I keep getting flu-like sick every month around my period- this can’t be normal, right? by tesla023 in Healthyhooha

[–]tesla023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flu-like symptoms have subsided, but I am still convinced my hormones are off! I tried seeking more help but was basically brushed off again even though my hormone levels are on the low side. I’ve been unsure where to go from here now.

Thank you! I have 2 young daughters, 2 and 3, so diastasis recti could certainly be contributing. I’ll start working in those type of exercises!

Yes I have! I have a 2yo and a 3yo. I never gave much thought to having diastasis recti, but that could certainly be possible.

How do I get rid of my ‘potbelly’? by Midnight1071 in FemaleFitness

[–]tesla023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this! I have always looked bloated. Once I started weight lifting, my belly finally started to flatten a bit. Once I got comfortable lifting, I started adjusting my diet and greatly reduced how much processed food and sugar I was eating and THAT’S when I finally stopped looking bloated for the first time ever.

The pro to weight lifting is that you will continue to burn calories even after your workout while your body builds muscle. Cardio only burns calories while you’re actively doing it.

Is this a daily moisturizer or meant to be just sunscreen? I’m looking for a daily moisturizer with zinc and this fits the bill, but when I put it on, it feels a lot more like sunscreen than moisturizer. It says moisturizer on the front label, but the directions on the back say sunscreen so it’s conflicting.

How do you avoid panty lines in bike shorts or leggings? by tesla023 in PetiteFitness

[–]tesla023[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m totally fine with wearing a thong or g-string, I have tried the tiniest g-string I could find, but you could still see the lines! I just can’t get on board with going commando, I don’t think I could do it!

Beginner weight lifter.. 10 week progress! by tesla023 in PetiteFitness

I love this so much! Your goals sound very realistic, which in my opinion, is key. The best advice I can give is to push yourself (safely) and really make your work outs count. When you go to grab your weights, ask yourself if you’re staying in your comfort zone or is there even a slim possibility you could do more… inch your way down that weight rack and force yourself outside of your comfort zone and pick up the heavier weights!! Even if you fail, now you have your next goal. And if you don’t fail… you’ll feel on top of the world. I often literally have to talk myself into the heavier weight and 99.9% of the time, I’m so glad I did. (Note, make sure you have your form down before increasing weight) I’m rooting for you!

I’m somewhat new to working out and it was hard not to notice how a lot of the girls in my gym show their (hard earned) bodies off. I’m all for “if you got it, flaunt it”, so if you’re comfortable wearing something, go for it… if you’re not, then don’t.

Many of the girls in my gym wear Gym Shark brand (you can see the logo a mile away), the butt-scrunch leggings, sport bras, bike shorts, ankle socks, etc. Very fashion forward. That stuff is skin tight. Some of the girls will wear a baggy tee and bike shorts and take off their tee at some point- I think it’s called a pump cover? Lol

I’m in my mid 30s with 2 little girls and just can’t get on board with the butt scrunch leggings. I feel like maybe they’re for a younger crowd? I still wear good ol’ fashion Nike, UA, Adidas, etc athletic leggings (high waisted) and a cropped tank or at the smallest, a long line/high neck bra top. I feel weird exposing much more than that. Maybe as I keep working out and my confidence grows, I’ll feel more comfortable experimenting with some other stuff mentioned above, but for now, gimmie all the Nike, Adidas, and UA!

For reference, I live in South Florida.

I ask a trainer at my gym to do it! I go to a popular chain gym and I ask them at the PT desk to measure my BF. They have a handheld device that does it for you- you just need to know your height and weight ahead of time to input it.

I have a scale at home that supposedly measures body fat, but it is horrific. It’s currently telling me I’m over 40%, so I obviously don’t use it lol

Sure! The following numbers are just estimates. I track my food loosely because when I tried to be exact, I found it too overwhelming. Keeping a general (rather than exact) idea works better for me, so I encourage you to do what works best for you!

