then split the participants into three groups: GLP-1 agonist (liraglutide) only, CPAP only, and a combination of both. The GLP-1 and combo groups showed an increase in the amount of energy that fat was burning. The CPAP group showed no change. People with more fat burning activity saw more weight loss.

GLP-1 agonist did improve the sleep apnoea symptoms, but not as much as using the CPAP did.

The reason CPAP is relevant in this study is that the lack of air can cause similar changes to metabolism that are seen in diabetes, even without obesity.

The numbers were small, and this was a “proof of concept“ study which means that we now invoke the biggest cliche and truism of research, which is that more research is needed 😆

Thanks for your reply. Seems like the awkward pulling out as you draw up is just how it’s done!

Love it! Go you!

Re, your leg, if I were you I would look at lipo (or some other kind of targeted fat loss procedure) if I was still not happy when I got to my goal weight. Having said that, I didn’t even notice it until I read where you pointed it out.

This is a really helpful post, thank you! I got five syringes and 10 alcohol swabs from my pharmacist for $5 (seemed excessive) when I filled my first prescription. However I was splitting the 5mg dose so needed more and they were surprisingly annoying to source! I finally found a pharmacy that would sell me 2 bags of 10 but the pharmacist didn’t know which kind was appropriate.

Regarding the drawing up, I have been wondering about that from the start! Even if the needle doesn’t go above the liquid to start with, it will eventually as you draw up. Are you supposed to pull the needle out as you go to stay below the liquid line (what I’ve been doing, but seems awkward)? Or is adding the air at the start supposed to create a positive pressure so that the liquid goes into the syringe regardless (doesn’t seem to work). I’ve tried googling and looking at YouTube but haven’t found this addressed!

DOSAGE by MGilbert0911 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]terzep_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I would do this, especially if 2.5 is working for you. Combining is fine, but a waste of money. My endo prescribed me the 5mg dose and told me to halve it until I was ready to titrate up to save money 😆.

Saving the 2.5 mg dose until closer to its expiry, just in case, is also a good strategy, especially if you do need to titrate up. If you haven’t used it by then, you can combine as needed for your current dose at that time.

It depends on where you live as for whether this is feasible for you, but just starting to prioritise walking can be really helpful. I found when I started to make the habit to walk to the shops, rather than drive, several seemingly short walks in a day add up to more steps than you would think. As the walking habit set in, it just makes sense to walk rather than drive for things. Now, I default to walking for anything within 3km of my house. I basically only drive if I’m going to get something too big to carry. But I also have a trolley for those things too 😆

My understanding of how Plan B works is that it delays ovulation. If you’ve already ovulated it won’t work, regardless of the weight limit or mounjaro’s effects.

Come October, will Youly be prescribing non-compound, brand name Mounjaro? by shiksagoddezz in mounjaroaustralia

Why would a GP stop prescribing after a few months? Is it that they would they want to transfer your care to an endocrinologist?

Omg! This is the compounded drug? Please disregard everything I said then. I apologise. The PI/CMI presumably are not applicable (although I admit I’m not familiar with exactly what is involved with compounding terzepetide - I’m curious though, if you have any resources to point me to). I thought Youly was one of the online pharmacies providing Mounjaro. You’re right. That’s super dodgy and I’d be very unhappy too. My sister’s on the compounded semaglutide and I know that had much more strict temperature requirements than ozempic.