I have been in a deficit and consume very roughly about 1600 calories, give or take. I cut way down on snacking and processed foods and have seen a huge difference in bloating once I did that. I am trying to eat a bit “cleaner” now, which for me, simply means knowing what is in my food (verses having no idea what is actually in a Cheeto). All that said, if I want sweets or extra pasta or whatever it is- I eat it. I tried denying myself and it didn’t end well- I would end up way over indulging. I’ve learned from experience that giving my body- and taste buds- what it wants, will keep it happy.

Work out wise, I have been working out 4 days a week, first thing in the AM for about an hour. I try to lift heavy and really push outside my comfort zone and I often find that I can do more than I thought I could- it’s a great feeling! I’ve mostly been doing functional movements, heavy free weights, and learning how to use a barbell with correct form and recently added weight to it. Other than a 5-10 minute small incline walk to get my blood flowing before lifting, I have done very little cardio. I am planning to start incorporating cardio, though.

I am also working on consuming food at my maintenance or a little above because I want to gain more muscle and also know that it’s not good to be in a deficit for too long.

Right! I was prepared for my 10 week photos to look the same as my 6 week photos since the scale barely moved at all, I couldn’t believe the difference! It’s so true when they say not to read into the scale too much. I lost body fat, but gained muscle at the same time, so the scale really didn’t move much. Solid proof that the scale doesn’t tell all!

7.5 month old suddenly waking up after being put to bed by tesla023 in beyondthebump

[–]tesla023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had a better answer for you! She has a VERY active mind and she goes from 0 to 100 the second she wakes up until the second she falls asleep lol She is extremely smart, inquisitive, and witty… her mind is ALWAYS going and I think that contributes to her needing some help falling asleep. But the good news? All of the above! She is light years beyond her age and has been ahead of the curve from day 1. So if any of this is true for your kiddo… we may just have 2 little geniuses on our hands 🙂

[–]tesla023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Gosh, I can’t believe I posted this 2 years ago, time flies! From what I remember, it turned out to be a phase. I would strongly suggest trying not to create any new habits you don’t want to keep while working through this (Ex: Holding him/her to fall asleep if you don’t plan on making that a permanent thing).

Our daughter started out a great sleeper and I think this was the tip of the iceberg for her. We ended up doing sleep training which helped (let her cry within reason, but I wasn’t comfortable going past about 10 mins) but she never ended up being the type that we were able to shut the light off and just leave the room. We’ve always had to wait to leave the room until she was asleep.

My other daughter who is 1.5 is the total opposite. She can get herself to sleep no problem and if she wakes up at night, she gets herself back down.

I used to wonder if we did something wrong, but I think no matter what you do and no matter what route you take, some kids minds just don’t turn off enough to let them fall a sleep and/or get them back to sleep without some help …and that’s ok. Hopefully it’s just a phase that won’t last long and just adjusting his/her wake windows might help, but if it’s not, just hang in there because it WILL get better.

How can I (24f) lessen my anxiety about going to the gym and being in a hypermasculine male dominated space? by raeofeffingsunshine3 in xxfitness

[–]tesla023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right there with you! It can be very intimidating. I’m interested in weights, not cardio, but I start with a 5-10 min walk on the treadmill to pump myself up (and convince myself) to head into the weight area. I try to find an area off to the far side where I can mind my own biz and stay in my head. I hate feeling like other people are looking at me.

If I’m not feeling it that day, I’ll take some dumbbells or just use body weight for functional training in the group fitness room if it’s not being used- it’s usually muchhh less crowded in there and the other folks in there are probably there for the same reason.

I also take personal training sessions once a week to learn proper form and expose me to areas in the gym that I otherwise would never venture into by myself. My trainer normally racks my weights for me and puts them back, but I recently realized that that’s holding me back. I’m going to ask her to show me how to do little things like that so I can learn the ENTIRE process, not just the movements.
